- WhY aRe ThEy FlYiNg TyPe?? It seems obvious, it's a bird. Of course it's flying. We're done. Simple. BUT! Some of them are somewhat interesting. So today lets QUICKLY go over the reasoning behind the flying type Pokemon being flying type.
And note, even if we don't go into detail with some of them, they are flying because they fly (they we're covered in the song.) The rest of their origins are explained in the video with their primary type.

Skarmory is actually based on the Stymphalian birds of Greek mythology. Birds roughly the size of pigeons with metal beaks, talons, and feathers.

7:40 another explanation for Hawlucha’s flying typing is that it’s based off of a luchadore (Mexican wrestler) and luchadores are famous for an in ring style that has a heavy emphasis on aerial maneuvers
Sigilyph is classified as the "Avianoid" pokemon, implying that it LOOKS like a bird, but isn't one. I personally like to think that it can't naturally fly, but levitates with psionic powers, as it never flaps its wings in it's model.
Actualy Hoppip, Skiplom and Jumpluff have a nice reason to be flying: They are based on dandelions, which are famous for having those seeds that get carried by the lightest breeze, as we see with Jumpluff being the typical white, fluffy dandelion.
His point was that those Pokemon don't actually fly but are just carries by the wind.
But yeah in the same way I could say that Driftblim should not be Flying too because it doesn't actually fly.

Lugia is the LUN-Class Ekranoplan, Soviet Union in 1985. It was a plane that flew about 5-10 feet off the ocean surface, had a white and blue color scheme, and contained devastating power (six sub-atomic missiles) in its unassuming back plates. The thing was a BEASTLY military vehicle, but barely anyone remembers it was a thing.
Question is, does Lugia being a Russian jet aircraft make Ho-oh some sort of American embodiment, and that's why the two could never cross paths directly?

It baffles me that people complain about Fire/Fighting and occasionally Grass/Ghost types. But nobody says a damn thing wiith 29 different Normal/Flying types (we seriously need more pure flying types).
Alright so I have heard people get mad about so many fire/fighting starters but I've never heard anyone get mad at ghost/grass typing

@Gabriel Mota Being a Starter isn't a good excuse since we were practically forced to using a Flying type in every Generation except for Gen 6 and 7.
Everyone seems to forget all the time why Lugia SHOULDN'T be Water-type. In the Pokédex it states that it only lives under water because a flap of its wings can create storms and to ensure the safety of others, it chooses to live under water so that won't happen. Lugia isn't born having connections to water in any way, it just later chose to live under water.
Ryojin Hellgar yeah and its affiliation with the wind is tronger than the one with the water. Lugia can control winds and storms and this cause ocean storms, not the control of the water itself. So lugia hasn't a real control of water. That's because I'll call it the storm pokemon instead the ""diving pokemon""
I never catch Lugias, so I never see the Pokedex entries. And I don't think they can be caught in most of the games either, so I'd have to spend forever trading one up or for one.
Yeah, I guess Lugia learning Hydro Pump at the same level Ho-oh learns Fire Blast is just a coincidence. Stfu. Even the GF staff confirmed they considered Water as one of its types, they just went with Psychic because of the "Psychic = Powerful/Legendary" mindset from earlier gens which sounded more impressive for the movie (because if you didn't know, Lugia was created specifically for the movie, not with Gold/Silver in mind).
Temp23 I think that Lugia has a really close resemblance to the moon (and ho-oh with the sun). It's a silver color, associated with the moon. The moon also control tides and is associated with water like Lugia, also the moon is a celestial thing, and we know that every thing related to the space is psychic type (cosmog line, solrock and lunatone, starmie, elgyem and so on). So I think that's a really interesting fact. Lugia=Moon=Psychic
Doesn’t it’s lore state that it’s the representation of the rain that put out the fire at Tin/Burned Tower? Also, it’s called the guardian of the seas, while Ho-oh is the guardian of the skies. It has been portrayed as water type in the card game, and it’s origins are based in the Shinto dragon (yang/male/water) while Ho-oh is the Shinto Phoenix (yin/female/fire). All in all, I think it’s pretty clear they just changed him to a water type to avoid being unbalanced with Ho-oh.

You are right. I AM ACTUALLY STRONGER THAN GYARADOS. By 5 base points. Gyarados has the base stats of 540, as well as Kingdra and Blissey. I have 545. And Gyarados has more wasted points on his useless SpAtk, wheras I have only 50 Atk and spread my points better, as well as having a broken ability, a good typing and a much bigger movepool than Gyarados.

Are not. Reptiles are divided in two groups: Lepidosaurs, which includes lizards (including Mosasaurs), snakes (who are lizards), and possibly Plesiosaurs, and Archosaurs, which includes Crocodiles, Pterosaurs and Dinosaurs (including there birds).
Honestly, that bird song was one of my favorite things in this series :D I would be completely okay with a full video of going through all the birds (and other flying things) in this song form.

Yep, left over beta data. I wish they kept the bird type since bird Pokemon are unique enough and not all bird Pokemon fly. If both Grass and Bug can exist, there is no reason Bird and Flying cant exist.
