Are you someone who doesn't feel called to adopt or foster, but you still want to help those who do? Foster and adoptive families know how important support from family and friends is, especially in the first few weeks or months of a new placement when everyone is adjusting to a new normal. We had an amazing community around us that helped us so much in our adoption journey. It would have been so much harder to get through that first year of our daughter's placement without their love and support. Today I'm sharing some practical ways you can help adoptive/foster families adjust and feel supported during their foster/adoption journey!

Great video! Thank you for helping me learning how to support my friends. Here's my notes.
    Summary:
Baby Shower - ask what they would like/need stuff, experiences, etc.
Boundaries - ask family about boundaries/specific needs
Education - learn about fostering and trauma informed care (book: "The Connected Child")
Meal Train - family and friends sign up to bring meals ask if and how they would like it dropped off/delivered/picked up
Encourage Foster Parents - encourage foster parents to practice regular self care, take a a coffee break, 10 minute meditation, bath
Offer to babysit if appropriate - with willingness to get finger printed, background checked, etc.
Listen - listen to foster parents listen for boundaries, listen to venting, listen to feedback

Such a great video. We are looking into adoption so I’ve been watching all your videos. Our good friends adopted and we offered once a month or every other month to babysit. It meant the world to the couple as they could have a date night. Sometimes they said they would just go out get food then take a nap in the car.

That is so great that you were able to support them in that way! 🥰 and how cool that you are now considering adoption!
