I bought the Interstellar Pilot Day Date two years ago and just picked up this Murph watch to complete the collection. My initial reaction is: beautiful, attractive watch. Two downsides to this watch I noticed immediately. There is not ARC on it and I just don't understand why they didn't, esp. at this price point. Second is the stiff band - not so much the 42mm case size. I think this would feel better on the wrist if Hamilton packaged this with a softer band. I'm going to swap it out for a NATO strap. For those dads out there - FYI - my youngest is off to college in the fall. she's my film enthusiast, and she is going to get this watch on dorm move in day. we will be a long ways apart, so with these Hamilton watches she'll know we will always be connected through time and space. Gotta thank Nolan for this one.
Way late, but in case you haven't already purchased, all signs point to Hamilton releasing a smaller version of this watch sometime in the next few days. They have a countdown on their website titled "Something SMALL is coming" and have hinted strongly it is related to this model.
After years of dreaming about it, I finally bought one today! Interstellar is my all-time favorite movie, and it feels special to own this watch. While it's quite a substantial watch, it's very light and slim. 38mm would probably fit a bit better on my wrist, but 42 is the OG - it's the watch they used in the movie and EUREKA is something special that 38mm doesn't have.
Finally get a review of a medium sized watch for my 7.5 inch wrist and it's mostly warnings about how giant it is. I wonder what the average wrist size is, because it seems like every reviewer in the world has 6.5 in wrists. I can't shop for watches without being told how gigantic it is. Tried this on in person and it's perfectly balanced in every way.
I have the same "problem" but I definitly consider it an advantage, as the larger watches are definitly taking a dump on the second hand market, wich means good deals for us, larger wristed gentlemans.
Not sure why reviewers use wrist size. That's like measuring feet with literal feet. Some have round wrists, some have flat wrists. I have a very flat wrist despite being short - makes it easy to wear large lug to lug watches ;)
Maybe you have larger than average wrists? Given that over half the comments here seem to be complaints about the size, I don't think his criticisms are unwarranted. Anyway, I'd say larger wrists are a good thing since you have greater choice in which watches you can wear without looking ridiculous.
@@ghostxfairy it goes the other way for me. Nearly every watch is 38mm which is way too small. Cant count how many times I've had my heart broken by a 38mm.
42mm is undeniably big, but it can still work. The downside of this is the enormous lug to lug - need to have a VERY big wrist to pull this off. I have a couple of larger Seiko’s but the lug to lug makes them wearable. Drop the lug to lug to under the magic 50mm and it would undoubtedly fit more people - mind a 40 to 41mm diameter would also be better...but not absolutely needed.
As much as people mention how big the watch is the biggest problem I have with ownership of this watch is it's lack of AR coating, it's incredibly reflective in every environment you're in. I've had issues seeing the time in my living room at night. No idea why Hamilton didn't coat it with it's price point. Size is fine for anyone with a wrist bigger than 6 - 3/4. It really is beautiful. In 2022 you can find this watch for $750-780 easily. I don't regret my purchase at all.
Teddy, I'd like to compliment you for your thorough honesty in these videos. (I mean, makes perfect sense, you don't want someone buying a watch from and and being unhappy). I like the Murph. Too bad about the size. My wrist is about the size of yours. 40mm is my usual max, 42mm is ok if the lugs are not greater than 50mm or so. Seiko divers bend physics and don't count. My largest non-seiko is a 42mm Mont Blanc 1858 chronograph. The lugs are right around 50-51. It's at the very extreme end of what I can wear, and it took a bunch of straps to find one that situates the watch in a way that I don't look like a kid wearing my dad's watch.
Hey Teddy ! I’m your fan but you are missing something important: You mentioned that the hands don’t shine much, but you can charge them under the light of the son, if you light it for 5 minutes it will shine a lot. Note: this is my favorite watch of my collection, I love Hamilton ❤ Greetings!

I think Hamilton really dropped the ball by not using an AR coating on this masterpiece. More often than not I find myself maneuvering my wrist to see the time.
This would be a cool gift for a daughter graduating high school/college. Also - you used ‘catherdral’ as an adjective which is interesting because Nolan/Hans Zimmer used organs for much of the soundtrack to add a sense of spirituality to the movie. I wonder if that detail in this watch was intentional.
I get a security warning when I follow the link in the description. It says the connection isn't secure and that someone is trying to steal my card details?
Is this really 400.00 more watch than a khaki field auto ? I am looking at getting my first Hamilton and am wondering where the extra value is on this one.
I like the size. The problem with many, many "field watches" is that they're to damn small - in the 34mm-36mm range. Even 38mm is too small. I'm glad that Hamilton is diverging from the miniature field watch standard. One could argue that it's an alternative to the Rolex Explorer. I just wish Hamilton would stop plastering KHAKI on everything.
Hello Teddy, do you also have in your web the other Hamilton model in the film Interstellar, the Khaki Pilot Day Date? I was not able to find it. Thank you!
I'm sure I'm not the only one who has looked at this piece and thought it's beautiful. And then check out the dimensions and been disappointed. If only it was 40 x 47mm.
Just curious, I have the Khaki Mechanical that fully wound up there is a noticeable tension. With the Murph’s auto movement does it have similar full wound up tension?
Hi Teddy, I discovered your channel last fall after I got re-introduced to mechanical watches. I have an odd question, how much is too much to pay for a watch running a ETA 28XX or Seiko NHXX/4RXX movements? With luxury brands, you tend to get an in house movement but there are watches that range from $100 to $2000 that use the work horse ETA/Sellita, Miyota, or Seiko 7SXX/4RXX movements. I guess my real question is, where is the REAL value in a watch... the movement or the fit/finish? I have nothing against any of these movements, my watch box is full of Bambinos, Seiko 5s, Islanders, a couple of ETAs and a few Soviet era Vostoks. Thanks for the great content, and for keeping me company during this pandemic. Take care and stay safe. Ahson

Teddy, just bought the pilot day date as a splurge. Love it. Next up will be the 42mm Murphy. Just gotta convince the wife. Lol
That lug to lug is so absurd, considering that spring bars are allocated that close to the case.
May be another option for a every day watch for medium size wrist
If the watch was smaller, I'd buy it despite the high price for a Hamilton Khaki Field.
My big wrist needs at least 41mm , so I'm happy with the Murph being 42mm.
Teddy, do you think that Hamilton will release different sizes of the Murph in the near future?
I've been looking at the murph but the price? Nearly double a karki king!! with not anything extra?
I get a security warning when I follow the link in the description. It says the connection isn't secure and that someone is trying to steal my card details?
The 38mm version is here!!!
on 38 - 39mm, this is sharp yet sweet 😊
Hamilton, please fix two things:
. Lug to lug
. WR (install screw down crown)
I was really looking at this to be my first watch but my wrist is 6.7". Could I get away with it or look for something smaller?
Such a sharp looking watch. Unfortunately too big for my scrawny 6.5 wrist and girly hands. Would be great on the right wrist.
Hamilton has field watches in every size. I think they even have some 44mm beasts.
I like what Tudor is doing. They have just about every single size possible. I wish more companies would do this
@Teddy Baldassarre Teddy is there a genuine OEM deployment clasp that could be installed here?
not to mention this watch was HUGE in the actual plot of the movie.
Hi Teddy, do you carry metal bracelets with curved links compatible with the Hamilton watches?
Can i change the strap to stainless folding?
Isn't this a Type-A flieger and the other Interstellar watch a Type-B flieger? If so, 42mm makes sense, but a 39-40mm would fit me pretty well.
Hello Teddy, do you also have in your web the other Hamilton model in the film Interstellar, the Khaki Pilot Day Date? I was not able to find it. Thank you!
A great looking watch. If it was 38mm, I would already own it.
so mine 42 has the swiss made on it?
Dear Teddy,
Kinda off topic but for someone who is also a Nomos fan, why is there no Playlist for it yet on you channel?
Is the Ginger Chewbacca wearing it?
Is this a new version or the one that's been out for 18 months or so?
I'm sure I'm not the only one who has looked at this piece and thought it's beautiful.
And then check out the dimensions and been disappointed. If only it was 40 x 47mm.
Definitely like that hammy. Great size for my wrist but Im not a fan of the price
Just curious, I have the Khaki Mechanical that fully wound up there is a noticeable tension. With the Murph’s auto movement does it have similar full wound up tension?
Simple, good and elegant. I’m getting one.
Excellent design, too big, if it was a 39 i would buy it right away !! great video as always
Hi Teddy,
I discovered your channel last fall after I got re-introduced to mechanical watches.

Teddy now you gotta review the other interstellar watch, the Khaki Pilot Day Date!
