This watch is simply a classic. Beautiful, timeless. The hands are perfect. To those saying it’s too expensive, this watch has a highly accurate, quality Swiss movement, underside AR coating, 100m of water resistance and an antimagnetic Nivachron balance spring. Plus the movie connection. It’s a great overall package.
I know its a bit on the pricey side but such a beautiful classic look. I expect this style willl still look good in years to come even if the back story gets forgotten.
3:25 I can tell you that I fell in love with the looks of this watch before knowing it was featured in the movie! So yes, there is a few of us who fell for it unbiased, haha.
People need not complain about the price. When you buy Hamiltons you know you're getting quality and you're also buying into the wide film heritage they have. Indiana Jones, Men in Black, Oppenheimer, Intersteller ect..... I just bought the 38. Can't wait to enjoy it for the many years ahead.
I picked up my Murph a month or so after release and the shop, here in Canada, had one left with the limited collectors box. It's an impressive thing as far as boxes go 😁made from different colored layers of perspex. It was supposedly co-designed by Nathan Crowley, the production designer for the film. You could probably use it to defend yourself against an intruder as it weighs as much as a brick. I do love the watch. The 80 hour power reserve is handy, it has a vintage aesthetic that I really like and there is a bracelet available from Hamilton that was made for a different Khaki model which uses the same case as the Murph.
I think the design is based on the Tesseract in the movie. My brother lead the VFX team on Interstellar. Monstrous amount of work went into the Tesseract!
Exactly my situation here in Vancouver 🇨🇦. I pre-ordered the watch with the tesseract box as soon as it was announced (I am a HUGE fan of the movie) and own the Coop also. I tried the new 38mm on and it is a stunning watch. I actually prefer the original Murph to the Smurph (I have a 7.5” wrist) and the closer relationship to the film is a must for me.
One story is the watch was that size in the movie to Accommodate it's function as a prop, and that size was carried over to what is now Murph number 0ne! Another is the original case is from A modified Pioneer Model which was not selling!
Awesome looking watch! I know a lot of people think it's too expensive for a simple three handed watch, but there are plenty of simple three handed watches that are way, way more expensive. I bet it will hold its value on the second hand market as well. Imo anything under 1k is considered affordable in the hierarchy of watches, so it's whether the watch speaks to you enough to want to spend that amount of money. Personally I think all of the other 38mm khaki dials look too busy and the lug length is too long. The design of this watch is on point. Apart from the strap, that can get in the bin.
Got mine last week. Hamilton is growing on me. Got my eyes on the jazzmaster performer 38mm next. Also, the shine on the leather strap will slightly go away, so that’s a positive i guess for you and I at least. Nice video!
Yeah I agree if it wasn’t for the movie this piece would not have commanded such a hostile price, I like the watch and still might get one, will see what sort of discounts come off for Christmas
Totally agree about it being a very pretty and classy watch. My only complaints having purchased mine a few months ago is the apparent lack of AR coating and the plasticky feel of the strap. I'd rather not replace the strap unless its with one that looks the same as it is a tribute to the movie.
I snagged one upon launch. Believe me Despite it has the same dimension, same movement as the khaki field auto 38mm, This watch wears and feels different totally. For those who keep comparing this to the normal auto 38mm, please don't and move on and get your khaki field auto 38mm, because you just need a field watch from Hamilton, thats all. You had no idea. This watch is designed for the INTERSTELLAR movie, and improved into 38mm. This watch plays a big role in this movie. This watch cements the movie, not popularised by the movie.
Thank you very much for your recommendation. I have already ordered the watch from F&J and saved almost 190EUR in comparison to the German seller prices. A big thank you again!!! 🤑
People keep comparing it against the khaki at a lower price! I really don’t give a shit about the price difference as I love interstellar and this watch is just stunning! Take my money first class watches 👍
Very nice looking watch, I have an old Khaki Field mechanical (with the ETA mov and no patina lume) that was my father's and i love it, Hamilton designs are timeless! I'd love one of these one day or the Khaki Field automatic if they ever make it in 38mm
1:30 the limited tesseract box was made for the first 2555 murph, this number is the number of days for 7 years on earth that passed by during the 1 hour stay on miller’s planet in the movie.
I did not realize they came out with that one in a 38 mm. Love the watch, However, I consider the Khaki King (On bracelet) To be their best field watch and it’s my personal favorite in my collection(I have at least half a dozen field watches)… it has all the same specifications and could be had for a little over $400 US when on sale.
Hi Gary. Thanks for the review. I have the other Interstellar watch, the ‘Cooper’. I would seriously consider getting this as well to create the pair. Hamilton do some great watches and I’ve loved mine for almost a year. Great design, good build and quality, runs within COSC parameters, and there’s nothing else out there like the Khaki Aviation Pilot Day Date. Negatives, Hamilton just don’t seem to ever use enough lume but it’s common across most of their watches. I’d be interested in you reviewing one of their divers though, maybe the Khaki Navy?
I ordered this watch about 3 days ago … it hasn’t arrived yet, but I already know I’ll wear it on a different strap. I like everything else about it though.
I have the other Interstellar model that Matthew wore in the movie. Hamiltons can grow on you which is why I have bought at least one a year over the past five or six years. Enjoy Christmas come early with this purchase.
7:12 I 100% agree awful strap, I'm not that into wearing a watch just because it was in a hollywood feature, actually in today's climate I would side with Ye and say I would prefer not to, but yeah, love Hamilton and I've got a couple of their watches in my must buy when I can afford to spend that much on a watch and not care list.
I love the Hamilton Murph but prefer the 42mm!!! Honestly love both Hamilton watches from Intersteller there is just something special about them. May pick one up. May actually like the Kaki Aviation one better though.
Beautiful watch and a great size. My Hamilton Khaki Field Automatic 38mm is easily one of my top 3 watches. Incredibly accurate too. Mine is off by only a second or so a day. If you want to attract some new viewers, I´d suggest putting the name and size of the watch in the title. I get the feeling that lots of people are searching for reviews of this watch. Edit: I see now that it is in the video describtion. Maybe that is good enough to show up in the search results.
Hamilton Khaki King is on my wish list with Christmas money this year - I have a specific type in mind so if it isn't available I have backups of other watches on a revised list (Boldr Venture Carbon and Seiko Pressge Cocktail time).
Hamilton make some great watches - well built, decent movements and reasonably priced. I bought my Khaki Mechanical 10 years ago, and it’s built like a tank! Lovely watch.
I have a Jazzmmaster chrono Special Edition for dress, a Navy Pioneer with big sweep hand for sailing, a d a classic KhakiField that I wear mostly. Three Hamiltons. They are all classy and keep good time. They all have faces that you can get the time at a glance. What more are you looking for, no battery, do not fog up- waterproof, rugged,, good looking.
I've just bought the Ironwatch 38mm Murph homage partly because the Hammy was 42mm, mostly because of cost. Interestingly it was stuck in Chinese customs for 10 days because of an "intellectual property rights problem" not sure what that was about, it's nearly here now, all this 38mm Murph talk has me excited.
As said in a previous comment looks good, nicer than the khaki field, dial not as cluttered, but with the same movement, way over priced. Probably why already being discounted?
Great review as always! I absolutely loved the film but I'm afraid I have no interest in the watch. You do have me wanting to watch the film again though. I haven't seen it in awhile now.
I have the Hamilton H7003050, which is the best mechanical timepiece in terms of accuracy I've ever owned (my first ever watch, a Cyma watersport from 1965 being second best and still going strong). I love the Murph's design and the fact that it has the powermatic movement, which is consistently accurate. I'm tempted but can't really afford it - yet!
i have the 42..looks nicer looses its presence in small size and looked tiny on my 7.5 inch wrists. my rolexs are all 40 plus so im used to that size. the Murph is great for a cheap watch i love it
I bought 2 days ago the 42mm, and apparently they had the newer version with a super shiny leather strap.. almost like lacquer shoes.. a bit too posh on a classic case.. I took the last model they still had in a more matter version leather.. also the finishing of the new one looks less than the previous.. and the engraving in the back as well as on the watch ! very strange.. But overall, idd. a very nice finished watch which looks nice from every angle, and I really like the vintage yellow faded luminoscence on the dial as well as the hands.. for the price it's top notch, certainly in the retail shop in Bangkok where I bought it, I got around 30% in total discounted from Central shopping mall.. watches are cheaper in Asia nowadays as in Europe..
Nice piece not my favorite Hamilton but I do see your appreciation of this style in alot of your faves I'm sure you will enjoy for quite some time Thanks for sharing your purchase with us my friend 👍
It’s really really a good looking timepiece. So comfy although I changed my strap since this will be my everyday watch. Is it advisable though to wear this watch during sleep? Thank you
wonder if they finally fixed the ETA2824-2 weakness with the windup mechanism? mine failed and it was an expensive repair... My Hammy is 10 years old.... Cheers
I emailed Hamilton themselves and they said that all of their automatic watches have a saphire caseback. So Im surprised that it didnt work with your tester. Looks like they have some explaining to do!
It's a gorgeous watch, and 38mm is spot on for me. So, I won't be getting the Murph, unless one appears at a massive discount on the used market in a few months maybe.
I appreciate a good Hamilton field watch! But honestly, their regular offerings, at lower price, are more appealing to me. (Never saw the movie, and I'm not sure a movie reference is a selling point for me anyway!)

Really nice. 38mm is always a good choice. Despite everything, I'm a bit disappointed. No more box in the style of the tesseract, no more E-u-r-e-k-a morse code... Unfortunately, the piece has lost this two nice references to the beautiful movie. But of course that is a matter of opinion. Thanks for the video. 👍
I’m just stunned that you’ve been at this game this long and not owned a Hamilton. Shocked. How does that happen? I need details, I thought that this brand and the Seiko skx were jumping off points for almost every collector.
I recently purchased my first Hamilton a Boulton to be exact and I have genuinely got to say that the quality is very good and the leather strap is a standout it's a cracking matt blue and one of the most comfortable leather straps that I have and it really sets off the blue dial perfectly and fantastic value at around £900 I also have a deployment clasp which is extra cost but well worth it and it's the older style of clasp which is the best if you can get one but the newer clasp is not as good it feels flimsy compared to the older one. The watch is manual wind but with the 80 hours power reserve it's not a problem and it keeps the watch under 11mm Hamilton say that it's 11mm but I measure it as 10.7mm, it's just a beautiful watch and very comfortable on the wrist.
I love it, but I'm slightly disappointed that the second hand no longer has the Morse code on it. It isn't quite as special without it. Honestly, that probably won't stop me from buying it eventually! lol
Finally they made the watch in a wearable size. I mean, this was supposed to be a young girl's watch in the movie, one of my favourite movies by the way. The morse code on the second hand was one of the coolest details I've ever seen on a watch and they've done away with it on this version, why? But this watch is a big hit nonetheless!
Its a looker for sure but way to expensive (even with 10% off) and the strap is not nice. Maybe in a decent sale or on the used market it might make a bit more sense, until then not one for my collection

I hope it will because I've invested in one already.
It will because it is a really classical watch. And it will never change because will always be the same as in the movie.

Get the Cooper, I have it and love it.
Such a classic piece. Love the long seconds hand, domed feel of the entire dial and perfect proportioned indices.
The watch in Interstellar never had the morse code dots, so in a way this 38mm version is closer to the movie watch.
Definitely, I also prefer no nonsense to it.
I completely agree

Hello Gary 👋
I just bought the Hamilton Kahki Field Mechanical chronograph it's amazing $886 on sale 👍
Hamilton is one of my dream watches. Those cathedral hands are astounding! The strap looks really cheap though...
I love interstellar and Hamilton so it would be a keeper to me.
Thank you very much for your recommendation. I have already ordered the watch from F&J and saved almost 190EUR in comparison to the German seller prices. A big thank you again!!! 🤑
It's beautiful. I bought a mechanical and every day since then I've had second thoughts about not spending the extra money for the Murph. Nice one 😍
People keep comparing it against the khaki at a lower price! I really don’t give a shit about the price difference as I love interstellar and this watch is just stunning! Take my money first class watches 👍

They do make the Khaki Field auto in 38mm. In fact, it's the most popular size and I just got one. Nice watch!
I love this watch it’s like the perfect every day watch. What is the font of the numerals called it really works well.
Ace show Gary. Great review, and perhaps for me. One more to look further into.
Very solid offering and I really like cathedral hands but I would probably either go with the baby alpinist or an oris pointer date

@jja kiefte steeldive makes one too. The steeldive is closer to the murph but doesn't have the faux patina

Love the movie and the look of the original murph. Do you know of any bracelets what would be compatible with it?
Really like the look on this. Got my eye on a Hamilton khaki field 42mm atm but this really looks good.

What's up with that wall clock, it seems to stop for an extra second at the 60 second mark?
No, if I go Hamilton I much prefer by far the Khaki Pilot Pioneer also in 38mm.
Congrats very nice one! Cheers mate !
1:40. Is the watch possessed?😂
Good review, glad they made a 38mm. Liking the Great Lakes t-shirt! Where did you get it?
Wait a minute, this has a shorter lug2lug than the 38mm Khaki Field?
Was thinking about picking one of these up myself. Question, what kind of strap was that @8:55?

It’s really really a good looking timepiece. So comfy although I changed my strap since this will be my everyday watch. Is it advisable though to wear this watch during sleep? Thank you
Interstellar is an amazing movie. Watch looks awesome
Please can you make a content for 42mm as well
I wonder if and how the bracelet from the Exciton would fit on it ? 👍👍⌚⌚😉😉
wonder if they finally fixed the ETA2824-2 weakness with the windup mechanism? mine failed and it was an expensive repair... My Hammy is 10 years old.... Cheers

So, I won't be getting the Murph, unless one appears at a massive discount on the used market in a few months maybe.
My favorite hamilton is my khaki day date followed by my khaki navy scuba.
Hamilton's are one of my favorites. Beautiful watches!
I appreciate a good Hamilton field watch! But honestly, their regular offerings, at lower price, are more appealing to me. (Never saw the movie, and I'm not sure a movie reference is a selling point for me anyway!)
I have the Khaki Field Automatic 38mm, and it cost me less than half what this Murph costs. Plus, it has a date complication. So, I won't be getting the Murph.

You should watch the movie.
At least 80% of the appeal is having Interstellar as one of your Top 10 favorite films of all time.

Nice looking watch, not sure I would £820 for one.
What are you wearing on your wrist in the beginning of this video ?

Really nice. 38mm is always a good choice. Despite everything, I'm a bit disappointed. No more box in the style of the tesseract, no more E-u-r-e-k-a morse code... Unfortunately, the piece has lost this two nice references to the beautiful movie.

does it hack? I just brought mine for $200 off from trifectawatches. Hoping it fits my wrist well

Do you know if Hamilton offers a Stainless Steel bracelet to fit this watch (or the 42 mm)?
Brent miller time channel says the 38mm is thicker than the 42mm
It's a beauty. Very classy field watch
Hi Garry What happened to your watch brand? You created mate? I do check in time to time. So don't catch all👍🏾
Hamilton may always be a good decision and a good watch with nice quality
I believe Jazzmaster Viewmatic black dial looks way better ❤ but yes, Hamilton gives you a sense of reliability
This would look so good on a Artem sailcloth strap
I've always liked the look of hamilton but have never brought one
Me too...until I handled one. Easy pass
Watch itself looks decent, strap doesn’t help watch at all - tough Xmas for most financially - looks in inferior to Tissot prx
I love that watch but for that price sell it and pick up a Khaki pilot day date (Interstellar) and a Jazzmaster Thinline auto. You’ll be happy, trust.
Hi, really beautiful watch, really interested in this watch. One question. Does it support manual wind?
Yes it does
Ich kann mich nicht entscheiden zwischen der normalen 38mm und der Murph 38mm. Finde beide genial.
Love Hamilton watches!
Keep it!
that is a nice watch ,hamilton field = great design
I love it, but I'm slightly disappointed that the second hand no longer has the Morse code on it. It isn't quite as special without it. Honestly, that probably won't stop me from buying it eventually! lol
no morse code is more movie-accurate.
I wish it had the enbossed shape of the 43mm's bracelet
xwind rose gold , frogman 1000m titanium red. best hamilton watches
It is a beauty ❤
Yeah hammilton go!!
Its a looker for sure but way to expensive (even with 10% off) and the strap is not nice. Maybe in a decent sale or on the used market it might make a bit more sense, until then not one for my collection
