I've had my Hamilton "Murph" for about a year now and enjoy it very much. I purchased for US$750 like Richard and probably wouldn't pay any more than that at this point. It is a big watch, but it works well on my 7.75 inch wrist. The leather strap is fine, but I swapped it out for a black and tan Nato strap and it looks great. I know it's a gimmick, but I'm a sucker for the morse code on the seconds hand. It's like a little secret that only watch geeks will know. 😀
Owned my Murph for about 3 months. I am still obsessed with it, the novelty has yet to wear off. It is an easy reader and and I find myself entranced at times just staring down and watching the seconds sweep across the dial. The Arabics are unique and elegant. The only problem I have is the lack of the anti reflective coating, this thing almost doubles as a mirror at times. Also I have a 7inch wrist, if you have anything smaller than a 7in wrist you should instead get the khaki king auto
Is yours loud? I’ve had the Murph for less than a week and I’m absolutely obsessed with it, but I’ve noticed the thing is damn loud! I can hear it over the TV sometimes
That's the exact reason I didn't buy one. Love the watch, I'm a big sci-fi fan and theoretical physics enthusiast but the lug to lug is 2mm too big for my wrist.
I only started 1 year ago collecting cheap watches to find my style and preferences to in the future buy some more expensive watches. When JOMW posted the original review of the Cooper watch, it was the first time my girlfriend got really excited for a watch. Interstellar was one of the first movies we saw together when we started dating and she really really likes how the watch looks. The size was way too big for my skinny wrists, but when I found out there was a smaller version, my plan was to get it as my wedding watch. And then they discontinued the small version, it's just impossible to get. I have called every Hamilton distributor in a 100km radius, I still check ebay and Google weekly to find somebody that wants to sell it (for a realistic price), but at this point I think I will never find it.
Have you tried the regular cooper on? 42mm diameter is quite sizable but 48mm lug to lug is not that bad. I don't know your wrist size but I think most guys could pull it off.
Funny. I'm relatively new to watch collecting and discovered the cathedral hour hand earlier this year, on this Hamilton Murph, and decided I needed something in the collection with that handset. Anyway it was quite pricey at the time and I wasn't keen on the 6 and 9 number style either. I then discovered the Alpinist watches and settled on the black dial with shark tooth indices SPB117J1. That Hamilton Murph is still a special watch though. I partly blame it for my current addiction.
That is stunning and I have the same complaint with mine, no ar. Not sure why a company can put decent ar on a watch under £100 but Hamilton can't manage it on a watch at nearly a grand. Still love their watches though.
Imagine what a homerun this would be in 39 mm and with decent AR coating... Come on, Hamilton! Do we have to start a petition for them to put AR on their watches? At any rate, I like many of their designs but will never own one until they finally sort out the crystal issue.
@@dschaen81 I got the Pilot Pioneer 38mm and was very pleased that they managed to get it right and give it double AR coating.(Also dropped from it's max RRP by 30% here in the UK on a sale which helped!)
I adore the movie and therefore just had to buy both the Coop and the Murph, the Murph on pre-release in the limited edition Tesseract box. I love these watches!
Despite the lowbeat movement, like the Murph as a daily driver, grabbed another Murph when one turned up heavily discounted to keep one mint. One has the unique LE box. The daily driver now has some Wabi after a year of good use, still looks ok on a fabulous distressed leather grey/brown strap, a Hadley-Roma 854, the most supple, thick, sublime $30 strap. Get one. Have 2 different Coopers too, standard and tan lume version.
I loved the film, so I had to get the watch and love it. Even though the lugs are long. I managed to get one of the early ones that had the limited production acrylic tesseract box, which was a nice touch, for a film fan.
That’s a good looking watch. I wish Tissot had a no date dial like that. Give it different hands and maybe 40mm (but they are just quibbles) would differentiate it enough considering Hamilton are not as readily available in Australia as Tissot.
When i bought this watch i struggled to fall in love with it. I just couldn't click with it. I had it for about a month before i decided to put it on Ebay, it wasn't until i started taking pictures close up, from different angles, with the box and certificate did i actually start to feel a connection. I had it on Ebay for about 10 minets before i cancelled to lisiting and put it back on my wrist. 4 months later and i'm in love with it. I can't wait to set it's time and wind it back up when i treat myself to wear it on my days off work. I also take it on holidays and day trips so it has some great memories linked with it now.
I think it's great that they released this watch, and the size is true to the one in the movie. 52mm is right on the edge of my max lug-to-lug on my 7.25" wrist, but I could wear it. There are clearly enough people in the world to pull that size watch off, but I can understand why some people were hoping it would be smaller. Maybe in the future they will consider releasing a small Murph at 38 or 39mm. I'm sure it would get some love. As for me, I am hoping my Cooper I ordered shows up tomorrow. That one is definitely my style, and I've had my eye on it since even before your review last year. I'm excited, as the only other watch I've bought in 2021 was my "Jellyfish" CasiOak G-Shock.
Its beatiful, love it, Ive been wearing mine for more than a week and it has only gained about a second - I have never had a automatic this precise! Dont know if Im just lucky or if the H-10 is just a very accurate movement…
The 'Legendary' (?) Hamilton Murph. If this watch is legendary then it doesn't take much to gain that status these days. A handful of years and a product placement deal is all you need.
I picked one up in the UK second hand in perfect condition for £450 which i thought was a bargain. Its an amazing watch and my eldest son has already claimed it as his inheritance when i pop my clogs
It's lovely..... great film, great piece, and overly expensive as a result! 🤔 I just realised how similar San Martin's latest steel pilot (sn034) is! It has a modest Miyota 8215 but it's about £120... I'm getting in early and naming it the 'San Murph' ..... 😎
It's a beautiful watch and I love the nerdy morse code dots on the second hand. I wonder why Hamilton insists on this long lug to lug distance, given that this is a watch that was worn on a girl's wrist in the movie.
I own this watch. The Murph is my favorite. I love the movie interstellar and I knew I have to have it when they released it. This watch is always in my daily rotation next to my Orient Kano with the red bezel which is orders of magnitude more beautiful than a Tudor in my eyes. I just buy what I love and don’t care what people think about it.
A good review Jodi. I think Hamilton designed this watch to appear to be an old watch and I think they did a pretty good job. The faux lume as you say is just about right. Having a matt finish on the hands also makes sense as it gives a slight oxidised appearance. Adding AR would have certainly helped readability but would have been at odds with an old watch that could really pass off as an old watch when new. Apologies if this is confusing. The long lug to lug is mitigated somewhat by the down sweep angle. Prospective buyers should if possible try one on and not just go by the measurements. You probably guessed I have this watch and am pretty happy with it. It's a watch that you could put in an old shed and someone who finds it would have difficulty getting any idea of how old it is. For sure I'd doubt they would be able to accept it was new. Anyway a great unboxing. All the best.
Very nice watch and a perfect birthday present, i got the Cooper for my birthday from my bonus kids Fell in love with it after you're review of it and i told everybody about it so much Was speechless when they gave it
I have the Field Watch is identical to that more or less. Wears very well under my layered sleeve clothes in winter the longish ness is not so bothersome as if it was a thicker piece. So I can slide my wrist thru my hoodies and coats no hang ups that is a big advantage over my thicker automatics... I dont mind hand wind for that reason although without day date on them so they are easy to set I digress. Love Hamiltons great value and they take a beating I do outside work and no issues with time keeping. Small wrist most of my watches look big so with this one.
The largest ladies' watch ever built? ;) I loved that thing when I first watched the movie .... until I saw it in real life, years later. From then on, it reminded me more of the Rolex from "Top Secret!".
This one was near the top of my list this past year… Unfortunately I gave in to too many micro brands… It’s now top of the list for next year…! Thanks Jody…!
Woo-boo, the 38mm is out now with a lug to lug of about 44 I think. It doesn’t have the morse code on the second hand, but I don’t care about that. Any chance of a review Jody?
It's a flieger so it being big isn't really an issue. The fauxtina is well executed as well and the numerals and cathedrals are very mid century, that straps a bit meh tho, but this is a watch I've not noticed before and now it's snapping at Stowas heel on my "list".....less than a PRX at my AD's atm, very tempting. Are you looking at the new Navy soon,? they've re vamped that rather lacklustre (100m WR, aluminum bezel) model as well. Meanwhile the old ones are being offered cheap.
I don’t know if anyone else pointed it out but Coop doesn’t communicate through the seconds hand using morse code but binary. He uses morse code to send himself the coordinates that would tale him to the NASA hideout. However he tries to send her the data through morse code but it’s too lengthy and Cooper thinks of binary, therefore TARS ends up sending it through binary code. Most likely my favorite movie of all times. Specially now that I have a daughter.
I tried on the Murph in a shop 2 years ago. And gave it back to the seller. The lug to lug size is just way too much. I was also disappointed that a watch of this price does not have any AR coating.
I'm waiting for hamilton to move to AR coated crystal before I buy! I also would pay more if they dropped the hamilton field mechanical with raised indices or a textured dial! Hamilton should continue to offer the same field watch but also a more intricate or "2022" version
The size of the watch is fine. 42mm diameter is perfect and 52mm lug to lug works well on any wrist at least 7" in size. I have a 7.5" wrist and wear watches with 54mm lug to lug lengths with no issues. The lack of AR coating is a pain but you get used to it.
The Murph uses the same 42mm x 52mm case as the Hamilton Khaki 42mm. The dial is what makes this watch desirable. It’s a shame this one was not made in 38mm! It would be in my collection already.
A truly stunning watch; The dial, hands, case and other details looks really great. But a 42mm case and 52mm L2L.. Way too big for this kind of design IMO.
@@williamsomersetVII no, I’m hung up on men with girly wrists constantly bemoaning any watch over 40mm! If you think a 42mm watch is too big, go and shop in the ladies section; and leave watches like this (and bigger) to the real men!
@@neli5p Nope, a 42-43mm diver's watch is totally fine as long as the L2L size is not ridiculous, like i.e. Seiko famously does it. What you don't get that's it's all about proportions, with other type of watches. "I'm hung up with men with girly wrists.." So sorry for you, if that bugs you. But it has nothing to do with "girly wrists" but with proportions and aestetics on various type of watch models.
@@3rdstone1 that’s your opinion. Do you actually use a divers watch to dive like I do? I doubt it. I’m also afraid to say it has everything to do with ‘girly wrists’ …. If your wrist can’t handle a 42mm watch (even my girlfriend wears a 40mm!) then stop looking at this sort of watch … you might be best with a ladies Casio or a swatch.
Congratulations Richard! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do mine. I picked mine up shortly after it was released from a Canadian AD on Chrono24. It included the limited edition packaging. The Tesseract Box really is a thing of beauty as far as watch boxes go 😁 Hamilton makes a bracelet for another 41mm Khaki model that fits the Murph as well if you're into bracelets.
This was the first and only swiss watch I have ever owned. It's my first automatic for that matter. It's kind of my one and only. I have had it for about a month now and I'm already looking for my next. Thinking Intramatic. The loom is the only letdown for me.
Great looking piece reminds me of the military era style, esp like the morse code on the sec hand esp the fact its not in your face. This would of been ideal if slightly smaller
As a father of two daughters, I found this movie absolutely emotionally devastating. I’ve watched it twice and experienced those emotions both times. It’s a great movie but I’ll never watch it again. I have the Interstellar watch (Coop).
Beautiful watch and a long time waiting to see it on the channel. Long lug to lug, but not much difference to the khaki 42mm. If i can find this at the right price it would be a great addition to my collection.
If I had drawn a watch as a child it would have had guns, a hot girl, Speed Racer, a giant monster, a hot rod and probably a rocket powered sledge hammer. Not sure you'd be able to tell the time though. And of course, only Invicta would have made it.
Superb film, one of all time favourites. Great looking watch, but usual Hamilton issues of no AR and massive long lugs. I sold my Khaki King for the same two niggles.
8.5 inch wrist here...it's the perfect size for me. 38mm looks almost toyish on my wrists, even my Oris pointer date and pilots look small and they generally wear bigger than their size. At last, a classy watch that's proportional for larger wrists that doesn't cost the world. The lack of AR is put simply, ridiculous. Looking at both Oris and Hamilton here, this is a very basic requirement and cheap to apply, so why no AR coatings?
If they aren't including a steel strap at that price they'd at least have to have quick release spring bars, an absolutely gorgeous watch all around tho, i really love the simplicity
At this point, I think Hamilton prides itself on unnecessarily long lug-to-lug lengths relative to case size. I mean, if Seiko can fix this problem on nearly all their watches (skx007, 42x46mm, anyone?), surely Hamilton can do it. I tried the 38mm Field Mechanical, but with 48mm lugs, the gaps between the case and supplied canvas strap just look bad. If I do someday consider Hamilton again, I’ll have to upgrade to the Field Automatic with bracelet.
LOVE the look and story. I would have bought it without seeing it in person. I did wait and tried it on, just wasn’t for me. Glad I waited. Great video!!!
Easily one of the nicest movie tie-in watches I've seen. The lack of AR is kind of a shock. I like the overall size but the lug-to-lug tells me 'no'. I have a similarly sized Alpina that unfortunately hangs over my wrist at both ends. Not annoying enough to make me get rid of it as it was one of the first 'nice' watches I ever bought. Definitely enough to dissuade me from buying a similarly L-O-N-G watch.
7:36 I (regrettably) am yet to see Interstellar, so I spent a good 30 seconds sticking my fingers in my ears and trying to drown out any spoilers with a repeating "blah blah blahhh" noise.... until I realised that I could just hit the 'mute' button! 😂
Great review. I have the "Murph" and, now that I've seen your/Richard's unboxing, I just want to go and slap it on my wrist. Thanks for sharing and happy to see you have such dedicated fans! I would have torn the box open myself 😉👍🏼
Hamilton's and pilot watches are pretty neat, very legible. Also noticed they seem quite big lug to lug. Imagine I'll get one one day 😜. Can't really beat IWC.. the flat glass and anti reflective coating is amazing.
As much as I like Interstellar, I can't justify paying what to me seems like a $400 USD premium over a watch like their Also, in their description of the watch, Hamilton state that the watch was worn by Murph, played by Jessica Chastain. Well not to me. Murph will always be Mackenzie Foy. The scene where Coop leaves is the emotional core of the movie.
Wow this is totally coincidental I was just researching picking one of these up. I thought it was showing in my feed due to Googling turns out the video was just uploaded. I think this is one of the better looking Khakis fields and also a bit unique instead of typical field watch look. Kinda dressy for a field watch. Hmmm that long lug to lug is something I hadn't and that lack of AR is extremely obvious I wonder how bad it is in person.
Japanese solar quartz watches always is my idea of watches, but I started looks forward to try a mechanic watch in future, and I don't mind if the accurate of this Hamilton fell in +/_5sec a day.
Fwar that's a bit of me that ! Nice big button ! I've considered getting a ventura but it was a bit too small then I've looked at the Elvis 80 which is bigger but 600 quid more ! So now I've seen this and I'm thinking hmmm I like a bit of vintage military.. 🤔
A beautiful looking watch but at 42mm I think it's just too large for this very classical looking design. I think 38mm would have been a better size and opened it up as a unisex option for women who would also be interested in this piece after watching the film.
I put a black croc leather strap with white stitching on my black dial baby Alpinist, and it looks very similar to the Murph and being 38mm it's the size the Hamilton should have been
I have tried this watch and even though it should work for my wrist it doesn’t. That hands are too weird and the crown sticks out like a Vostok crown. I really wanted to like this watch but I couldn’t. And you are right, the MSRP is too high. This is a 600-700 dollar watch at best.
While we're at it, Hamilton's biggest movie-related watch crime was to not make the sweet-ass ani-digis from Tenet. Instead, they made a way-too-large automatic that didn't contain the digital feature that made their movie watch the actual movie watch.
I've had my Hamilton "Murph" for about a year now and enjoy it very much. I purchased for US$750 like Richard and probably wouldn't pay any more than that at this point. I thought the same. Swatch group haven’t got the memo saying people don’t want ever increasing sizes of watches
Exactly. This would have been an instant classic and highly desirable at 38mm. Instead they have had overstock since launch.
I think the kahki at 38 is a perfect size, if they matched the styling it would be amazing

CONGRATS Richard and thanks for the review Jody.
Beautiful looking watch but just too big. Would look far better at 39mm.
congratulations to the owner, the hands and lume highlight the simplicity and beauty of the dial, best regards. 👍🏼
What a beauty of watch. So clean...so classic. Great review, Jody
It’s fine … you just have girly wrists!
@@neli5p A quick perusal of your profile shows you are clearly hung up on this “woman’s watch” size issue
Absolutely love that nerdy detail on the second hand! 🤩 Thanks for the review Jody!
That is easily my favourite Hamilton.
Lovely little watch, looks much more wearable than its film counterpart
One of the greatest movies and one of the greatest watches.
Beautiful watch and a long time waiting to see it on the channel. Long lug to lug, but not much difference to the khaki 42mm. If i can find this at the right price it would be a great addition to my collection.
Soooooo beautiful. If it only was a bit smaller + some anti reflective.
I really like the Murph seperate from the movie. Honestly the newer 38mm on the bracelet is a serious Explorer alternative.
San Martin has a new release of a very similar watch but in 37mm. Will You be getting it for a review?
If I had drawn a watch as a child it would have had guns, a hot girl, Speed Racer, a giant monster, a hot rod and probably a rocket powered sledge hammer. Not sure you'd be able to tell the time though. And of course, only Invicta would have made it.
Lovely review sir. I done a quick unboxing too. LOVE this watch but the lack of AR treatment destroys the visuals 😩
I thought the Murph came in a special addition box with stripes to represent the film window dust scene.
And... another late bedtime... o well its only 2am here I can still 4hrs sleep
I reckon quite a few people watch me on mute mate! 😂
@@JustOneMoreWatch it did rather improve the experience, as a whole 😉
Great review. I have the "Murph" and, now that I've seen your/Richard's unboxing, I just want to go and slap it on my wrist.
Thanks for sharing and happy to see you have such dedicated fans! I would have torn the box open myself 😉👍🏼
Could you feature more angular watches i don't really know what's out there but i am interested in getting a different looking watch
If you can't find a mirror near by just look at your Hamilton watch. That crystal reflects everything!
The size is fine for me, I just miss a date function
Hamilton's and pilot watches are pretty neat, very legible. Also noticed they seem quite big lug to lug. Imagine I'll get one one day 😜. Can't really beat IWC.. the flat glass and anti reflective coating is amazing.
As much as I like Interstellar, I can't justify paying what to me seems like a $400 USD premium over a watch like their
Also, in their description of the watch, Hamilton state that the watch was worn by Murph, played by Jessica Chastain. Well not to me. Murph will always be Mackenzie Foy. The scene where Coop leaves is the emotional core of the movie.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY RICHARD
Wow this is totally coincidental I was just researching picking one of these up. I thought it was showing in my feed due to Googling turns out the video was just uploaded. I think this is one of the better looking Khakis fields and also a bit unique instead of typical field watch look. Kinda dressy for a field watch. Hmmm that long lug to lug is something I hadn't and that lack of AR is extremely obvious I wonder how bad it is in person.
Lovely watch. It’s a $550 -$600 usd watch. Even with the one or two little extra touches . And why no AR again?? Nice review.
do you rate Alpina watches at all? - seems to be a few deals on their watches just now, and I'm temted to buy a pilot watch...
Japanese solar quartz watches always is my idea of watches, but I started looks forward to try a mechanic watch in future, and I don't mind if the accurate of this Hamilton fell in +/_5sec a day.
It's beautiful, nothing about it I don't like. Dunno why I don't have one yet - guess I'll start looking 🤩
Cheers 👍👍
Fwar that's a bit of me that ! Nice big button ! I've considered getting a ventura but it was a bit too small then I've looked at the Elvis 80 which is bigger but 600 quid more ! So now I've seen this and I'm thinking hmmm I like a bit of vintage military.. 🤔
It would be nice if they had put some lume in the morse code marks. IMO you need a wrist over 7.5 inches to wear it just fine.
A beautiful looking watch but at 42mm I think it's just too large for this very classical looking design. I think 38mm would have been a better size and opened it up as a unisex option for women who would also be interested in this piece after watching the film.
I put a black croc leather strap with white stitching on my black dial baby Alpinist, and it looks very similar to the Murph and being 38mm it's the size the Hamilton should have been
Richard will be happy….great watch. Nice review.
They just announced a 38mm version
I'd like a 36 or 38 mm version of this. Beautiful thing.
You got what you asked for
One thing bothering me about the intro, from what I can tell, is that an automatic watch being assembled? Why does it beep at the end?
The lack of AR, and 42/52mm are a shame. If it had AR and was 40/50 (or a bit smaller) I would definitely buy one
Love the shirt. Anyways nice to see the 90s Godzilla movies represented.
Happy Birthday Richard!
Great aesthetics! I feel that this style would be better suited at 36-38mm -- but brilliant design! And the morse code is soo great!
Nice watch, how does it compare to the Sinn556A?
Beautiful watch, but need to lose a few mm, plus AR coating.
I have tried this watch and even though it should work for my wrist it doesn’t. That hands are too weird and the crown sticks out like a Vostok crown. I really wanted to like this watch but I couldn’t. And you are right, the MSRP is too high. This is a 600-700 dollar watch at best.
I’m considering it as my first Swiss made automatic watch. Got my Kamasu as diver entry watch
It's a beauty ... is the morse code on the second hand lume ?
No
No AR kills it for me. Have a Hamilton Navy from a trip to Aruba any years ago I'll never sell, but gets little wrist time cause it's hard to read.
While we're at it, Hamilton's biggest movie-related watch crime was to not make the sweet-ass ani-digis from Tenet. Instead, they made a way-too-large automatic that didn't contain the digital feature that made their movie watch the actual movie watch.
