2 enthusiasts having a proper chat about a car that’s completely illogical and utterly fantastic in equal part. Something that’s not able to be captured on paper specs. Brilliant work Johnny. 👍👍
I wonder how many giant, multi national car companies look on at Morgan with envy thinking "we wish we could make that"? One of the UK's most traditional brands putting out some of the most outstanding designs in all the car world - I absolutely love it!
@Richard Harrold a huge corporation would have no trouble setting aside a tiny fraction of its obscene profit margin to produce something different with little to no risk (hence factory racing teams etc), there is simply no profit to be made. a small company on the other hand has to survive (even one owned by a large multinational investment group) - any new product is a huge investment and consequently, a huge risk. if this project doesn't increase sales according to the owner's expectations, expect morgan to possibly be up for sale once again.
Looks like fun, glad Morgan still exists. Lamenting the lack of V-twin pedestrian airbag at the front and the toddler maiming exhausts down the sides but I hope it still finds plenty of homes.
I love this guy. He's so excited to chat about his car like he's doing a show and tell at school. He truly loves this little car and I'm happy for him.
I seriously believe he is the most under-rated vehicle designer in the world since Livio Dante Porta (a guy who designed amazing steam trains that were mostly not built but actually could have made steam trains competitive long after they were).
Wow I'd be excited too if I was pushing pure street cred. It's not practical look at the roads where you live the pot holes will kill it especially the single wheel at the back. You need to get out more .
Really great video. You can tell how much the Morgan chap enjoyed explaining the development rationale to someone who really appreciates and champions good design. Thank you for just letting him talk.
Amazing, amazing, amazing. I've never watched a car video with a big grin on my face before. Morgan, I love you for developing something so fresh and fun. This is the perfect toy for car drivers who think of dabbling with bikes. I think this offers the best of both worlds. The safari version looks sooooo cool.
Oh man, going through the configurator allowed me to create a dream version of a very classic looking roadster. I love the fact that such a car is possible to manufacture and sell today. It certainly makes more sense than owning a roadster from the 30s. This way I could have a small, nimble car that is fun to drive while looking a lot like the massive and heavy pre-war roadsters.
Pot holes will kill it, it's not practical for shitty British roads. Really , it's just a show off street cred numptys car. I'd prefer a really good motorbike for half the money.
I love this guys enthusiasm you can tell he’s a proper car guy not just a PR guy . I visited the factory last summer great experience, I’m glad to see they are still going strong 👍🏻
The fact that they've taken a Ford EcoBoost engine and ripped the turbocharger off gives me great vibes about this car. No lag, better noise and more satisfying to use, and 3-pots are already far more interesting than 4-pots. Plus the designer - what a spokesperson he is for the company! So enthusiastic and full of excitement about his creation. Wonderful video as per normal Jonny.
Excellent video yet again Johnny. Brilliant to hear the designer explain why they designed it as they did. Just brilliant. This is the best of car shows (it is a car show not a TH-cam) and shows what Top Gear could and should be.
Love that Morgan are still a company, and great to see a new model. I'm sure the styling will grow on me but I really do prefer the old one, I really lust after the original!
With every episode you just know the quality is going to be top notch! A man with a passion for motoring and design. I was going to say the same about the wheels looking like they were off an xj220. Thank you for another spot on episode, perfect way to round the day off. Along with half a packet of biscuits 😂

Growing up in a small mining village in the 1970’s, the vicar had a Morgan 3 wheeler. He would allow us have rides out after Sunday School. This was in my opinion the coolest car there was and probably still is. I’m not sure at what point I will be able to afford one but it is still my dream. Morgan, I’m so glad you are keeping this car alive and therefore keeping my dream alive 😁.
Excellent presentation. Fabulous car... this is something I dreamed about 50 years ago... and here it is.. and it took Morgan to do it... I want one in an exploration mode.
Hired the ‘old’ 3-Wheeler on a summers day a few years ago, one of the best drives of my life. Bonkers fun! Hopefully get to have a spin in this one one day. Looks awesome.
Absolutely bloody loved this. Just drank in the details. What a gem of British eccentricity. Can't wait for you to test drive and post that review. Well done Jonny 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
The looks have grown on me . Took a while to get over the lack of engine on display. It’s got some real nice practical conveniences though that should prolong the driver's enjoyment .
Just visited Morgan in Malvern earlier this week, and drove the Super3 with their instructor along for the ride. Spent an hour driving through the Malvern Hills. Great fun. It has this almost-magical property of being both retro and modern at the same time. The car is quite small when you stand next to it, and feels even smaller when you’re behind the wheel with standard cars all around you. As a practical matter, this is purely a toy, in the same way a Harley is a toy. But it’s a mighty fun toy, and it actually functions in all respects that it needs to take you on adventures. The Morgan family sold control of the company to an Italian VC firm, but it appears that the result is positive…now they have funds for creating exciting new products. The factory tour, the Visitor Center, everything is beautifully curated. All the tour guides are/were Morgan owners (job requirement). Stop lamenting the loss of the air cooled engine…the Ford mill is a perfect fit for this machine, while the S&S was NEVER going to be able to meet the next tier of emission regs. And it has plenty of character, while not shaking out your fillings.

It's handsome, and very respectable of the Morgan legacy. Another iconic piece of the company's always forward future, and hopefully it will be a lasting and memorable machine for years to come...then into the historic world of the 3 wheeler realms. Hold my pint!
I tell you what, they are mad as a box of frogs but they are cool. I think they have done a great job on this and trying to bring it up to date as it were. It is so refreshing when the guy talks about the master craftsmen and how they build them. I really hope that it does well and we can keep this type of workmanship going, rather than the samey new vehicles the masses get. Granted might be a push for a daily driver but as a want rather than a need, it works! You keep surprising us Jonny with this content!
I'm a massive fan of Morgan. I've only seen a Morgan once. It was a red +4. If I ever have enough money I'd love to own one some day. I love the look of this new one. I'm so glad they went with a Ford engine and not something Asian like Lotus did. Thanks.
Well that sounds a bit racist, the 1.5 Ford Dragon engine will be made predominately in China for worldwide distribution, with some in UK if more supply numbers are needed. India will produce them also but just to supply their own market. You know China is "Asian" don't you ...
Spotted the lister jag wheels too (XJ or XJS I think).. Also a little reminiscent of some early Bugatti styles. I have so many sketches of this car at home drawn over the last 35 years or so. I'm glad they finally built it. Thanks Jonny & the team for more excellent car chat. :)
Quality content overload! love the tentacle indicators, looks amazing and a great video, had a great visit to the factory a few years back, amazing place!
To me this represents the essence of a fun drive, low(ish) power and speed, but huge smile's per mile. reminds me of an vintage Austin 7 Ulster (minus a wheel). Love it
Looks amazing fun but still a bit of a pain in the rain I suppose. Well done and great talk with that Mr. Wells. I think the shared passion and enthusiasm really shines through and it is very enjoying to watch. Cheers
A Thoroughly Modern Moggie, wonderful to see what I call a true legacy car company still keep evolving. Hope you can show us a road test in the future Jonny
Loved the EV3. Reminded me of sci-fi robots and ships from the 1930s. Sort of retro futuristic. I really hope they will bring it back now in this chassis.
These look so good. I've wanted a Morgan (4 wheel) since I first saw one when I was 2. One day, though would settle for a Morgan coffee cup tbh. Great video was ever, your knowledge and enthusiasm shines through as ever!
@@TheLateBrakeShow Was hoping to go on the factory tour during Pre-War Prescott last year but PWP ended up changing the date from July to September and Morgan couldn't accommodate us.
I understand the reasoning for ditching the old V-twin but it looked amazing. The front end of the new car doesn’t look right. Expect a styling update early into its life cycle.
I really like that, always had a soft spot for the Morgan 3 wheel. Another great production Jonny, can’t wait see the follow up where you take it out on the road 😎
Really enjoyed hearing about all the considerations Morgan have made when redesigning such an iconic car. They've really put some thought into it, and the updates they've made to the technology they're using is fascinating. Seriously, even with all the money in the world I would probably have this in my garage rather than any modern supercar. You would never be even close to exploring what it can do, and I'd imaging the experience would be quite boring when you're at 2/10ths of the limit.
Jonny, this was another classic review. The gentleman here reminded me very much of Gordon Murray, just knows the car inside out and didn't put anything on it for no reason. I am not in the target market for this car but jeez was i impressed. You wouldn't be disappointed if you bought one.
Coming into the video I had already seen the price and thought “you could get something a lot better for that”, but after watching the video I think I get it. Super cool.
Another awesome film. I agree that Mr Morgan is worth every penny of his salary, so passionate without any typical marketing guff or fluff. Again I'm repeating what has been said before but two enthusiasts enthusing about what is an enthusiasts vehicle. Loved it. You're on a roll Mr Smith. I can't imagine Morgan Cars using any other channel for this release, the ethos of the channel and it's audience so understand this product in it's entirety. We may not be in the market to buy one, but we'd all have your hand off for a go in one!
They've done a fantastic job again. The levels of craftsmanship, customisation and eccentricity are sublime. I would sooner daily an EV and have something like this in the garage than have a bloated V8 SUV for the same money.
Jonathan said he’d save the best first til last. What was it? After three factory visits I realise I now need a Morgan more than ever. Great video Jonny 👍🏻
Love it, really interested in the EV side of things as well so I'm looking forward to your review of that. Will certainly be on the shopping list when the kids have left home and the Atom / Morgan silliness is required :)
As many commented, great enthusiasm from both. This'd be a decent alternative - and a bit more personal rather than having a 'pillion' - to a 2 wheel tourer like an RT, HD or even Gold Wing. Good to see Morgan (seemingly?) prosper over the last decade.
Jonny you are probably the best presenter I have ever seen (I'm ex BBC, ex Discovery, ex MTV producer, so basically a semi retired old fart who's seen a few), great car review as usual! One small critic, please try and show a few more relevant close up shots, its what we car enthusiasts who can't be standing beside you really want to see! Cheers.
Nice to see a modern engine in the 3 wheeler, i kind of understood the old Harley derived unit choice last time but was always a very temporary choice. Love the satnav it basically nicks the concept from Philips Satnav from mid 90s like in my old Omega
It was an S and S X wedge engine, not a harley, designed as a alterative to replica Harley Evo engines during the custom chopper boom of the early naughties. It never really found many buyers, as it needed a different drivetrain and chassis to a Harley.
My "I wnat one now!" list is getting way out of control. I'm so glad Morgan is still developing the three wheeler. The last one was great, this one looks pretty amazing too. I'm guessing you will be driving one very soon Jonny? The wheels remind me of the Aston Bulldog.
The most exciting new car of 1922... but seriously, if I could have one in Canada I would. Stupid gov't regs. I love the 3-wheeler/Super 3 so much!!!! Great vid Jonny!!!
Absolutely brilliant... Still has the look of a true Morgan 3 wheeler but brought up to date with a totally modern rethink, as impractical as ever but still every petrol heads dream..
What I want is a bare bones sports car that seats four, open air, is electric, and has at least 80 miles range. That car, my dream car, now has Morgan accessory mounts on it in my head.
Love it! What a fascinating inviting machine. A beautifully realized update on the original. The slab sides with the number are a bit odd however. I get the explanation, but aesthetically, it looks like an afterthought. It seems like they could've found a more sculptural approach without diminishing its function. Nonetheless, the rear boat tail look is fantastic. Very similar to the Nobe GT100 three-wheeler. It looks like Morgan got there first. ;-)
My comment is probably going to be unpopular. I loved the previous ‘3’. The exposed engine at the front was iconic. It’s one of the features that made it so unique. I was looking forward to the ‘new 3’ and was thinking about getting one, until I saw it. To me, the new ‘3’ just hasn’t got the same appeal. Sorry to all those that love the new car, but for me, it’s just not got the same appeal.
I'm definitely not a eccentric extravert, nor do I have the money to buy it. But I really do love this. Thanks for the explanation about that indicators, too bad for regulations. Great vid of an awesome creation!

Yep pity the greedy elements of the Morgan family sold it out to a none British company...........
how many? none. they could easily do it, there's just zero economic incentive to.

Cheers.
Bloody marvelous. I'm more interested in this than Gordon Murray's latest hyperthing.
My Dad has a Original Morgan three wheeler with a Ford engine, a wild machine. Great to see this new version.
A straight three cylinder engine has a very nice character at high revs. This will be fun!
Very sad to see the V-twin go away, but very glad to see the Morgan continue.
Looks like this is the most watched new morgan3wheeler review on TH-cam and it looks like it’s going to hit 200,000 in the next 2/3 weeks time!
It’s because we have all the weirdos that appreciate left-field. Long live the left-field ✊🏻
What a marvellous video! I want one of theses... desperately.
I was holding my breath, desperately hoping it wasn’t electric! Joy upon joy! Sound and character - wonderful!
Just had a play around on the configurator - absolutely beautiful. I just wish I had the cash for one. Maybe one day!
Superb. Beautifully designed and built. But it looks like the wonderful Heath Robinson-ness, that made the last model so special, has been lost.
