Can you bake a displacement map from cycles, use it as a texture in eevee and link it to the displacement which then goes to displacement node [without really worrying about a subvision or maybe still need it]? Seems like it's actually possible, but meh. One could hope I guess.
Thanks! what about adaptive subdivision? It used to be in Cycles, experimental features in the subdivision tab. Now it seems to be gone. I remember seeing something about dicing scale but I can't find that either.
doesnt appear so atm. im also testing this now and you need raw subdivis. maybe that will change on release idk. its still pretty amazing to see this in viewport. it also renders textures much better like a game engine does.
Frustratingly, there was someone working on exactly that for ages, developing for months and months and months, way back in the early stages of Eevee Next. They actually got really far and it was pretty much all working, save for some bugs here and there. And then they just vanished. Completely abandoned the branch and the Git, never to be heard from again.
Been looking around a bit. Eevee Next is not faster than regular Eevee. Render wise it requires twice the time. But that makes sense, as this version of Eevee has Ray Tracing. But if you compare Eevee to Cycles, Eevee has always been fast. And Eevee Next is still way way faster than Cycles. Even when its twice as slow, it can still render way quicker than Cycle can ever hope to achieve.
unfortunately this is the case with most tutorials like this. most of the big blender guys will do it correctly and even give you the file or just make a really complete tutorial, but those smaller ones really do this often. I've commented on some after figuring out how to make it work so other people can get it too. I even wondered about making a channel only for these

Very helpful tutorial! Maybe I'll start using eevee more now.
It will work this method and in Cycles ?
Eevee Next still has many shortcomings, but for certain scenes it is pretty decent!
Is this eevee next?
You can't use adaptative subdivision?

I wish they had a node for Parallax Occlusion Mapping which would give close to same result but with far far less geometry.

There's a 2.92 build with POM working on eevee and cycle, it's beautiful
Do you find the "Eevee next" faster than the older one? Haven't seen reviews on it yet
That's because it's not finished yet. 4.2 will be the first official release.

@@M1ndblast But do people still have the option of activating the old Eevee from the add-on section? Speaking from my perspective cos of my type of PC
@@OduzzRocks don't think so. In the alpha you could select both eevee and eevee next.
@@OduzzRocks i think they'll make the option for both eevees
Isnt the same old way of doing it using displacement modifier but more elegant
shift alt s???? i didnt know making a sphere was so fast
did like 0 people try this? because the main important piece of information is missing from this video
