This is my first time viewer and enjoyed the video. I am building a French Cleat System that will be combined w/ our current Elfa Garage Organization System that we got 10 yrs ago, which worked well for storage of small tools and stuff. However, since starting my new adventures in woodworking last year, thus getting power tools, their accessories, built JIGs and having residual wood from prior projects, space had decreased exponentially, plus things have become disorganized. Agree w/ you that having the most used tools visually presented in front than in a drawer, cut the time used to look for them. Thanks for the pep talk of not overthinking and just do it as it will make a huge difference in the shop. I am starting building mine this weekend. Keep up the good work!🙂
Just wanted to let you know that this is an awesome channel. Your explanations are easy to follow and clear and concise. Keep up the amazing work. I'm definitely going to use a lot of your tips when I do my French cleat wall. 👍
Thank you for your kind comment. I'm glad that you enjoy the channel. You keep watching and I'll keep making them. Lot's of cool videos coming very soon, so stay tuned and stay safe.
Hey just want to say you have good camera presence. Relatable and understandable. About to set up a new shop in the spring/summer and going to go with the french cleat system.
Thank you for the kind words and I hope that the video helped. I think that you will enjoy the options that your french cleats will give you. Especially if you're setting up a new shop. Good luck.
Thank you for your excellent video. Your explanations are refreshingly clear and succinct. Thank you for sharing. There has been some discussion around cleats with 45 degree cuts top and bottom. Do you have any views on this?
I talk about that topic a bit in this video link.... th-cam.com/video/r7_b36grG_w/w-d-xo.html Many people have told me that they really enjoy the dual 45 degree bevel approach and that it's easier to set up. Let me know what you think and thank you for watching.
How far apart (spacing) is your French cleats on the wall? Will you do a video on how to make your simple tray holder. I am a newbie. Thank you so much!
Hi, about to build a French cleat wall in my shop and would like to know how thick and wide your cleats are, and how far apart did you put them? Your approach makes tons of sense to me, thanks for sharing.
Thank you for the kind words and for watching. I used a basic interior paint that was mixed at Home Depot. It's not latex based and it's not oil based. I'll have to double check for you
Sorry for the delay. My cleats are spaced at 5 inches. From the bottom edge of one cleat to the bottom of the cleat sitting above it. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching
I used the 1st option with the 90 degree cut on the bottom of my cleats. My spacing is 5 inches from the bottom of one cleat to the bottom of the next. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching
Has anyone tried using 1/2 for the cleats ? In the uk the ply is laughable. 3/4 birch is available but I'd need a mortgage. I have a load of decent 1/2 marine ply strips I was thinking of using
I actually have a friend that decided to use that exact method for his french cleats because 3/4 plywood had such a high cost during the Covid period. I don't think that he had any bad issues.
@@angrybeaverwoodworks: So would you feel comfortable making shelves/boxes/containers out of 1/2” plywood and the cleats out of 3/4” (so long as nothing is crazy heavy)? Your belt sander container looks like it uses both. Thanks for the great info!
@@b-radg916 I think that would be perfectly fine. I honestly do it all of the time. Just like the belt sander you mentioned. I look at the overall dimensions of an item and the weight, then I design a mount. If it's really heavy, or big, I might use ALL 3/4 inch. But I think you'll be happy with your direction. It should work fine.

I watched both of the French cleat videos and I can see the improvement, keep up the great videos! BTW, what type of paint did you use?

Really useful video. Thanks. What is the spacing between each of your wall cleats? (Thanks, I’m in the UK but old enough still to use inches ;))
Sorry for the delay. My cleats are spaced at 5 inches. From the bottom edge of one cleat to the bottom of the cleat sitting above it. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching
That’s great. Thanks a lot.

Hi!
What is the spacing between your cleats and what is the width of your cleat?

Two of my walls are cement!?!
