Put a sample screw on the front of the screw bin. Quick and easy identification.
Love your content. 1 piece of unsolicited advice from somebody that has/will never do TH-cam videos: don’t end your videos so abruptly. I may be the anomaly, but I usually wait until after the video to like it or comment and when yours end super quick the next video starts playing and I have to re-click on your video to do that. Seems like most other TH-camrs have an outro whatever play for a few seconds. Just an idea from someone who has no clue what they’re talking about
They should fade to black for a few seconds. This way any content at the end is not covered up by the Suggested Viewing video links.
I have Auto Play turned off. The extra time at the end would also be helpful for when the video is in a play list, disabling Auto Play does not work with play lists.
Nice use of the term fortnightly
You always want your brad nailer perpendicular to the narrow piece you are nailing into. The chisel point on the brads makes them prone to following the grain and blowing out through the face of narrow stock. By orienting the nailer perpendicular to the narrow stock if the brads follow the grain they will do so parallel to the face of the piece rather than coming out through it.

I am a DIYer and also have two DeWalt drills and drivers, only because I took half my workshop, including a DeWalt flip saw, from the UK to France in 2017 to work on my Sons house and left my drill/driver box behind! One of the joys of this community is everyone is willing to share everything, including mistakes which could so easily be edited out. Keep up the good work 🌞
1:15 i have 6 drills for various uses. 1 lives in my car with battery and other tools, 2 for drill driving, another right angle, 1 for my wifee to use if needed (low speed won't hurt her) and the last is for heavy duty hammer/killin' stuff, I also use it for mixing in the kitchen and cleaning.

Man I love your videos. Not everybody has a 1500 ft² shop with floor to ceiling French cleat walls and all the tools in the world. I spend as much time trying to tailor most youtuber/woodworking plans to fit in my wonky old basement shop as I do actually buildings them. I really appreciate the thought process that goes into all your videos not to mention putting the mistakes on display.

I have two 48"x48" versions of those in my shop. I do have more than two each of drills and impact drivers, but then I've got 18v and 12v varieties and like to have enough drivers to keep one chucked philips, one Torx 25 and one square bit. I also have other tools slotted in like my impact wrenches, my nailers, etc. I have all my chargers on the shelf above with one shelf having all Milwaukee chargers and the other having Makita, Ryobi, and even a Craftsman (don't ask) charger. The remaining shelves above are for my cordless tools that won't fit in a slot like jigsaw, circ saw, oscillating multitool, hand routers, sanders, etc., along with a bunch of screws.
It’s comforting that your mistake-to-progress ratio is about the same as mine. Also your shop evolution is at the same stage as mine, so your videos are getting a good look. Thanks!

I did have to chuckle just a little bit when you said you were making a small organizer because you weren't sent all kinds of drills and drivers that you had to store, but that you were sent a cordless nailer.
Love your videos. For us budget, small shop woodworkers or beginners your videos just show that you don't need thousands of dollars to woodwork. 👍👍

For cleating(?) bins, no need for alu --- some leftover click-together laminate usually works... When fitting laminate to a room, the last row normally is halved to fit so you have an entire wall's length of these to cut off. That's what my bins hang off... It's the plastic underside that's showing, which is usually coloured into something that goes well with wood (if you have wood pattern laminate).
I learned the brad nailer thing the hard way - sending a nail partially through my finger when installing trim :)
The fold down drawer was great! Even doing it right, sometimes those damn nails find a way out!
I love pre-drilling, I do it all the time, even when watching this video
Great job on the stand. It's too bad about the brads coming out the side, I learned not to do that when I shot one into a finger!

I had to LOL when you routed that cable chase. Thanks for leaving that in! You might consider adding a few of the battery storage clips to the side of the unit, to save that shelf for more stuff. Nice little set up.
Great job, and much appreciated on a smaller design; like you said, most hobbyists don't have more than a few drills and drivers.
As for the dowelmax, I'll take every chance to sing its praises whenever I see it used in a video. Pricey for a doweling jig, sure. But it has just as much accuracy and joint strength as a domino. The domino is an amazing tool, but a dowelmax is an investment worth every penny as well. It's incredibly well-built too.
I would say an average of two to four drills for the average wood butcher..
@@michaellovetere8033 Sounds right; I've culled the heard down to three: drill, impact and installation driver. It handles everything I need.
Total hobby and side hustle wood worker here and I have 7 drills and 1 impact driver lol (bought black and decker drill first on clearance and an additional drill with battery and charger was cheaper than just another battery so I have 4 of those and did the same with hart tools to end up with 3 drills and an impact driver from that line)

Nice and simple solution! Yeah you're right that way too many similar projects are complete overkill.
I will be using the glue dowel salad the next time i use a lot of dowels. Makes it seem like a much easier way to do it.

This is super smart I need something like this for my 2 drills brad and pin nailer. Use them on almost every project so why not have them somewhere I can grab and more importantly put away in a second.
I’ve been trying to convince myself to buy that dowel max system for a while now. My current wolf craft dowel jig is terrible. Not very accurate or adaptable to different joints.
Can we get a live webcam on the tool rack so that we can watch those drywall anchors pull out in real time?
That would be a very boring stream - because nothing would happen. It's been on the wall for over a month now (It takes me a while to edit and post a video, lol)

Thanks for the vid. I like how most of woodworking on YT is about making jigs or accessories for one's shop in order to be more efficient in woodworking... Anyway, you need to make videos more often.
I like and appreciate it when experts make mistakes and own up to them. If you're in Canada maybe you don't have a Harbor Freight, they have those little containers for screws and have plastic mounting brackets with them. Very inexpensive and look the same as what you bought only they are gray.

My only suggestion for other folks is to build your drill holder deep enough so you can keep your most common bits in the drivers rather than needing to take them out every time you want to put your drill away. Cheers Scott!

Hey Scott, and thanks for all your videos, I am beginning in woodworking for about 1 year now and i wish i could have big room like this, I made a small and I mean small woodworking hobby room 1.5m x 3.5m, in there I have a rauter table, table saw, mitersaw, drillpress and primitive dust collection. It is my Hobbyroom but I call it my Hobbit room.

Sometimes the Brad nail will curve out the side even when you do everything perfect. You just don't know when I the will happen so kept your hands clear of where you are shooting, unless you want one to nail your hand!

Another thanks for including mistakes. My mistakes typically turn 1 hour projects into 4 hours. But I'd rather be wooding than working!!!
One of the best features is that this design is small. So it's the right fit to get started, and then if the need arises in the future, make a second one to double the capacity.

Noticed the absent riving knife. Do you keep it off or was it just not put back after the dado cuts?
I noticed you've got the dewalt bit holder. Also pretty sure you're in the great white north... soooooo I've found the DeWalt robertson bits are about as effective as a freeDumb convoy, so keep an eye out for the home depot milwaukee sets to go on sale from time to time, or if you can ever find the magical unicorns which are the bosch double sided robertson #2 bits that were at Canadian tire at some point in their lifetime nab those. the Mastercrap maximum ones are pretty solid too as an option. That said, the dewalt cases are better, so get some red in that yellow!
So what was the proper way to use a nail gun? I just did not hear or see it proper way.
You are brave to cut such large pieces on the table saw without a riving knife. OUCHHH!!.
which app did you use to print the template and then tape the papers together to be actual size of project?
I have like 5 drills. One for work and the others in my shop. I bought 3 combo set then a forth one because it came with 2 batteries and was same price as stand alone batteries

I like the smaller design. I only have a few drills and drivers and this would fit the bill nicely. The only problem I have with that system is the open bins. After a while they get full of shop dust as well as bugs and spiders in the ones I don't use often.

Do most people put finish on functional shop items? I usually leave them plain unless I expect moisture exposure etc.
7:44 this is dependent upon which nails you're using. You want the clip on the end of the nail to be perpendicular to the board you're nailing into
It looks great! I have 8 cordless driver/drill's. There are a few duplicates but not as many as you might think, because I do more than just wood projects, so my diversity of tools goes way beyond what an average woodworker might have. My ADD is in play so I love all sorts of things. Some of this is left over from my days of owning a handyman service where i got into everything you could imagine. Recently I had to buy a few new tools because some of my older tools could no longer be fixed and it was cheaper just to buy a new drill set. so I have a few things left over in the process. Everyone makes mistakes, the difference is can you use them to your advantage and can you make it look like you never made a mistake at all? Some of my mistakes ended up guiding my build and it actually turned out better than I had planned. so I don't get too upset when things go a bit sideways. Even if it is a complete fail, at the very least I learned something in the process. The biggest mistake is to quit. so enjoy the process.

Scott, was this the video referenced in the live stream with John from Lincoln street that you thought about scrapping the entire thing? As Always very insightful video that’s well edit and shows how projects in the real world go. Especially nice to see a fresh take on a popular topic.
yeah, i can't remember exactly what we said, but it was originally a longer video with talking head segments, but it felt too disjointed, so I decided to keep the build only. The talking head segments could make its own, shorter video. Haven't thought too much about it yet.
This video made me feel so much better about my last build that I struggled with. Congrats if you are really managing to move to a bigger and better shop space.
Regarding the dowel jig: I’m less than 50 years old, and my first car was “a fraction” of what a domino tool costs. ;) This turned out very nice (efficient/attractive) despite the oops-es. Thanks for sharing the oops-es; you likely saved someone else from making those errors. I remember learning the brad nail orientation requirement the hard way. I really like the trick of using slightly over-long screws to mark the drywall behind the project; I’m sure that will come in handy.

Great! Depending on people's needs and number of chargers, it might be nice to make the whole thing portable and hang it on the wall with a French cleat. I'm just thinking about that for those people that have limited numbers of chargers, when you're wanting to be mobile, you might not want your chargers mounted to something fixed.

Wait, so what exactly did you learn about the brad nailer? I did a quick search on your channel and didn't see a video on the topic (which isn't a complaint; I realize your videos are more about over-all projects than specific technique), and didn't see something on the subject. I bought my first brad nailer not too long ago, and I'd appreciate what advice I can get.
