The Black Lion Audio B172A is two compressors in one housing-one '76-style and one '2A-style. Here, Mike Watts of VUDU studios demonstrates the broad possibilities of the B172A on bass, guitar, drums, vocals, and even a full mix... including running the two compression circuits independently as well as in series.
First, Mike demos the '76 and '2A circuits of the B172A on various instruments: guitar, bass, drums, vocals, and a full mix.
Next he provides examples of the '76 circuit being run into the '2A circuit in series.
Lastly, he demos the '2A circuit being run into the '76 circuit in series.

Thank you for another quality in depth video. I take alot away from your content. I must say after days of researching you have made it exceptionally easy for me to make my decision about purchasing the B172A.

This is probably the best shootout video I've ever seen on any gear -- very detailed and very honest. I feel like the original 1176 has a slower release on the drums and has more of a mid punch on vocals, but other than that the BLA unit sounds pretty much spot on. If I had the money and the choice I would probably use the original units on vocals and drums, but I'd be totally happy with a BLA unit. The BLA unit almost has a more modern sound on the vocals which will probably age very well as time goes on. Also, I'm sure making slight adjustments on the BLA would get the exact result or even better than the original units. Great video! I'm a huge fan of BLA and would love to own some BLA gear someday!

Why is the noise floor so high in this video when u have the gear right there? 😂

    Dear Santa... 🙂
Really like how the B172A deal with the transients on the bass compared to the 1176.

Unbelievable how close the Black Lion gets to the originals. The 1176 side is pretty much identical and the 2A is mostly identical except when crushing things it seems to allow a touch more openness. Not sure if openness is the right word but allows a touch more through.
When using the 1176 and 2A together all of it sounds sooooooooo close. I think you just sold me on picking up the Black Lion.
