  • In this video, I embark on a mission to stress test firework mortar racks as I plan to build new ones for personal use. The goal is to assess various designs and determine the features I want to incorporate. In each test, I deliberately trigger the explosion of a firework canister shell inside the HDPE tube to observe how the energy transfers to different wooden racks.
It's important to note that I'm not an expert, and this video does not serve as a guide for building mortar racks. My intention is solely to share the results of these tests because at a minimum, I think these tests showcase a good variety of tube failures and highlights the power of consumer fireworks.
A couple of factors to consider with these tests are that they involve small 5-shot racks, and the impact of a tube failure on a larger 10-shot rack might differ significantly. Additionally, I focused on the middle tube in every rack, and the effects of a failure in a different tube could vary. I chose to use a different shell for each test so the force exerted on the tubes in each separate test could have varied, impacting the results you see.
Having finished this test, my next step is to construct a 10-shot mortar rack with no spacers and a 1.5 inch for a follow-up test. Based on the results of that secondary test, I will either make more of the same design or opt for a different one. Furthermore, I plan to build a 40 shot rack to replace my outdated 55 shot racks, I will share the video when its completed.
*Due to the dangerous nature of these tests, I strongly discourage anyone from attempting to recreate them.
