Even though I usually prefer the idea of getting to play as the Terminator in a Terminator game (if only to get a cool HUD with lots of information and indicators on it or something) the idea of being stalked by a Terminator sounds interesting and scary, as being stalked by Mr X was really the only time I was scared in RE2 Remake. Not that the rest of the game was bad or anything, just not super scary.
Needs to happen. It would be dark, gritty and scary like the Alien Isolation game. That would be an amazing game. I’d love to see a terminator game like this
Watching this back in 2021. Its been maybe a year since i played this game. And the MOMENT Mr. X popped up, i got chills. If you haven't played this game yet, you owe it to yourself, folks.
Just started playing REmake 2 for the first time this weekend, played and got introduced to the game franchise with origins collection for switch. Can’t believe what I was missing out on especially since I love zombies and horror
I'm really sorry about the age-restriction that your video has been hit with. I really hope that it's temporary and I'm gonna share the video to help spread it to people I know are able to watch it.
@Zachary Erickson Fair enough. Jirard has even pointed this out on Twitter, and it's not totally unprecedented. However, that doesn't change that this is going to mean that this video, and videos for the Completionist from now on are going to have that much harder of a time making money. So, I want to spread this video to my friends who are my age and are able to watch it if they so choose.
@Zachary Erickson yeah it might be but I havent seen anyone's let's play of the game get age restricted. To me this makes no sense and just further illustrates how fucked up this site is at the moment
As sad as it is that the series wont hit the algorithm sweet spot and wont bring as much revenue, it RE games do have some grusome stuff. If you read the youtube guidelines, it says that violent videos and images can be striked with an age restrictions as long as its on TH-cam. Imagine if you saw gorey bloody corpses and things like that as a child :[
Haha. Realistically though, it does look great. The first scene with a zombie in this game gives me chills. I do feel that, at times, it looks a bit too real. And I don't mean that as in it is disturbing or anything, I mean they bring the art style to a point of realism that it ultimately looks more cartoon-like than they wanted. I would like them to go back to the old art style, but with the same level of detail that they have here.
This is extreme hardwork to run a channel like this. Loved the red light atmosphere for the talk and a typewriter next to you. Hope you have enough ink left for future saves
The second run only gave some tweaks to the storyline. I think that was more about making it a bit more interesting if you wanted to play the game again. Which I wanted.
The reason much of that went unexplained is because it would disrupt the story with exposition for an event that has nothing to do with the player character. It's a good choice. If you want to know more, it's in the notes you find. The mayor's daughter is there to entice you into reading those notes, for example. But a long winded explanation into what happened to her by the Chief or whatever would just cause the player to ask, "Why are you telling me this." I'm also baffled as to why people keep expecting to be able to "explore more of Raccoon City" in RE2 when that was one of the major differences that separated RE2 and RE3.

well tank controls are not only clunky, they’re slow, and sometimes camera angles make movements absolutely wonky, especially if you’ve never used then before. Now I can’t say for anyone else but I don’t necessarily hate tank controls. It’s just for me was born in 1998 so the games I grew up playing, while still clunky in control were less so than it’s not to long ago predecessors. In fact the first time I got a taste of true tank controls was actually on 10/11/2019 when I found an gamecube emulator and the original RE2. I struggled so hard to wrap my head around it that I died three or so times Before I even made it to the gun shop in Clair A because I just couldn’t wrap my head around these weird controls. I probably wouldn’t have stuck to the game if it weren’t for that arranged mode to help me get aquatinted with the movement of yesteryear. Now that I’m aquatinted with it, I’m ok with tank controls. However it’s no contest if I’m given the chance between choosing either tank controls or modern controls, I will always chose modern controls
I don't hate it too, specially in the 3 old games. But 4 onwards i think they became a little frustrating, because, by association, i was already expecting strafing and more agile movement system, which would be a bless in an action game like RE4. Is infuriating too see leon slowly turn when there's an enemy near you just because reasons.
@@conorallen100 Tank controls work really well with the RE franchise's early titles. They add to the tension and take control away from the player for the sake of atmosphere, which is a bold choice, but one thing that people tend to overlook is how well the tank controls work with the static camera angles. With tank controls, pushing forward will always make you go forward, regardless of where the camera is pointing so you don't have to worry about awkwardly leaving a camera's range and entering a new area only to press the wrong direction and walk right back out. They actually took out the tank controls in the RE1 remake for Gamecube (I don't remember if they were off by default, though) and it broke some of the game's mechanics and pacing, which goes to show you how well the two really fit together.
Complains about being too faithful to the source material... Complains about not being faithful enough to the source material... "Where's Brad?!?" lol Just teasin. Great vid as usual.
I feel like that too though. They were too faithful in certain parts where they could've done something new and they weren't faithful enough in places were they should've been (Claire and Leon had a bit more interaction in the original, and the 2nd run option does nothing new with the story like it did in the original so it's kind of pointless).
@James V, the B scenarios definitely suffered the worse. I hear Capcom added them much later and rushed it. They originally only intended to have 2 campaigns like RE1. I prefer how RE2 1998 did it. There were some repeats, but that's something this reimagining could've improved on. This is not gonna be an issue if Capcom remakes any RE post RE2 though, as those usually only starred one main character.
I feel we should've gotten notes or other indicators that we just missed Jill, considering the events of 2 and 3 take place close together, the busted walls in the shower and locker room are the only indicators that maybe Jill and nemmy were there before us, but, it could've also been Mr. X, we actually don't know how long he was in the station for, in scenario b we encounter him way before extinguishing the helicopter crash flames.
I've never played a single game in this series, nor am I particularly interested in it. But this was one of my favorite videos you've ever made. I really love this style of video, and I can tell how much you and your team put into it. I hope you're proud of this one, you should be!
Loved this game, went above and beyond to complete it myself. But I feel you should give the game a bit more credit for a few things. especially all the easter eggs (Rebecca's photo , Brad's poster, the squad's picture, Rita and David from outbreak and a few others for example.) The fact you can change the audio to the original is amazing too, along with the new free DLC 98' skins makes it a surreal experience lol. I did find it a bit of a bummer that there is no true continuity between scenario A and B like in the originals , but in my opinion they added enough for it to feel good anyway. I sincerely hope we will get a true DLC where we get to play and explore like in the main game instead of an arcade shoot em up. Maybe Brad's attempt at escaping as a RE3 Remake precursor ? Or even an Outbreak scenario with Rita and David? I'd love that.
Jirard this was my favorite video you have ever put out. Something about the almost somber way you presented this game was fantastic. I love the vast majority of your videos but this is easily my number 1. Keep putting out videos like this because I've never been more enthralled in a video you have made. Glad and not surprised you sat down to do this! Also not surprised it gets a finish it because wow. S+ rankings suck for hardcore. Respect for going above and beyond and earning all of them and I cannot wait for Ghost Survivors here on the completionist!

Tank controls with the camera placed behind Leon. There was a mod that made it fixed camera and yup, definitely tank controls. RE2 Reimagining does not have tank controls.
Re 4 is closer to a resident evil game than resident evil revelations, or any other iteration from up to the point of re 6. Playing it on professional makes it exactly like a proper resident evil game, whereby I remember as an inexperienced player, I was getting the same vibes, if not better than that of resident evil 2 in terms of survival. I think it was the naivety that it was going to be the same as a normal run. It rewards skilled players really well, but of course the forced action sequences are a terrible part of this great game. Its just resident evil nemesis without the item management. Sad that most people do not realise this.
I don't get how anyone can say with a straight face that your not good at video games 8 S+ rankings? your are a maniac and that is not to mentioned how good the production value of this video is are how tight all the music was well done good sir you slayed all month long but this was the perfect way to finish it
@@klartextgebliebenerstaatsa7296 RE4 totally had tank controls though. Pushing the stick left or right just made Leon turn, not like the rerelease of REmake on PS4 and PC where you could change to some garbage controls where the stick controlled the character like "normal" trash
Klartext gebliebener Staatsanwalt for videogames67 You're clearly not going to put any actual case forward for why you think RE4 doesn't have tank controls so I don't see how you expect anyone to believe you when all that's coming out of your mouth is useless vitriol. Nail in the coffin for your ineffectively made and flat-out wrong point: RE4's old camera angles mod makes it play like classic RE games without changing the controls in the slightest because they're--and wait for it...-- tank controls. So you can say it again if you want but at this point that would just be sad. RE4, without any modification to the controls, has tank controls; it's not debatable.
Outstanding Jirard and team! I am loving the new design and feels added to each episode matching the game! I can't even imagine how much work were added into it.

17:08 "Plus you can't use any of the infinite ammo weapons if you want that S+ Ranking" You can use the infinite knife though, acquired by destroying all Mr. Raccoons in the campaigns
This is the game (well the original) that got me into survival horror, and horror as a whole. This game/series helped to shape who I am today lol. This was a great reimagining. I know people crap on this but they did a great job keeping it original and fresh at the same time. When Mr. X showed up I had no idea what to do. I just paused the game and thought “well damn I wasn’t prepared for this” since I didnt check the monitor in the hall to know he was lurking around. It could have been better but I’m not going to hold it against the game. Well maybe aside from the scenarios like you said, but still.
Just wow. You have outdone yourself with this episode Jirard. No real skits, distractions, you stayed on point and presented it in such an interesting way I couldn't help but be glued to the screen. The music used throughout the game was not only fitting but immersed me into something I feared most. It also brought me to a better perspective of what people wanted out of the game and what they got. A fair trade off that sadly lost something some hold onto more than others. I understand why TH-cam age-restricted the video and it is a shame as most of what you showed from the gameplay would be just fine from a PG-13 film. I hope TH-cam does something better than restricted this for the general public, something like a 14+ only sort of thing where you can set the age range for your video to prevent it from such a restriction as I am certain most people who sign up to TH-cam are at or above that age.
Doing HARDCORE for the infinite ammo, HARDCORE 2ND Run for costumes and ammo. Even the Ghost Survivors was a pain, but DAMN THE ENDGAME WAS WORTH IT -Costumes -Infinite Ammo -Cosmetics -Tears And Anger all around
I mean, I personally mostly did it for fun (and satisfaction). I don't use the infinite ammo weapons anyway since they ruin the game, and the only really good looking costume is the casual one. All that combined with the pain i felt on my hardcore speedrun made it something I did becouse of my own stubborness and nothing else
PS4 Dude honestly s+ rankings were only intimidating before the first attempt. After doing them once you realise that besides the safes it’s nothing to difficult. Unlocking the cat ears in ghost survivors however is pretty fucking frustrating.
Your ideas are a bit too ambitious IMO, considering they'd have to make sure it runs great on consoles. The items were probably doable, but remembering corpse locations would probably eat too many resources for too little gain.
Starscream91 Yah bur RE1 has the graphics of a fucking potato and also it is still a game with a fixed camera and tank controls. It was basically just RE1 with bonus content. This game is much much different in what it does to RE2 graphic and gameplay wise
@Starscream91 Wait re2 remake does keep the corpses through the game. It just doesn't when switching to the 2nd run which the first remake didnt do either when picking the other character.
jakal yes you can, but it isn’t the biggest game changer, if you use it for a counter attack you will feel the need to retrieve it or sacrifice it, and there are plenty of knifes on the run, from my experience I recommend you use it in the beginning of the game to kill the zombies that are close to the shotgun/grenade launcher room and damage G1 with it, after that just use it like a regular knife
@@josetomascamposrobledano4618 well yeah that of course. I'm only saying it cause he said that infinite weapons couldn't be used for the hardcore s+ runs. It's allowed to be used and not affect the ranking is all I was trying to say.
jakal I just wanted to give tips 😅, it is allowed but it’s not like the other infinite weapons since you can use it for a counter attack and never see it for the rest of the run

Okay, I feel like there is something that needs to be said about RE4 here. Yes, the gameplay changed, but it was a RE game through and through. It is possible to completely run out of resources, the story is following the same path, and it has the same theme, bioterror. That's right, bioterror, not zombies. Zombies may be the main enemy in the first few games, but the series, including in the original Japanese name, has always been about bioterror. Think about it, what non-zombie enemies are in the first game? Here is a few: the Adders (snakes), Lisa, Tyrant, the Chimeras, the bees, the Hunters, the sharks, Yawn, Plant 42, and the tarantulas including the big red one. It wasn't until Operation Raccoon City that things started to deviate in terms of completely leaving the survival horror genre.
@@AKAdaJoker14 Could you elaborate on that? Are you saying nope to my entire comment or just a single detail. If the whole thing, fuck you, but if you have an actual counter argument, I'm ready to hear it.
@@satorukuroshiro I have a counter argument, RE4 is single handedly responsible for the direction the series took, with it's over-the-top action set pieces, constant ammo drops from enemies ensuring you never truly ran out of ammo, stupid melee combat, obnoxious QTE's, ugly drab colour scheme... basically everything that people hate about 5 & 6 started with RE4.... not to mention it's one long escort mission with the most useless annoying character in videogame history, Ashley, I was more afraid for my sanity if I had to listen to her shout "LEEOOOOON!" one more f***ing time! As someone who is old enough to have played ALL the original series _day one as they released_ RE4 is definitely not considered an RE game in my eyes. Fun action shooter yes, like 5 & 6 are, but RE it is not.
Samur/Aye Look “ugly colour scheme” “stupid mele combat” “you never truly ran out od ammo” is actually all just your opinion, a lot of people loved re4 and its one of the mostcritically acclaimed games of all time. It reinvented 3rd person over the shoulder camera thats is being used till to this day. Unmatchable level and encounter design, enemies are also creative and scary (regeneradors doesn’t ring a bell to you ?) You can easily run out of ammo if you aren’t carefull enough. Its a perfect mix between horror and action..something that re5/6 lacks....So don’t compare re4 to re5 because of the only thing they have in common is gameplay and over the shoulder camera. Atmosphere and level design is so much better in re4 than in those khm hkm action gameshmh hm. Also its the highest rated game in the series with 96 score and 9.1 user score. Ashley could be annoying but useful instructions like “follow me” or “wait” button can make your life a lot easier. Lets see enemy is approaching you while Ashley is on vulnerable position and you can quickly press “follow me” button so she can evade the enemy, its really not that hard to navigate her through some obstacles through the game. So your immature trynna be egdy swearing about that is not necessary.
@@amarson2322 those aren't opinions, they are facts... unless you like the colours of shit stained brown, dull greys and puke greens? And no, the regenerators aren't scary. Only a child would be "scared" of anything in any RE game, and I was already an adult when RE4 came out. Running out of ammo was also never an issue if you knew how to aim properly and didn't waste ammo like a noob. While not really combat centric, Splinter Cell did that 3rd person ots camera 3 years before RE4, Max Payne did it 4 years before, so it didn't re-invent anything. Only reason people love this game so much is the nostalgia from it blowing their tiny minds as a kid. I'll also add that "a lot of people" love the Transformers movies, but that doesn't make them good movies.
Funny how both Resident Evil games that completely redefined the franchise featured Leon. I'm also surprised how you didn't went hairless and beardless due the stress of teh S+ ranks.

I find it odd that in the Scary Game Squad Jirard and the others praise the realistic voice acting but in this video he says its just like the other RE stories, confusing. Also he might want to play the original again, way more was changed in this game then he gives it credit for.
Ya ik. Items were moved codes changed and zombie placement. Adding in the boards mechanic so that you can stop zombies from getting in. And if you dont well you will eventually get overrun

According to Capcom, this game is a new entry to the series rather than just a remake. Leon Kennedy is 21 during the events of Resident Evil 2. This remake comes out 21 years (and 4 days) after the release of the original PS One Resident Evil 2. Was built from the ground up on the RE Engine, the same engine that was used for Resident Evil VII: Biohazard (2017). No ink ribbons are needed to save this game when it's played on an easy or a normal difficulty. However, on a higher difficulty, this item is required. Despite taking many liberties to differentiate itself from the original Resident Evil 2, the game has unlockable skins for Leon and Claire: in their original polygonal forms as seen in 1998. Enemies are able to chase the player from one room to another upon detection. There is an achievement in the game titled 'Master of Unlocking'. This is a reference to character Barry Burton's notorious line in the original Resident Evil (1996), which has become the subject of various memes and parodies since its release. Although physically absent the distant sound of crows can be heard when Leon and Ada go down the short alleyway that is right next to the door Kendo the gun shop owner and his daughter went into in the cutscene. The zombie alligator sequence was almost cut from the game, but the studio decided to leave it in due to its popularity among fans of the original. Introduces the red and blue herb combination, which not only cures poisoning, but also makes the player temporarily invulnerable to it. It will also increase the defense for a while. Except for the first build up, the game has no loading screens. Ada was the character that took the developers the longest to get right, as they tried to figure out which appearance would fit the character. They decided to base her appearance on that of a classic spy The license plate on Claire's motorcycle reads "J2198", which is another reference to the US release of the original game (January 21, 1998). The likeness of Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield are based on models Eduard Badaluta and Jordan Mcewen respectively. Mcewen was uncredited for her work, as her modeling agency didn't want her name to be revealed. However, she confirmed her involvement in the project on Instagram, saying that she went to Osaka in 2016 to work with Capcom. When the player defeats the final form of G, the cutscene shows a closeup of its eye for a second. This is a nod to the menu screen of Resident Evil 2 (1998). Despite being fan-favourites, giant moths, spiders and zombie crows are absent in this remake. According to the producers, they were dropped as they would've clashed with the realistic tone the developers were aiming for.

Excellent video! I really liked it! But only one thing: RE2 REMAKE was not 20 years in the making. It was never near of vaporware status as The Last Guardián or FF XV.
If they would make all these items you picked up as Leon dissappear, they would still have to spawn new ones as Claire and it still wouldn't make too much sense because these weren't there before.
Not to mention that they would essentially have to double up on the enemies, puzzles, and items in order to compensate; otherwise, my B runs would feature either an empty and solved RPD or an RPD brimming with zombies and none of the items.

Imagine a Terminator style horror game where you have to escape a t 800 that behaves like mr x
That would be f-ing awesome!
I was telling my wife the exact thing. They have all these mods out so I know they could pull off a great Terminator game like this.
Like Alien: Isolation?
Needs to happen. It would be dark, gritty and scary like the Alien Isolation game. That would be an amazing game. I’d love to see a terminator game like this
Watching this back in 2021. Its been maybe a year since i played this game. And the MOMENT Mr. X popped up, i got chills. If you haven't played this game yet, you owe it to yourself, folks.

Raccoon City didnt just die, it was murdered
Wrong channel for that statement.
I loved this game. Only issue I had was that the A and B story's had you do the same puzzles and almost the same bosses
The second run only gave some tweaks to the storyline.
I think that was more about making it a bit more interesting if you wanted to play the game again. Which I wanted.
That was because it was in the original. The story doesn't really play out the same because its implied the a story happens slightly different
Same puzzles but they had different solutions.
The reason much of that went unexplained is because it would disrupt the story with exposition for an event that has nothing to do with the player character. It's a good choice. If you want to know more, it's in the notes you find. The mayor's daughter is there to entice you into reading those notes, for example. But a long winded explanation into what happened to her by the Chief or whatever would just cause the player to ask, "Why are you telling me this."
I'm also baffled as to why people keep expecting to be able to "explore more of Raccoon City" in RE2 when that was one of the major differences that separated RE2 and RE3.

2 minutes and 30 seconds?!?!?!?!?!
"In RE4 the tank controls were gone"
No they are not. Its still tank controls.
Was confused about that myself don't get why people hate on tank controls
well tank controls are not only clunky, they’re slow, and sometimes camera angles make movements absolutely wonky, especially if you’ve never used then before.
@@JonoMaiaBR when you get the hang of it RE4 feels pretty fuild,RE5 somehow managed to feel tankier than 4
@@conorallen100 Tank controls work really well with the RE franchise's early titles.
"Where's Brad?!?" lol
Just teasin.
This is a legit criticism dude.
You aren't wrong though.
Would love to see you speed run this on sbb. One go. Get the popcorn.
If he does, it has to be with Brett

This game is art. It's a modern masterpiece. I keep going back to it. I have 15 RE games, but this is the one I play the most.
I've never played a single game in this series, nor am I particularly interested in it. But this was one of my favorite videos you've ever made. I really love this style of video, and I can tell how much you and your team put into it. I hope you're proud of this one, you should be!
Is it me or is the production value/design and cinematography especially great this video?
Resident evil 2 remake is probably one of my favorite games of 2019
Loved this game, went above and beyond to complete it myself.
RE4 had tank controls, right? Unless I misremembered.
Yeah it did.
Tank controls with the camera placed behind Leon. There was a mod that made it fixed camera and yup, definitely tank controls.
RE2 Reimagining does not have tank controls.
Yeah, and they pulled it off perfectly because the entire game was designed around it.
Both RE4&5 had tank controls, it’s just that the camera perspective was always behind the character.

True

@Starscream91 You need to experience being a game developer to find out why they didn't do that in re 2 remake with the new RE Engine
the source engine has done it, im sure most modern engines can.

You can use the infinite knife in a hardcore s+ run
was gonna say this, glad I scrolled through the comments first so I didn't comment a redundancy.
jakal yes you can, but it isn’t the biggest game changer, if you use it for a counter attack you will feel the need to retrieve it or sacrifice it, and there are plenty of knifes on the run, from my experience I recommend you use it in the beginning of the game to kill the zombies that are close to the shotgun/grenade launcher room and damage G1 with it, after that just use it like a regular knife
@@josetomascamposrobledano4618 well yeah that of course. I'm only saying it cause he said that infinite weapons couldn't be used for the hardcore s+ runs. It's allowed to be used and not affect the ranking is all I was trying to say.

the fact that if you shoot. the tyrant will hear it and puts you in a state of mind where you are always in danger
Nope
Unmatchable level and encounter design, enemies are also creative and scary (regeneradors doesn’t ring a bell to you ?)
You can easily run out of ammo if you aren’t carefull enough.
Well, it's not that hard to get S+.
"It's a weapon, it's very powerful especially against living things"
This was such a super surreal episode since I still remember when Resident Evil 2 was the first new episode of when the show...I don't wanna say changed, or was rebooted, but became something different. I guess this video was almost gonna be a New Game+ episode, huh? Amazing work, Jirard. Hard to believe that first RE2 video was already 4 years ago.
Hey not to change the subject or anything because I love re games but I keep watching your intro like a million times and I love it.
I was so hoping that the devs could have had the original RE2 as DLC, but that has yet to happen.
"He even puts Nemesis to shame"
Hahaha, oh please, take a moment to think about how much worse Mr. X is now compared to how he used to be.. Now think about how much more terrifying Nemesis will be in the remake of 3.
NO ONE and NOTHING, compares to the monstrosity of Nemesis.
DMX better be working on a new themesong for my boi Nemesis.
Too bad nemesis is only a boss/ scripted encounter in Re:3
Luke Webster listen I’m from the future and I’m telling you, you’re gonna be disappointed
Like milk. Aged like fucking milk.
nemesis is utter garbage, and Mr.X WAS ALWAYS NERFED. And the fact that many raged quit RE2R just bc of him proves my point. This is how Real Mr X is gonna hunt u down idiot. th-cam.com/video/AmSH3-1V188/w-d-xo.html
They decided to base her appearance on that of a classic spy
The license plate on Claire's motorcycle reads "J2198", which is another reference to the US release of the original game (January 21, 1998).
Heard about the trouble with TH-cam and this video, just wanted to pop in and say this is an amazing video and really shows how much hard work you guys put into your videos. Keep on keeping on. ❤️
Awesome storytelling. Absolutely love this game regardless of hours poured into playing it
"Maybe she should be in shock"
You mean like... Being "happy go lucky" in the middle of a life changing crisis?
You kniw THE EXACT SORT OF SHOCK SOMEONE WITH HER PERSONALITY WOULD BE IN?
this game made me so paranoid I thought motorcycles driving by my house where zombies growling at my window
Wow, I was not anticipating such a change to the presentation to the show. Fit the vibe of the game so well too. Great work!
This is the second BEST remake of a videogame ever made. First one being Resident evil 1 Remake LOL. Amazing...
Excellent video! I really liked it! But only one thing: RE2 REMAKE was not 20 years in the making. It was never near of vaporware status as The Last Guardián or FF XV.
I’ve never played a RE game before
RE2 Remake finally changed that
If they would make all these items you picked up as Leon dissappear, they would still have to spawn new ones as Claire and it still wouldn't make too much sense because these weren't there before.
Not to mention that they would essentially have to double up on the enemies, puzzles, and items in order to compensate; otherwise, my B runs would feature either an empty and solved RPD or an RPD brimming with zombies and none of the items.
Just watching the review in the dark had me pulling my feet away from the edge of the bed. You brought the atmosphere fantastically.
I really loved the format of this video. It's a little different than normal and I"m so into it!
