Out of all characters they gave Thelma the short end of the stick. I mean the girl could professionally dance, act, write scripts, lead protests etc. Instead they just made her the typical housewife.. very dissatisfying.
That's because the audience was more interested in JJ. The show became " the JJ show" and the mainly focused on his aspirations. Also this is the 70s where women had just earned the right to get a credit card in their name so......

I remember this episode. I watched it with my Grandma. I was appalled that this is what Thelma’s life came to when in earlier seasons she wanted to be a doctor. My Grandma told me that sadly many Black women back in the day had marriages like this that and never lived up to their full potential.

Please do more on Good Times it’s one of my favorite shows to binge watch. I’m binging it now. Thelma Evans Anderson was pretty much reduced down to Keith’s wife and ultimately a stay at home mom when her character from the start was promoting liberation for black women from education to equal rights to career choices. All of that came apart she started working at the boutique when she was in the middle of college… did she graduate from college..I don’t think she did when the whole time the family made sure Thelma and Michael continued their education. We can assume Michael graduated but Thelma deserved a career.

James would have laid Keith out. Also, I blame Norman Lear for this. Because I won't doubt back then black folk back then were also calling out why JJ and Michael didnt check Keith for that. Heck, even his friend should have handled him.
I had wished that Michael would've went after Keith more forcefully, as I know JJ would've only pretended to fight him knowing he'd pulverized him, but yes, if James was there, Keith would've been dangling out the window. He'd protect his daughter at all costs!
