The show was never the same after John Amos left, and after I found out why Norman Lear fired him, I respected him even more.

@@butters395 Yep... That's exactly why she left the show. She said that when they asked her to return to the show to save it, she told them that the only way that she would, is if the writers would stop having Jimmie acting like a clown, and they agreed. You'll notice in the last season when Esther came back, Jimmie didn't yell DY-NO-MITE once.
James Evans was a good man. He only blew up because he couldn't get the breaks in life that he deserved. We need fathers like James Evans to keep these kids who's out here running wild.

If you watch the full episode about Cletus, the way James handled him is exactly how he’d easily overwhelm of Gen Z. However, in the end I know he’d still give warm love and kindness if you earned it. Like in many episodes, James met almost everyone with kindness unless you acted foolish

I like James Evans. He is what every father should be. There are some TV fathers who really discpline their children especially boys. Boys really need their fathers to see what's like to be a real man. George Jefferson is also a good father figure. Mike Brady on the Brady Bunch also, Carl Winslow on Family Matters also and more. Back during the 50's 60's and 70's fathers were in their homes raising their children. Now they have gone missing like they don't even care.
