Question of the Week: Why are you watching this video?!? Shouldn't you be playing DA:I? Follow us on Facebook | Facebook.com/ShoddyCast Follow us on Twitter | twitter.com/ShoddyCast
My roommate just got the game, and he gets first crack at it. I haven't even played Awakening or DA II, much less Inquisition. The Fade is probably the most interesting part of Dragon Age's lore. It bears an interesting similarity to the Astral Plane of other mythos, but has elements of the afterlife in it as well.
So, does anyone believe what the chantry has to say about the fade and the golden city? My personal theory is that it was tainted on purpose. The imprisoned magister from the legacy dlc claims the city was already black when they entered. Might be some kind of magical warfare that went wrong.
Whitie's Reviews I wasn't even aware that there is a lack of doubters. One of the sisters even says that they altered the chant of light for political and cultural reasons.
I remember reading a theory that the Golden City was or had some form of connect to Arlathan, and in the last stand it was the elves that created the taint. Well it went along those lines anyway.
***** That is certainly one possibility. Turn their gods against them and let them kill each other while the ancient elves wait in hiding. They could mob up the remaining humans and reclaim their old empire afterwards or maybe they just did it out of revenge and desperation.
The chantry has nothing to back up what it's saying (besides MAYBE the sacred ashes but even then...) although this is a fantasy world full of demons and dragons and mages so it is plausible. I just look at it from my current character's perspective. My warden was a chantry-brainwashed circle Mage but my hawke was definitely atheist, even if it's just because of what they say about apostates like bethany. My inquisitor is most likely going to be agnostic, given that he is a qunari Mage, who is resistant to religion in general (the qun doesn't treat their mages well) but is beginning to think those calling him andraste's herald may be right.
I wonder if LadyAshe will write a second season with you guys. I loved this season, I hope there will be extra videos with what we've learned with Dragon Age Inquisition.
raulprima They're required to note if it was paid for by a company somewhere, that's part of advertisement laws. I don't see an EA symbol anywhere in the video or something stating that EA had anything to do with these videos aside from publishing the game.
I definitely hope you'll make more of these around the time that the next game comes out. Because, wowie- DAI sure did disprove and add to stuff, especially Elven lore, Tevinter Lore, magic, and the Fade. These videos really did help, though.
I have a wonder: is the ability to dream (that is, to enter the fade incorporeally) an absolute prerequisite of the ability to wield magic? There appears to be some contradiction surrounding Qunari mages; this episode of DA:I lore states that the Qunari claim to not dream at all, whereas the Dragon Age Wiki page for 'Qunari' states that the Qunari claim they do not dream, 'as Humans or Elves do' (what this actually means, I am unsure). Furthermore, the Dragon Age Wiki page for 'Mage' defines the Fade as the realm where, 'Humans, Qunari, and Elves visit when they dream.'. So, perhaps the fact that Dwarves cannot dream makes no difference to their inability to wield magic, but instead, it is their natural resistance to Lyrium. Either that, or the Qunari are lying.
I like to think that the power to wield magic is an elven trait, a trait that was lost when breeding between humans happened, which caused the quickening. there are qunari mages but they are not commonly seen in the fade, probably due to their culture restricting them.
***** Hmm, I'm not sure. I wouldn't think that culture affects one's capacity to dream. The subject matter within the dream, perhaps. Ultimately though, a dream, by nature, is abstract filler, so I'd say Qunari dreams possess the same level of distinctiveness in themselves, than each individual dream, of any race, does to each other.
I hope they make a DA game were i can be a villain, like play a tevinter magister open up the fade watch the world burn and recreate the old empire on top of the ashes...i've saved the world so many times in video games i think its time i get to be the "bad" guy (loved poisoning the water supply in fallout 3) well bad for everyone else good for tevinter.
bad guy? nonsense! by spreading and restoring the glorious Tevinter empire you benefit all peoples! only under the banner of the magisters can we move forward to the future! why our advancements in magical technology will grow in leaps and bounds thanks to our....uh... fresh resources! only then will be be able to put an end to those commie bastard qunari menace once and for all! for the betterment of all thedas of course!
***** My theory is that the Black City was a prison, probably a prison for the Forgotten Ones (from the Elven Pantheon). The Magisters were tricked into going to it, and I suppose the City was booby trapped, it's corruption being some sort of failsafe measure, only it ended up creating the Darkspawn, and probably releasing The Forgotten Ones (which could be the cause for all the chaos and war that has happened in nearly 2 millenia after the Darkspawn first appeared).
Does anyone else think that all the voices for this series sounds kind of robotic in nature, or is it just weirdness on my end making it sound like that.
Fade and physical realm where one, some event happens which elves call the quickening eleven gods get trapped in their semi-mortal forms the dragons. They enact a plan to reverse the quickening as Gods they can see far in the future and wait patiently as they start using mortal puppets to bring the Fade and physical realm back as one.
Sten went to the fade if you allow him to follow you. That could be the only time such a thing could of happened under the influence of so much magic untamed
What was that weird shot where the big bearded Templar turned himself into an elvish woman? That was trippy. It looked like DA:O, but I've never seen it. Anyone know?
1. yes, but there are things you should consider. firstly, would Tevinter want to stop it? I mean, it's a pretty good way of cataloging demons and spirits. also, any trained dreamer would be able to use their incredible powers on the world of thedas as well as the fade. opportunity Tevinter would definitely use to their advantage. secondly, the qunari would probably demand that everyone converted to the qun for their help. otherwise, they would just wait until the breach effected them as well. 2. can't you help? I mean, your pretty much an expert on inter-planetary travel through magic. also, your staff-magic is f***'in awesome!
firstoftheoutcast 1: All good points. 2: After the "demonic" incursion into Edolas all our magic has been saped away so it's impossible for me or any one to travel from Edolas, at least for the moment.
Mystogan Edolas 1. thank you 2. I forgot! don't worry, i'm going to research the breach between worlds that is currently in Thedas, and figure out how to regain your magic. the fade has an infinite amount (since it's made from people's dreams)
so despite being in a parallel universe now withought magic rendering you unable to travel from it any longer, you can still use the internet, and communicate as such? ...... proof that the internet is magic, lol. also i would totally watch a spin off series where erza reads fan-fics on the internet.
i am quite confused why you didn't mention anything at all about origin's arcane warriors? and their weird ability straight from the game to be able to tip into the fade and the real world by their very own will? I mean the highest leveled arcane warriors get the ability fade shroud , I know it's only passive but you didn't even talk about it
+fukerwolf 190 EHHH kinda.where as the warp is constantly writhing with daemons and chaotic power.the fade is calm on occasion, and can visited without the threat of immediate insanity.took into account that i said immediate insanity.you still go bat shit if you're there to long.
I'm guessing the golden city is supposed to be heaven and the maker is god,the ones who tainted the golden city were like angels turned into darkspawn after being cast out. it just seems like the chantries religion closely resembles that of Christian religion🤔 a little bit but that's just my opinion.
C Jones Hmm, a possible explanation. Still, Sten's former companions, or rather, spirits imitating them are seen. So I'm sure some mages would see spirits taking the forms of qunari and mistaking them for real. Also, there are Qunari mages. THEY must go to the Fade, right?
me too. In addition i like my games being in one place (steam). But as much as it pains me to do so, i really want the game so i will have to create an origin account...
Origin is really not that bad, Ive never had any problems with it, it sometimes has free game etc. The actual bad thing is Uplay, i lost all my save games twice, there are alot of problems with multiplayer in games and/or games in general, and it crashes alot too.
Don't let Origin hold you back; it's really not that bad. I feel that my gaming experience is much less encroached upon by Origin, than by Steam. Just look to Origin, as the considerably less annoying (and less popular) first cousin of Steam.

What if I already have? ;)
I don't have it. And the video is more important anyway.
Answer of the week:
Asynchronous release dates suck, gotta wait until the 21st here.
Tuberuser187 HA! i have to wait till the 20th... xD
I have to wait for it in the mail and I have school now.

Thank you!!! Someone else is doubting the chantry.

Just got DA:I yesterday after school! Thank You ShoddyCast for a wonderful series.
Cole could probably tell us about "the true nature of the fade" but whether people would be able to understand what he is saying is another issue.
it seems to scare the shit outta him actually
I hope you do more DA lore even after the final video. I'm loving it. Maybe you guys and Ash could do Mass Effect too?
I second the mass effect lore series.
I can not think of a better way to start my Tuesday!
I wonder if LadyAshe will write a second season with you guys. I loved this season, I hope there will be extra videos with what we've learned with Dragon Age Inquisition.
Teddie Sage Agreed. Also, with the release of "The World of Thedas: Vol. 2" There's quite a bit more info available to us.
Why do you call it Dragon Age Inquisition Lore instead of Dragon Age Lore ?
WRONG.
raulprima This is not paid for by EA. It's paid for by viewer support a la Patreon.
raulprima

***** is right if it is paid then it is illeagal to not clearly show it.
raulprima This is not affiliated nor endorsed by EA or Bioware. Fully funded by those who contributed to the Patreon.

They forget that Sten a Qunari can entered the fade with the warden
He was dragged into it though by the demon.
Nicore Meaning they can enter though. Dwarves are physically incapable of passing the veil.
Silverizael Well, Dwarves can be dragged through by a spell as well. Oghren can be in DA: Awakening at least, though he freaks out
Nicore Still in the fade demon or no demon
Abigail Ford Varric from da2 as well.
05:07 why is there a cross between Rosie O Donell and Susan Boyle in a DA game?
I was waiting for this so much! :)
I just got the new dragon age today!! Fitting new episode
solas claims to have seen quanri in the fade
Honestly, who really knows how the fade actually works.
not even the spirits
i can't wait for this game to come out!!!
Good videos. Love the lore.

Annis sorry. i was speaking of genetics, if the qunari dream differently then perhaps they have different magic.
When a mage is made Tranquil, they lose their emotions and ability to dream. I'd imagine both are necessary for magic.
dont be ridiculous, of course communists cant dream. Tevinter 4 life
I'm waiting for the 20th.... Stoked but also sad that it's this close, and yet so far away
With VPN you should be able to play it now
but there is a chance, that your account gets a ban
yeah... not going to do that :D Considered it, for a second tops. Not worth it ;)
Matwok
i am considering it, but...it is just ONE day (stil loading btw..my conection sucks shit 240kb/s takes some time for 24 GB)
Wow.. Same here! I can't wait!
Can't play the game while at work so I watch your videos instead! :)
What?! It's almost over? Noooo!
The Fade scares the living crap out of me. lol
Downloading DAI now on my xbox one :D Im so hype.

Well... there was that Darkspawn Chronicles DLC for DAO where you raze Denerim.
Then the Black City is still a mystery. I would love to see what is like.
***** My theory is that the Black City was a prison, probably a prison for the Forgotten Ones (from the Elven Pantheon). I have to say it. I love you.

Just one more episode to go.
Sten went to the fade if you allow him to follow you. That could be the only time such a thing could of happened under the influence of so much magic untamed
Also ohgren the dwarf could have followed you and varric from DA 2
i think they were directly referring to going to the fade whilst dreaming, not just travel in general
What was that weird shot where the big bearded Templar turned himself into an elvish woman? That was trippy. It looked like DA:O, but I've never seen it. Anyone know?
+The Learned Soldier it was most likely the second game if you haven't seen it in origins.
+James Adams No, it's the wrong animation style. It's origins or an expansion.
Do you know the what outro song is? I would like to have it
Sounds like Leliana.
It's called I am the one. It's the end credit song from dragon age origins
I have a question (OMG SPOILERS)
in dragon age origins witch hunt dlc where exactly does morrigan go when she goes through the eluvian?
astral plane lol, like a dnd bag of holding XD thats my guess anyway
I guess we'll find out in DA:I maybe
But I love your lore shoddy.
I think Tewinter and the Qun are the only people who can ward of a fade incursion.
1. yes, but there are things you should consider. firstly, would Tevinter want to stop it? where are you guys based in?
i am quite confused why you didn't mention anything at all about origin's arcane warriors? and their weird ability straight from the game to be able to tip into the fade and the real world by their very own will?

The Fade, great lore, worst levels design.
I know...
on origins I was like the fuck is this...oh shit a lazy bear demon with riddles...OK this...is ...interesting
Hope you guys are joking.
+Christian Cristof Fuck I hate the fade in DAO, Awakening's fade level was better but damn, the fade is hell
but...i love riddles
Well, my iron bull visited the fade with me
but is this chantry based or normal lore
So the warp from warhammer?
+fukerwolf 190 EHHH kinda.where as the warp is constantly writhing with daemons and chaotic power.the fade is calm on occasion, and can visited without the threat of immediate insanity.took into account that i said immediate insanity.you still go bat shit if you're there to long.
plot twist dragon age takes place after mass effect on ...earth...
I wish there was any evidence but noo probably not
+8bit Lost and massa effect happened after us. And LOTR happened before us.
Must...have...Inquisition. So frickin' bad. And we have to wait till Friday...*sniff*...
so after this what is next mass effect, dark souls what
I'm guessing the golden city is supposed to be heaven and the maker is god,the ones who tainted the golden city were like angels turned into darkspawn after being cast out. it just seems like the chantries religion closely resembles that of Christian religion🤔 a little bit but that's just my opinion.
ガブリエル Gabriel 応じます Carter Christendom is the easiest to base lore off of. It's "lore" that westerners are close to and can relate to.
Where the hell did they get the idea that qunari are never seen in the Fade? Sten went to the Fade. Who wrote this nonsense?
***** Sten was sucked directly into the Fade under special circumstances--in that case you can go to the Fade as a dwarf, as well.
C Jones
Hmm, a possible explanation. Still, Sten's former companions, or rather, spirits imitating them are seen. So I'm sure some mages would see spirits taking the forms of qunari and mistaking them for real. Also, there are Qunari mages. THEY must go to the Fade, right?
whait dwarves dont dream?
not gonna buy inquisition i refuse to make an origin account
me too. In addition i like my games being in one place (steam). But as much as it pains me to do so, i really want the game so i will have to create an origin account...

to me origin is yet another EA moneyfarm i want none of it
Yamifira chosen juan Nowadays, everything is a money farm. It's no longer a matter of, 'what can x do for me?', but instead, 'what can I do for x?'.
shoddy man..what happend your like lagging behind.
the fade in origins- shitty design
the fade in origins dlc awaking- shitty design
the fade in inquisition much better design
only gripe i have on DA: inquisition is....Plastic hair! *sighs heavily*
no game is perfect
if you have it on Pc I'm sure someone will mod that eventually.
i hope so...its pretty unrealistic but the rest of the game is amazing!
it doesnt look so ridiculous on maximum settings ...... to damn high for my computer though XD
Second
