    Disclaimer: Lore is subject to rumor found in the game universe.
    It is the Second Era, year 854, and a newly crowned Tiber Septim sits on the Ruby Throne, in the Province of Cyrodiil, which he claimed through right of conquest. General Talos is no more, Tiber Septim left that name behind him the day his King was assassinated, and he ascended to the Imperial throne.

      @@emiliamarsh7259 Could be done much better if the political history of each province is taking into account, say how High Rock wasn’t one united province so you could have your choice of kingdom and first have to unite your native High Rock before thinking of expanding into other provinces

    • @erwin21381
      @erwin21381 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It's pretty black and white to me, but that's probably because I support Talos. Same with the real world. Talos good, everyone else baaaaad. Hitler bad, everyone else goooood. Pretty straightforward to me. XDDDD

    • @ExplodingViper777
      @ExplodingViper777 10 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Erwin Dedić Well, it's all about perspective. To a Nazi, Hitler was a chill dude. To an altmer, Talos was the biggest dick in a barrel of horse dildos. I don't mean to say that the altmer are Nazis, I personally love the altmer. However, it... Well, it fit the analogy and junk.
      Personally, I think that Talos wasn't a good guy. A brilliant man, yes. A good warrior? Definitely. A god? Now that's where I draw the line.
      I'm not going to argue his divinity; I have no opinion on that one, because I know nothing about it. But, imagine this: What if you were a Jew and Hitler was regarded as a god, and everyone around you worshiped him?

    • @Cossu0l
      @Cossu0l 10 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Doc Ethereal The thing is that Talos did become a god, entirely. In Morrowind, when going to fight Dagoth Ur, if you stop by the Ghost Gate, inside you see an Imperial, who gives you a coin.Only you can see him, and if you bring the coin to a certain temple, i don't remember, a priest says that it was Talos. Wich is a proof of his divinity.

    • @erwin21381
      @erwin21381 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Doc Ethereal That's what I was saying. It's all about opinions. And my opinion is black and white. :)

    • @erwin21381
      @erwin21381 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matheus Cossuol
      To be fair, that was never confirmed. The priest only says that it was most likely Talos. It is her belief, but whether she is correct I cannot say. No one can actually 100% confirm that. So it's not really proof. I myself have no opinion on whether that was Talos or not, but I do believe that Talos is a god. :)

    Everyone should read "The Arcturian Heresy". It gives a VERY different twist on Talos' history, and in my opinion it's probably more correct. TES lore is however purposefully written to be up to interpretation until the games canonize something, just like real history is written by unobjective sources, which we have to take for granted until we have archeological evidence either way.

    Talos did do right
    He only attacked 4 provinces, and nibbled at the borders of a 5th. He did not spill as much blood as people say.
    Had he not took tamriel, more blood would be spilled via the kingdoms at each other's throats, or someone else would have conquered tamriel anyway.
    And the dovahkin, Talos or no, was destined to conquer tamriel.

    • @popescutitus6225

      I doubt it, in order to make a successful movie that takes place in a fictional fantasy world it must have a plot that not only satisfies the people that are allready fans of the said universe but also be easy to understand for the people who never even heard of it before, otherwise it will just end up like the Warcraft movie. I'm afraid that the story of Talos requires you to allready know lots of stuff about the elder scrolls universe in order to make sense of it.

    In the video at 12:02, the author says that the way inwhich the Numidium was powered was lost to history. No it actually wasn't.
    If anyone played Daggerfall, you will find out that it was the Underking (Zurin Arctus) sends a message to the player:
    "Centuries ago, Tiber Septim ruled the land and forged an empire with great Numidium. The secret of Numidiums's power lies in its heart, carried within the Mantella. It is the heart of Tiber Septim's battlemage. It is my heart. It is my Mantella. It is my Totem. It belongs to me, and to none other. I have won and lost an empire.
    I have no desire to tamper further with mortal affairs. I have in my possession Necromancer's Amulet, one of the world's greatest artifacts. You may have it in exchange for the Totem.
    My most loyal agent will await your arrival in Graywold of Wayrest, in an Order of the Hour."
    Underking.
    Anything that occurs in the game is considered to be factual therefore this clearly shows that it was Zurin Arctus who sacrificed his soul to power the numidium. Zurin became a lich and his soul remained in the mantella.
    This explains how he lived so long without his heart.
    Zurin Arctus along with Wulfhaarth are known as the Shezarine. (Avatars of the hero diety of mankind known as Lorkhan) Talos was also a Shezarine.
    The mantella mimicked the power of the heart of lorkhan when it was powered by a soul of a shezarrine.
    Talos was such as great shezarine that he became a divine himself.

    • @pendragonxt3674
      @pendragonxt3674 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      However, the question is this.
      What will you do? Will you give the mantella to the underking or will you slay him and keep the mantella for yourself?

    I'd like to see something after this going into the metaphysics. I have a feeling we'll get no mention of Talos achieving CHIM, no Towers and no crazy Kirkbride stuff about godheads and the 9th Era. There's so much insane stuff you could talk about, it's what sets Elder Scrolls apart from so much else instead of this cool, but typical high fantasy stuff.

      ***** Talos Stormcrown and Tiber Septim is one and the same, this we know... The god Talos is as you say multiple people but not necessarily exactly three. The most prominent theory is that Talos the god is actually Lorkhan of which (amongst others like Plinal Whitstrake, The Underking , the champion of cyrodil and the dragonborn of skyrim) Tiber Septim is belived to have been an avatar of... but most of that is simply speculation

    The Empire had to submit to the Nazi's, whoops, I mean Aldmiri Dominion, in order to continue their reign in Tamriel. Did it worth losing Hammerfell and half of Skyrim due to the effects of the White-Gold Concordat? Even tough Titus Mede II could not forsee the consequences of this act, he still should have fought the Thalmor until at least a status quo could happen.

    • @AK48smoker

      bollocks, hammerfell refused the WGC and the dominion failed to conquer them so it would surely have been a decisive win had he gone for it.
      im more curious about titus mede becoming emperor... 'cos i read that he was made emperor for declaring war on the empire by successfully conquering the imperial city? the dominion did that and they were not just given the empire.

      AK48smoker I think that was one of Titus Mede II's ancestors - Titus Mede I. He conquered the imperial city soon after the oblivion crisis when the empire was missing an emperor - I believe he did it with around 1000 men.

    Talos never conquered Argonia, he only took small part of coasts and part where Argonia starts. Argonians were to much for great Talos and after many failed battels to take over Argonia he gave up and left Argonia alone. No one even conquered Argonia not even Daedras, Argonions raped Daedras alone without any help of other races and Daedra generals had to close the gates to avoid 100% rape from them.

    So this is actually much more literal than just people "declaring him god".
    Because Talos was infanct Hjalti Early-Beard, Ysmir Wulfharth and Zurin Arctus, all of them are Shezarrines, mortal incarnations of Lorkhan, or Shor as he's known in Nord culture. Hjalti made Zurin Arctus use his heart to create the Mantella, because he's a Shezarrine and he's esentially Lorkhan, the Mantella could empower the Numidium, which is supposed to operate with the power of the Heart of Lorkhan from the Red Mountain. The problem is, we dont know if Zurin Arctus gave his heart willingly, Mannimarco claims that Arctus was betrayed by Hjalti and his soul remained in his body becoming the Underking, although this being could also be Ysmir Wulfharth, because he was also betrayed by Hjalti.
    Only after the death of the Underking is when Talos was born, with all three souls now combined they obtain such a great power that its capable of mantling Lorkhan's throne in the Pantheon.

    Talos is Hjalti Early Beard, Wulfharth and Zurin Arctus. All three are Shezzarines. Talos most likely became a god when the Warp in the West occurred and that's when the enantiomorph became efficient. Arctus ripped out the soul of Wulfharth by Hjaltis orders. Like Trinimac ripped out the heart of Lorkhan by Auriels orders. Or how Mora pierced Miraak on behalf of the Dragonborn. It's a mythic echo and Talos took Lorkhan's place in the mythic upon death. All of Mundus now runs on the TalOS.

      Think about it like this! Christianity and Islam (Muslims) have their own respective "God" right? And don't they say in each of their holy books to respect, love, and care for each other? Even those that are not the same as them? Other humans and living beings? The answer would be yes, right?
      But, if that is yes, then why are people bombing and murdering each other in the name of God? How come so many years ago, famous war leaders like Napoleon stated that God was on their side and waged war to conquer other's countries and their people?
      That really can't be answered, it's just the way humans are, and it's the way we will always be, forever. It will never change, it didn't change 3000 years ago and it won't change now or any time soon. And in this retrospect, Skyrim's story about Stormcloaks and Imperials Civil War, can be treated as an analogy (metaphor) to the WARS that are happening as I type this message; The wars that are happening right now.
      *TL;DR* If that's confusing, I'll use a very easy *example*. Just think about how come ISIS is bombing innocent people in the name of their god, the god who said to love and care for one another, even those who don't share their beliefs...
      I bet I just blew your mind now. And who says video games can't teach you about real life...

    According to the Blade's book: The Atlas of Dragons, there is a reference to a dragon called "Nahfahlaar" (meaning Fury For Clear, or Clear Fury). It's possible that Nahfahlaar is the same dragon as Nafaalilargus. This is compounded by the fact that Nahfahlaar in the book is said to have been constantly allying himself with kings and kingdoms for a certain amount of time, making it difficult for the Blades to kill him. His fate is left out of the book, which further fuels the suspicion that Nahfahlaar is the same dragon as Nafaalilargus; and that Nafaalilargus is just a cyrodiilic version of Nahfahlaar.

    • @Mandemon1990
      @Mandemon1990 10 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Or, if you had actually watched the video, he didn't. Oh sure, he did fight, but in the end, it was not military that made Tamriel bend it's knee. Imperials? Already accepted him as the king. Nords? Pledged themselves willingly. Bretons? Didn't really put a resistance and quickly assimilated. Redguard? Signed a treaty after several failed attempts by Talos. Argonians? Only "lost" outer marshes, still lived free in inner marshes. Which are untouched by Imperial Legions. Dunmer? Again, a treaty. Khajit? Once again, treaties. In short, only ones who got conquered purely by force were Altmer, Bosmer and Brettons.
      Talos brought peace and stability to entire realm of Tamriel, to point where each race was held equal in the eyes of law. I say that's pretty good job.

    • @Mandemon1990

    We hope everyone can let the light of Talos into their hearts. All hail the Fox King, harbinger of change, enforcer of unity, wise dream-making ruler of both Atmora and Tamriel. Tiber was the real deal. Like Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, Constantine, Charlemagne, William the Conqueror. Tiber Septim shook things up and knit together the pieces as they fell, creating an empire of unity.
    Probably one of the coolest characters in TES lore. The guy could blow castle doors open with his voice. What's the most impressive is his conquests where he DIDN'T have to fight. He subdued the Nords, Bosmer and Argonians basically without a fight. He elevated the Orcs from obscurity, gaining their trust and loyalty. Then he gained 'The Brass God' through diplomacy, from the Dunmer, which conquered on his behalf. Fucking legendary.
    Imagine if Dagoth Ur actually got Numidium up and running again? He could have easily conquered Morrowind, maybe more. I'm glad I stopped him, but I wish I could have completed Akulakhan and then would ride him into battle.

    Correction, ShoddyCast. This is another example of you showing favoritism for the Altmer and the Aldmeri Dominion. The navy of the Aldmeri Dominion was not immensely superior to the Imperial Navy, it was just slightly, the only reason why he cared about their navy is because he had to cross the sea in order to get to the Summerset Isles. I never understood why he had an inferior navy, because he had the Redguards and Nords fighting for him, races that are known seafarers, and the Redguard Navy is legendary as mentioned in the video. So I don't get that. Another thing you forgot to mention, is that Tiber Septim also used his military as well as the Numidium, the Numidium was more of a confirmation that he will win. The Altmer also did not have "advanced weaponry", lore never stated that. We know you love your Altmer, but please show less favoritism in your videos like you did in this one and the Altmer video, and be more professional than that.

    • @Jrock420blam
      @Jrock420blam 10 ปีที่แล้ว +36

      Most lore supports the Altmer having superior weaponry and navy, This is why he had so much trouble conquering them when they didn't have the huge armies and beast-gods of the Legion. Your hate of the mer is showing, remember this is just a game so you don't have to hate the elves, its fun to play along with the fantasy.

    • @kertaw48
      @kertaw48 10 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      I beg to differ.
      Description of an Altmer ship:
      "Made of crystal and solidified sunlight, with wings though they do not fly, and prows that elongate into swirling Sun-Birds, and gem-encrusted mini-trebuchets fit for sailing which fire pure aetheric fire, and banners, banners, banners, listing their ancestors all the way back to the Dawn. This is Old Mary at Water."
      Description of the Altmeri Navy:
      "As terrible as it was, it did force the Altmer to build a great navy to defend itself, and to this day, it is on the seas that the High Elves **excel** in combat."
      Emphasis on excel - to show superiority, surpass others. Without the Numidium, Tiber would have never managed to invade the Summerset Isles, having been at war with the Dominion since at least 2E 863 (and there's no indication that the Dominion even existed in 2E 896, since the 50 year Bosmeri treaty with the Altmer expired in 2E 880). Also, do mind that the Redguard navy was completely crushed at Hunding Bay. That's why Tiber was always interested in Dwemer artifacts, something that's seen in TESA: Redguard.
      As for ShoddyCast's professionalism... Try to compare his video on the Knahaten Flu with the article on UESP.

    • @richardjordan9245
      @richardjordan9245 10 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      kertaw48 I am not saying the Altmer don't have a strong navy. The Redguards just are the best at naval warfare on Tamriel, Tiber Septim used the Forebears and his Red Dragon to conquer Hammerfell.
      Also, can you link me to the website you got that quote of the description of the Altmeri ship from? I'd really like to show it to my lore group.

    • @kertaw48
      @kertaw48 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Richard Jordan Imperial Library - Michael Kirkbride's Posts. It's not official canon, but it is what Bethesda is working with, sort of like inside information.
      Also, I wrote the article on Tiber Wars on UESP (the one this video heavily took content from), and I found no indication that the Forebears helped the Imperials in any significant way, since they were pretty much on their dying breath by the time the Forebear Truce was made. The Forebears didn't help Tiber conquer Hammerfell; Tiber tricked them and once they allowed him to bring his troops in, he refused to leave. And even that was a fact the whole of Hammerfell held against the Forebears - they were widely seen as traitors (in TESA: Redguard, you even see them drinking themselves into stupor because of it).
      The same goes for Redguards' superiority to Altmer at naval warfare. I'd have to see a source that directly confirms that to believe it. I could even imagine them being superior sailors. But without the "technology" of Altmer...

    I'm happy to see that you included the inevitable Machiavellian speculation "Do the ends justify the means?" Sure I disagree with what the Thalmor are doing, but I totally see where they are coming from. It's hard for me to decide who's side I'm on in Tamriel really, throughout all of the history... which is great, because there's no clear "good guy" or "bad guy," like in real life

  • @juiceyginger189
    @juiceyginger189 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    So Talos forced his believes on every race by brutally killing them. Then since he was the victor, he rewrote history to make himself seem like the good guy..... gotcha.

      juiceyginger1 Pretty much, and It's one of the reasons to why the Thalmor want to destroy Talos.

    Huge respect for Argonia and Hammerfell they resisted talos and had to make an agreement to be partners. He didn't own them and even the greatest leader with a dragon huge dwemer bot and several armies decided to stay away.

      miller repin Not really, his tactics involved 'shout em down' or going the 'impossible route' because 'fuck you, dragonborn'. By the time he became a warlord his tactics were balanced out by numerous generals and advisers that told him when fighting wasn't worth it.

    • @millerrepin4452
      @millerrepin4452 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lightscribe225 That means several different generals a dragonborn a dragon several armies can't keep control of the argonians in their homeland and had to partner up with the redguards because they are bosses who can't be controlled for long

      No, they avoided Argonia because it was a disease filled hell hole that destroyed their supplies and wasn't worth the effort to subjugate the Argonians.
      Hammerfell entered a partnership only after the Imperials beat them, and then it was beating an errant general who got waaaay too cushy.

      Every Empire except the first Nordic one was controlled by the Imperials. And since he's talking about Tiber Septim, it's even more obvious that it's the "Imperial" Empire he's talking about.

      Definition of Imperial; that which relates to an empire, emperor, or the concept of imperialism.
      To refer to the Colovian empire, or any empire in the real world as an Imperial Empire is redundant, unnecessary, and all together poor use of grammar.
      It's like saying "Motorized Motor" or "electric electricity".

    Great episode.
    But it would be much better if instead of skipping questionable parts like creation of Mantella you would explain different theories. Where is Wulf? Where are relations to Shezzarine? What about his conflicts with Zurin and other people that were close to him in his conquest? Where is description of epic battle that happened with help of Numidium and distortions in time it caused?
    Again, I am just saying that if you would list theories instead of skipping them all together and saying "we don't know for sure" it would be much more informative.

    • @austinruffin868
      @austinruffin868 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd really like a list of theories for a lot of the stuff they cover too, but that's just my opinion.

    • @hyperbros96
      @hyperbros96 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well yeah. I mean Elder Scrolls much like real world history is not concrete at all, there are so many conflicting points of view and records in history, plus Elder Scrolls being a magical world has reality and time shifts. In my opinion it would be much better if they would go with multiple theory route in each episode, describing different records, opinions and theories that exist about events. What they do instead is go with the safest route and when they reach the part that has a lot of conflicting points about it they just skip it...but they probably do that because episodes would greatly increase in length if they would go into all details of TES lore, and there are lots of details. Alternative would be for them to link Wikia page links and ingame book names, basically sources of information at the end of each episode so that people can read into it more deeply if they wish to do so.
      Still amazing series, you guys are doing great work.

      Lorkhatosh
      This is one of the many aspects, why i love TES
      The story is not predetermined, so it's not clear what really happened and you can imagine your own story, what might happen and what the people had done
      This can change your full view about characters, factions, stories or even gods
      I totally agree with you, but i think in some cases it would be better, if they don't mention the theories, because the Hardcore-TES-Loreexperts would spam each other in the comments to death^^

    This was the single greatest empire Tamriel has ever known. Those who support the empire of the 4th era are traitors to the original empire. Under the iron fist of the elves men first lived in Tamriel, and the races of men must rule over the land. Those who desire freedom of persecution from the elves in the empire should have it, like the Stormcloaks. My point is is that this was the way it should be, not under a petty emperor who lets his people suffer, like in the late 4th era.

    • @NothingGoran
      @NothingGoran 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** Wrong. Check the lore of TES IV, especially pay atention to various Ayleid ruins, and to the back story of the Knights of the Nine DLC.
      Cyrodiil, for example, was ruled by Ayleids (Hearth-land High Elves) during the Meretic era.
      Men were used and enslaved by Ayleids for thousands of years, before St Alesia led the rebellion that ended the Ayleid domination in Cyrodiil and saw the rise of Alessian empire, the first Man empire in Cyrodiil.
      It was also during the St Alessia's rebelion that Pelineal(original Divine Crusader) killed Umaril, the Ayleid sorcerer-king.
      Ysgramor and 500 companions led the war against Snow Elves in Skyrim even before St. Alessia's rebelion started in Cyrodiil.
      The roots of Men vs Mer hatred go way before Talos.

    Just a quick note, if you go deeper into the lore, it can be said that "Tiber Septim" is really two people. Zurin Arctus & Hjalti decided to both appear as Septim, to make the "Two-Headed King" seem omnipresent. I like shoddycast, but it seems like they only just use the wiki.
