    From some of the in-game comments I'd heard I came up with this idea. What if the Qunari giants are what's left of the humans on the original human continent? We know that the continent of Thedas was originally only inhabited by Elves and Dwarves who mostly ignored each other and that the humans including the Tevinter Empire came from another continent. We also learn that people who have used the dragon-blood ritual pass on some of that power to their offspring. I think we also know that the original human continent had a lot more dragons than Thedas and that there were barbarian tribes that had figured out the dragon-blood ritual and who hunted dragons. My thought is that the Qunari Giants are descended from these human barbarians who introduced dragon blood into their lineages over and over until the dragon blood started to transform them into the Qunari Giants as we now know them. It's been suggested that this may have been on purpose; but we don't know who initiated the idea except that obviously they knew about the dragon-blood ritual and taught it to the native barbarian mages. The specialized breeding the Qunari do is in part to strengthen their draconic ancestry by breeding those with the strongest draconic blood with each other. The Qunari Giants adopted their culture because the dragon blood combined with the wildness of their barbarian cultures made them too wild and chaotic so they developed an extremely tightly structured culture to combat that chaotic nature.

    From my understanding (and from what I infered from ingame comments and refrences) I assume the Quanari are basically an ancient band of elven slave expiriments with Dragon blood?
    Or maybe not even elven slaves but maybe humans?
    Its not clear but they clearly were a "created" race bred specifically to be big and strong and as warlike as possible.

    • @TrueMastersandMorons
      @TrueMastersandMorons  4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Ya, the original race is unknown, but between comments from all over, (specifically Solas and Corypheus) it definitely seems like they, at least in their current form were engineered in some way. Presumably using Dragon blood or some other form of draconic essence?

      I think it’s worth noting Iron Bull’s taught fear of going mad without the Qun to guide him, something that may be related to their possible origin.

    I wonder why people take offence with the word 'Kossith' so much? Qun is a religion, and the people who believe it are Qunari, to my understanding. The majority of Qunari are Kossith yes? Those "horned-headed oxmen?" That's what their race is called. Is it the way it sounds? Is the name unlikable? Qunari sounds more elegant than Kossith... I can't wrap my head around this.

    • @TrueMastersandMorons
      @TrueMastersandMorons  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We've never seen anyone be offended, so we couldn't say. As far as we know you're right though, most of the citizenry that follows the Qun, by species percentage would be the Kossith. We think the major distinction is just that everyone, human, dwarf, elf, kossith, that follows the Qun, call themselves Qunari, as part of that whole "everyone is equal under the qun" thing. So distinctions like Kossith have fallen so far out of use as to be all but erased from their society. Presumably if the Qunari reached their goal of controlling everything, then a few centuries down the line there wouldn't even be distinctions between the other races, EVERYONE would just be called Qunari... hope that's useful?

    @8:10 Like the Inquisitor, if the player creates a Qunari character. Technically, Inquisitor Adaar is a "Vashoth, "or "grey one," rather than a Tal-Vashoth," or "true grey one. Vashoth - Qunari who were born outside of the Qun - are viewed like humans, elves, or dwarves because they never accepted a place in the Qun and then abandoned it like the Tal-Vashoth. That's why Qunari will do their best to kill any Tal-Vashoth they find, but will treat Vashoth with the same formality and coldness as non-Qunari

    • @TrueMastersandMorons
      @TrueMastersandMorons  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Tal-Vashoth is yet another commonly misunderstood word. Tal-Vashoth is the term from the Qun for those that have fallen away from the Qun and refused it's teachings. Meaning that much like how an elf, dwarf or human are Qunari if they follow the Qun, an elf, dwarf or human would be called Tal-Vashoth if they once followed the Qun but turned away. As with all things in Qunari culture they don't believe in a race/species. They are a people. As for Kossith that's just the word for the "Base" race that most people associate with Qunari. But it has fallen out of use much like humans are technically Homo sapiens but we go more often by human, or for a lot of people even more often by religion, creed, geographical location etc. People saying "i am a christian, I am an american, I am japanese, korean, german, russian, etc." :)

    Coming back to this, gotta say... The Qun isn't wrong, specifically. About the whole world being an organism. Kinda at least, if the Inqusition DLC hit it right. The Qun could be quite correct in the assumption and could be something that developed from some idiot stumbling across a different heart of a dwarven god and getting told by the god what to do and what to be, and didn't become a murderhobo from the connection. It would even explain the idea of the Qun being this densely complicated subject as it could be the direct conversation of a God to a mortal.
    Taken further, maybe the Kissith race were created to interact with said heart in some capacity? Maybe to resist corruptive influences or whatever fucks with the minds of people who approach and go insane. They were experiments, though I don't think Tevinter experiments since the Tevinter were situated on Thaedus and while powerful in the past, doesn't seem to have left their continent?

    • @TrueMastersandMorons
      @TrueMastersandMorons  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Like most philosophies, there's a lot about the Qun that's good, and the world is very interconnected in any fiction and in real life. Personally we're not sure about any relation to the Kossith and dwarven gods, but yes they're definitely engineered in some form, and they came to Thedas looking like that, so we know they're not a Tevinter creation.

    • @DumasHiseki
      @DumasHiseki 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TrueMastersandMorons Depending on when the creators of the series came up with the Titans, if they had them in mind on the outset with Dwarves, or if it was later they came up with that. It would probably help to pin down on that. Since the DA:I DLCs do lead pretty hard that the next one will be focused on the old Elven Gods and exploring past just what the Chantry have drummed up to explain things. And with the fact that the Kossith are engineered, then lorewise and for the authors of it all. They'd probably want to tie things together to make a circle for it. Since that does seem to be an overall good tool for world building "Everything has a place in the circle of life of your world". The Kossiths have been in the game since the beginning, too though differently. And like the Titans, figuring whether the idea of "dragoning" them came later or early on. Likely also would explain the depths they were thinking. Though if it is true too, that they didn't expect Dragon Age to blow up, then more likely explanation is that from 2 onward they were trying to link shit together.

    • @TrueMastersandMorons
      @TrueMastersandMorons  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I know we kind of breezed over it, but RainPhantom is correct. Qunari mages have their mouths sewn shut, they walk around in essentially armored/chained prison outfits. They're bound to a non-mage caretaker who watches over them to ensure they never get possessed, and the standard Qunari cultural instillation is still present, so they themselves are taught to fear and control their magic, lest they be possessed. In fact if their handler ever dies or they are separated from their handler for too long, they're automatically sentenced to death, and many will take their own lives. The automatic assumption being that the mage was possessed in the interim. For all of that though, the Qunari honor their mages, recognizing them for the incredible courage it takes to shoulder their terrible burden.

    I'm planning to make a video on my other channel about Qunari gender :) Theirs is so interesting since it's firmly based in roles above all, which means those born male can and will be seen as women if they take on roles Qunari assign solely to women, and vice versa. Also the fact that roles among the Qun can, in fact, change, if deemed necessary or if the initial one is ill-fitting, means that a Qunari bred and raised into the army, who are all "male", can become a Tamassran [teacher/scholar/doctor/historian/mother figure/sex therapist/role assigner] and thus "female".
