- On this episode of Head 2 Head, Jonny Lieberman sets out to discover which German hot-rod-personal-luxury-coupe is the best you can get. The 507 Coupe is the last iteration of the W204 C63. With the exception of the very limited-run Black Series, it's the best C63 that AMG has ever done. Under its hood sits a hand-built, 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V-8 good for 507 horsepower. What more do you want? Perhaps something more high-tech, and that's where the Audi RS5 comes in. The sexy coupe from Quattro GmbH in Neckarsulm features a 4.2-liter V-8 that spits out 450 hp. That¹s less power than the 507 Coupe makes, true, but the Audi also features AWD, a dual-clutch transmission, bigger wheels and tires, plus a trick torque-vectoring rear differential. That RS5 is so incredibly stunning to look at, it actually hurts a little bit.
The Audi looks are more sophisticated while the C63 has a mean look... Some days I like the Audi more and some days I like the Mercedes more. I think overall both cars are great.

RS5 for daily driving. C63 for beast mode.
I can live with the cons you mentioned on the Audi, but I could never live with a poor transmission system. When it comes to transmission and the clutch, that's where I need my car to shine. I'm also a huge fan of great acceleration, I can deal with the car being slightly off it's steering when at high speeds (even though that's something I'd of course prefer to be without) and I simply love the RS5's look. That's why I have to make it my choice out of this selection. Witch ever one you choose i guess it all comes down to what you value most in a car.

I - as a proper Bimmer fan - must admit that the RS5 really looks great in black. It may not be the best drivers car in the world, but still a mighty everyday weapon.

I don’t agree the c63 which I believe is one of the best at handling In the rain mins never slip or spin from a dig it’s maybe the tires you have on your car cause those cause traction control is A1 if you know what your doing

I have a C63 so I have made my choice. The Audi is an amazing car no question about that but I love the wild characteristics of the amg. The sound, the big engine, the back wheel drive etc. makes it a beast that you have to tame. The Audi is to nice and gentle in comparison.

Both cars are obviously very good.
At this level I think it comes down to personal preference.
For me it would be the RS5 hands down. No matter the opinion of any reviewer.
Besides the only AMG product that could ever excite me was the SLR.
Some will agree some will hate me for that.
But that's ok.

I have a 2014 C63 Edition 507 and I have to say that it is an awesome car, and I am glad you found it the winner because it is a clear winner. I have tuned the ECU, and replaced the air boxes with ROW boxes and it made the car even better.

This is one of my favorite roads of all time. You climb up, descend down, climb up once more and descend down once again. All the way the scenery is gorgeous. If you want to test the handling on a car. This is where it is done.
AMG always sounds better than anyone. Only Lambo and Ferrari can stand with that sound.

The Audi weighs a couple of hundreds pounds more but barely loses in speed tests. Plus, it also has AWD....I like the Mercedes but I'd give this edge to the Audi.

Greater acceleration at any point in that given distance will yield a faster final speed. I think you meant to say, "More weight and lower efficiency usually means a slower trap speed." AWD cars have slower trap speeds because of these two disadvantages, not because of a better launch.

The audi is all whell drive, that means that it has a big advantage in the 0-60 time. But despite that the C63 (2WD) is faster! That AMG is one hell of a engine!!

johnny rex The 4.2 is a turbo charged while the 6.2 is not and that's a huge difference.
teknown You were ill-informed or just so mesmerized by the 4.2's output that you couldn/t accept it was not turbocharged.. The 4.2 is a normally-aspirated FSI engine.. Fuel Stratified Injection is when fuel is directly injected into the cylinders and not the intake ports. So efficient that its exempt from gas guzzler tax the Merc faces... next you'll be saying Audi employs a band of Haitian voodoo witchdoctors that can extract more power than advertised.. Truth in Engineering.. spooky hu?
johnny rex very true, but the AMG division had to power down the 6.2 litres for the C63 because otherwise it would have flied! the original 6.2 liters AMG engine is much more powerful. This one is turned down to a similar power as the M3 and RS5. Anyway, it's faster without any "but".

It's funny because all people prefer RS5 than C63 because the RS5 doesn't have it's License plate haha :') Just give it it's license plate and say Bye bye to this very aggresive and nice looking frontal ventilation ;)

The front plate will have nothing to do with the cooling. Behind this section is the bumper and behind that is the aluminum support so cooling is not affected.

I have a 507 and I'm curious which one is more rare the Benz or Audi ? And yes not only are these cars expensive and costly as hell to maintain but there not practical so ya, I love mine but I understand why not a lot of people buy cars like this even if they can afford it

I'm strongly considering buying a 2014 Audi RS5. Before making the final decision, I'm doing research. What can you tell me about the car? I know enough about the performance. My real interest is understanding the biggest issues owners have with the car regarding reliability, maintenance and costs. What RS5 specific questions I should definitely ask the seller when doing a pre-purchase inspection? What areas of the car absolutely need to be inspected, and for what specific condition? Since you own the RS5, you're opinion and advice will be helpful. Last week I missed a chance to buy a 2014 model that only had 17,500 miles. The car looked outstanding and it was an Exclusive Limited Edition RS5. Apparently it's 1 of only 75 sold in the US in 2014. Regardless, that car sold fast and isn't an option for me anymore. Other's are.

The engine of the 6.3 AMG´s once had 6.3L. The actual new AMG 6.3 also have only 5.5L but therefore a Turbo. If they name the engine now 5.5, they get a name collision with a older AMG 5.5L engine class.

At least for BMW, the number refers to "the displacement of an NA engine that has similar performance". The new C63 has a 5.5T yet it's still called 63. C200 has a 1.8, so I guess Mercedes agrees with BMW, too.
Audi for me 100% its down on power up on weight and still puts in work... plus the Audi is a much better looking car IMO. And don't forget QUATTRO!!

Inside the car the Audi sounds better when you are flooring it.
I would have to beg to differ. I get why he chose the AMG but, in practicality,cost,winningness. The Audi won. It has AWD which is a benefit for most, cheaper, smaller engine yet faster than the C63 (most likely do to the awesome transmission and AWD), and it was lighter.

Mine isn't the 507, but had 487 bhp. I've done 0-60 in exactly 4 seconds.

there's 57 hp difference though the audi has a 4.2 litre engine and the merc has a 6.2 litre engine and 0.1 second diference to 60 miles
Kobe B are you sure? I havnt seen any engine in the world that is able to nearly increase its output by nearly 100% as you mentioned (450 hp in the c63 and 800 from brabus) I doubt that very much.
AMG doesn't have 4 wheel drive.....

Turbo chargers would be technically changing the engine thoughwouldnt it. One the components would probably need to be changed in order to withstand high turbo boost pressure, the piping would probably be changed for higher temperatures.
As for me I think that in term of grip and traction, the audi has it compared to merc. if it's like muscle car. You have power but no traction

Just bought a 2014 RS5 with 15k miles in Arrow Grey Pearl Effect. Prefer this generation over the new. Love the sound and looks.

The Audi looks smooth, elegant, sporty, athletic and timeless.
The Merc looks like something that just came out of a 'Fast and the Furious' movie with the try hard bodykit - tacky as hell. Just throw some underbody neons on it and the picture will be complete.
Unfortunately in recent times Mercedes has completely forgotten how to build a stylish car - just look at the A45, GLA45, CLA45, etc. All disgusting looking cars.
They have done a solid job with the brand new C Class and recently introduced E Class so ill give them credit for that...but everything else they have churned out lately looked atrocious.
I wouldn't say the C63 in this comparison video looks 'attrocious' by any means, it's just dissapointing because the base shape of the C Class coupe was very nice, ago they could have made it a great looking car if they didn't overdo the tacky try-hard look.
Audi understands how to build a great looking car without resorting to those cheap and tacky tactics, which i appreciate. They've built some not so sexy cars too (A1 range, Q3, Q7, etc) but the vast majority of their model range lokks fantastic - and IMHO the A5 range is still the best looking coupe money can buy until you get up into Porsche 911 / Maserati territory.

So lets see just based on this review, almost the same in a straight line, with a slight edge to the 507, the Audi is significantly better at cornering with speed in both the dry and the wet, the Audi has a better gearbox, and anyone who has been in both an Audi and a Merc know the Audi has a better interior, and in this case exterior but some how the the 507 is the winner.

I have the RS5 V8 and oh man when you activate the sports traction control oh boy does it get loose. Wouldn't trade it in for any other car. Love it
