The driptrooper is the biggest conspiracy the Republic has ever seen, at the break of the clone wars hundreds of driptroopers paraded around the core worlds to prove the might of the new Grand Army of the Republic in outfitting all of its troops in fresh drip. However, the driptrooper was no more than a front, less than 800 of them were produced and the Republic launched the largest propaganda campaign in galactic history. The citizens of the Republic had faith that their mighty driptroopers would defend the Republic to the death, knowing little about the truth, that the driptrooper was nothing more than a ceremonial position given to failed cadets that weren’t terminated. Should the truth be revealed to the public wartime support would’ve collapsed at the outbreak of the Clone Wars, ending them in very short order. As a result propaganda campaigns detailing about the thousands of driptroopers fighting on the front lines were publicized and false records were instated in GAR data banks while in truth normal clone troopers were the true warriors. The CIS as well as Republican citizens attempted to expose the truth but it was suppressed as “enemy propaganda”. To this day little is known about the true nature of the driptrooper, as almost all information has been silenced or suppressed.

What are you talking about? He'd be great for commanding desert troopers. He'd know all the dangers, especially the danger of equipment failure caused by sand getting everywhere. Moreover, he would be able to tell rocky plains from sand dunes from a mile away and guide them to the former, giving them a more advantageous position--you move slower on sand than on rock, and speed is important for combat, plus rock provides great cover from artillery fire and sand dunes do not.

“Thanks to the modular design of the combat harness and our body gloves, most times, they worked in a pinch. On the other hand, I have, at one point or another, wore an array of armor in the Grand Army. My main suit in my heyday was a set of ARF armor, modified to be reinforced and to take some pretty additional HUD elements, a built-in communication antenna, and even a blast guard for my face, has saved my cheeks a couple times. I also once wore a big thermal suit, once a HAZMAT suit, and on many occasions an EVA suit. Every time I got a new mission, sometimes meaning a new set of armor, I would have to not only learn how to use it, but how do use it to my advantage. With this in mind, I am so glad my days of heavy armor is over, although I don’t mind the EVA suit.” -CS/CT-8711-12 “Cheng”, Captain and Scout of the 442nd Siege Battalion

Interestingly the advent of the "crash-course pilot" troopers also coincides almost exactly with the phasing out of the V19 Torrent, i.e. the most complicated and unwieldy starfighter ever, in favour of the ARC-170, which was not just a lot more solid and simple designs over all being based partially on the Z-95, the easiest starfighter to pilot of all time, but whose primary weapons (the 3 laser cannons) were lifted almost directly from various ground attack vehicles such as the AT-TE and the Saber fighter tank, which those clones were probably already intimately familiar with.
Leads me to believe that the coolest starfighter ever was probably a direct result of this development.

I'm glad you made a video on this because I've always wondered about this myself. However, I don't think it's entirely accurate that these clones are never used. I think this is because were assuming that the GAR only organizes its specialist troopers into niche units, rather than dispersing them among typical rank and file units. I think in the case of the GAR, environmentally specialized clones are dispersed to provide knowledge and expertise in the units they are embedded into.
The 501st isn't a cold-weather assault unit, but because they might have a handful of clones that have attended the "cold weather" school, regular clones have access to peers that have received specialized training and knowledge, and can therefore perform better.

I agree with a lot of people here. The specialists were likely integrated into other units like the 501st. To compare to another universe, it seems like how the 1st Legion Dark Angels was structured during the Great Crusade and subsequent Heresy. Specialists like those of the Firewing were distributed to different units where they lent their expertise and formed into larger groups when necessary.

Maybe these unused specialist could have been given crash courses into low level officer positions. They then would be called in at these special environmental battles. Since they had officer training and knew the environment better than the regulars it might have been advantages.

As a star wars nerd and a military nerd as well...
I think in a lot of ways, they got carried away with this and the 50 million different forms of "special operations" troop types that existed.
Realistically, it be reasonable to assume clone training would be general enough to cover most environments and that a fairly generalized environmental protection system would exist- negating the need for training specialists for stuff like the desert, forests, etc. specifically.

It would make more sense to me to say that there just wouldn't have been adequate time to respond for these specialist troopers. Whatever clones were in the area would have to do 90% of the time, which would mean that the specialist troopers would largely be designated to defending key worlds that were within their specialty.

Well, there is one battle we know all the Environmentalists were used, the First Battle of Geonosis. Since Yoda took all the available Clones at the time to that battle, which would include all the Environmentalists.
(Sarcastic tone): I'm sure those Scuba Troopers were very useful there. LOL.
Come to think of it, I wouldn't mind a video about the First Battle of Geonosis, since a lot more was going on than we saw in Episode 2, such as what Grevious was up too, and all the stuff we saw in the original Battlefront games and Republic Commandos.

this can be summed up with 1 thing. Logistics. Ok i have ice troopers, they are currently working on hoth. its going to take a few days or even weeks to get them gathered up and onto landing ships. Then days or even weeks to get them to the target world, which JUST had an opening as its defense fleet ws pulled away... OR we can do a landing with regs we have and be able to make planet fall in 6 hours.
What was going on was a very fluid ward. Lines and planets changing hands fast, often in just days. While others having sieges that lasted months. The truth is, specialiest troopers are better on defense. NOT offense as backwards as that may sound. The reason being, specialest troopers get better, the more time they have to prepare defenses, scout, and secure their enviroment. While having to move specialest units requires far more time, as they may not always be staged for a quick move, nor close enough to the lines of battle where they might be needed.
Specialist troopers may have been far more common then we see, but used in garrison and defensive rolls instead of the front line rolls we see, and the film concentates on.

    • @samueldimmock694
      @samueldimmock694 2 ปีที่แล้ว

That actually makes a lot of sense, maybe even more sense than the idea of having them be trainers or expert advisors for reg groups fighting in their special environment. Of course, no reason you can't do both, except possibly logistics, but I'd imagine most specialist troops were used in garrison roles even if some were loaned out to other divisions.
