Much like how most gun crimes against someone armed are averted simply by showing you're armed even when the other person is already pointing a gun at you. Criminals are almost always absolute cowards. The pirates don't care that the B1 is crap, they care that they'll be shot at.

    • @RexMK-
      @RexMK- 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not to mention their greatest advantage besides huge number, they are droids.
      They don't need sleep, food or medical care to function, they don't get affected by low morale or sickness, they don't even need to breath.
      Even if you are fighting againts Clones or Jedi or even Mandalorias if play to all these advantages you will win. Because they are still living being with biological needs.
      You can cut their supply lines and made sure they don't get any food or supplies to support their army, or wittle them down little by little with fast lighting strikes, eventually they will be either to hungry and too tired or too injured to be able to fight.
      This also gives the Droid army another advatange, logistics, not only they are cheap to produce and maintain but the logictics needed to keep them running is practically none if we compare them to armies like the clone army.

    • @zaniatnik
      @zaniatnik ปีที่แล้ว

      One-man armies only work in fiction. Playing foxhole and running a small clan in there taught me some respect towards manpower. A small unit can’t do shite because you’re constantly shorthanded. You can’t specialize, because you need everyone to do everything. You don’t have armored support when you go infantry because you don’t have enough people to crew the damn tanks. You go crew the tanks - now you have no infantry to support them. You go logistics to provide supplies or engineering to build bases - now you don’t have enough people at the frontline.
      It’s just like you said - without numbers, you can’t be everywhere and do everything. Even if you *need* to.
      The only reason clones stood even a slightest chance against Roger-Rogers is because the latter were made comically, exaggeratedly, unbelievably stupid. And even then it was only when there wasn’t enough of those deployed to simply overwhelm the clones.

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but the CIS made their droids more independant after the Battle of Naboo (to prevent droids from shutting down after one ship is destroyed). This lead to the droids developing personalities (hence the change of voices) and ultimately becoming less intelligent and effective.

      They made it so units had independent programing to compute and take action by themselves. They disabled this feature when central command was avaliable to give orders more efficiently. Meaning that they can come at any moment at any time even when you are sleeping or eating, maning that even taking a rest to fight is a huge risk.
      So beside the fact that your numbers continue to dwindle and your troops get more tired and more hungry the morale keep getting lower along with the mental state of your soldiers.

      One of the things that makes the battle droids look bad compared to Jedi is that 90% of the time, the viewers in the films only see them getting mowed down by Anakin and Obi-Wan. But Anakin and Obi-Wan weren't representative examples of the average Jedi; they were each easily among the top 5 most skilled Jedi in the whole order through the clone wars, and rank among the greatest Jedi warriors of all time. Obi-Wan in particular was renowned for having a defense that was almost impenetrable, which is why blasters look useless against a Jedi. All Jedi were trained to deflect blaster bolts, but being able to do it flawlessly 100% of the time like Obi-Wan did was unheard of. In fact, the viewer can see this in "Attack of the Clones" where a number of unnamed background Jedi do indeed get killed by blaster fire from B1 battle droids. For a Jedi who wasn't Obi-Wan or Anakin, taking on a hundred or more battle droids out in the open was suicide.

    I would want a droid army if i was in Star Wars. The battle droids are a perfect example of Quantity over Quality. They don't get tired, they don't really talk back and disobey orders or betray you. They can operate in almost any environment. They're cheap to make. They don't need to eat or sleep and don't get sick. The only thing you would really need to worry about is power and ammunition. Plus they are also very versatile, able to be programmed and reprogrammed for different operations, jobs, or specialties. Not to mention they don't need to spend years training. They can come off the assembly line ready to fight on the spot. Not only that they're environmentally friendly. You can gather the parts and reassemble and recycle them easily.

Have 3 or even a dozen of them working together as a server network. Adding in a basic fail-over algorithm to prevents the destruction of any one ship from crippling the army.

    6:55 HK-47 would disagree. According to him, Jedi have a bad habit of dying to simple things like land mines. They rush towards their target headlong and overlook simple traps. A grenade can also do a serious number to them. If it doesn't kill them outright or wound them, it will distract them long enough for a sniper to get a clean shot. Their overconfidence is their downfall, since they don't expect a "simple" droid to take them down. Using weapons that shoot solid rounds instead of blaster bolts also surprised them, since they couldn't deflect those.

      yeah, in the prequel movies there were a few moments of battle droid humor, but those could usually be explained by their poor programming - for example, the droid in the Naboo hangar not being able to process Qui Gon's statement that he was taking his charges to Coruscant and defaulting to "you're under arrest". The Clone Wars just upped the droid stupidity to 11 to the point that it didn't make sense. The movies for the most part portrayed the droids as cheap and disposable terminators. Then again, look at how they treated the stormtroopers in Rebels. They showed how grueling the training was, how the stormtroopers were basically raised and trained to be merciless killing machines themselves, and then have them making jokes or acting stupid before the rebels get the drop on them, while in the movies they were stoic, faceless and efficient killers(except for the Death Star escape, where it could be argued they deliberately missed).

    The B1 battle droid was perhaps the greatest example of quantity over quality! The first B1's did have the fatal flaw of having their command ship as something they had to have to function, after Naboo that requirement was taken away making them truly unstoppable in large numbers. There's multiple source materials stating that Droid production was always kept at max capacity under the orders of Grevious. If the CIS were independent and realized that they didn't need the Sith Lords, they could have easily overwhelmed the galaxy with sheer numbers alone.

    Imagine a real life scenario, where a country attacks another country with drones, armed with 9mm pistols. Somehow civilians manage to shoot down some drones and salvage them. Suddenly you face a armed milita, which uses your own weapons against you.

      Because the E-5 is a Blaster that would easily cause burns due to a lacking cooling system, they’re used by droids because it’s practically impossible to use the things for long periods of time If your organic, although some CIS PSFs armed themselves with modified E-5s that weren’t too hot to handle. Also the thing isn’t that accurate meaning that a smaller force using this carbine would be better off with a different weapon even if you could handle the heat. It’s only through sheer numbers and the B1’s targeting system that these rifles actually kill people.

    There’s an idea that I like, that isn’t canon, where the B1 is originally designed not as a war droid like the SBD and Droideka, but as a home/factory hand. This explains the personalities and poor combat abilities for me. The war quickly escalated and required droid deployment which only allowed for basic modifications before subsidizing the ranks of the more expensive and complex SBDs.

    I always just assumed that movie wise the CIS lost because they were victims of “writers needed a cool looking bad guy for the hero’s to fight so they had to loose”.
    Lore wise I think Palpatine had them programmed purposely to be buggy and not be able to decimate the republic. Many great CIS generals died in odd ways. I think Palps had them killed because he never wanted the CIS to be effective. Just effective enough to be a threat.
    Overall I think the CIS could’ve been superior to the republic but strict planning and cultivating of the better pieces the CIS had them as a Saturday cartoon villain and not as a true faction that wanted to succeed from a corrupt bureaucratic cesspool.

      Palpatine had full control of both sides and purposefully drew out the war. The CIS would have won if him and Dooku didn't secretly cripple it behind the scenes.

    I think one thing that should be noted, is how Gungun war technology seems to be specifically made for droids. They had to know what was coming, cause pretty much all that stuff woulda been useless against a flesh army. I think it's a good indication they were supposed to have a much bigger role in the prequels, but changed due to Jarjar hate. Maybe not as far as the Jarjar sith twist, although that would have likely made his character more likeable too.

    I think the only mistake was removing the central computer in the Clone Wars. While it was a vulnerability, giving the B1s the ability to function with limited independence, basically having animal level intelligence so they don't simply shutdown, while still being guided by a dedicated central intelligence would have put less stress on the droid brain, allowing it to function much more rapidly and dynamically.
    The only thing would be insuring that the central computer is properly defended, hidden, or have redundancies. If at Naboo, there were two or three central computers in separate ships, one acting as a the primary commander, and the others acting as backup or sub-commander, the Trade Federation would have won.

    From what I heared 1 clone (including armor, weapon, training and food cost from when they were created to when they completed their training in Kamino) costs about the same 16000 droids.
    That is also pretty much the reason why a lot of people fear a Robot overtake when AI gets to smart.
