Obi-Wan tries to use Grievous’s bodyguards weapons against him. Grievous basically just laughs at him ‘you really think I would give my bodyguards weapons that would defeat me?’
It’s actually hinted that Sidious is afraid of his own creation, Grievous, because he was so damn powerful in Legends.
Also further proof that Vader could have had armour that is shielded from electricity and Sidious decided leave him unshielded on purpose. I mean that’s already canon, but that was just proof the technology _did_ already exist.

I can think of two main reasons. First of all Magnaguards were iconic of the might of the Confederacy and Palpatine simply couldn't allow them to be in the public eye because they would disrupt the political narrative of the Empire, which thrived and survived based on tyrannical unity. Sure, the Empire used leftover Droidekas and Dwarf Spider droids, but those were pretty obscure by comparison. Second, they had already been replaced in the bodyguard role by Death Troopers and other elite trooper types. The Empire believed they already had something better.

The Dwarf Spider droids And Droidekas were _obscure?_ I beg to differ. The Dwarf Spider droids were THE heavy infantry units of the CIS, being more heavily armoured and having more long range firepower than the B2 Super Battle Droids, while also having superior mobility because they could climb walls and cliff faces. And the Droidekas were considered one of if not the most dangerous infantry units that the CIS had access to, thanks to their incredible mobility combined with their firepower and built in shield generators. I fail to see how they were obscure when both were used on most major fronts during the Clone Wars.

In terms of feats and scaling Magna guards do scale higher, being able to contend with high level Jedi knights and even masters, however Royal Guards, at least the best, like Kir Kanos are pretty close in feats and whatnot, they can fight numerous Stormtroopers, even TIE fighters and come out on top, Magnaguards could most likely do the same, as high level Jedi can as well, but it certainly leads credence to the idea that the gap between them isn't so absurdly large.
    I'd say Magnaguard's win 6.5/10 times.

In one of the Expanded Universe books, Luke and Mara Jade found one of Vader’s training vaults and a “battle droid from the Clone Wars” was activated. I remember it giving them a challenge.
This book was written before at least “Attack of the Clones” released. Possibly before “The Phantom Menace”.
I wonder if this unintentionally inspired the idea of the Magnadroids?

    • @Sioolol
      @Sioolol 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Magnadroids could've been in Lucas mind even before the new hope were even released. Good ideas have a tendency to appear in many peoples heads. Especialy considering the fact Lucas originaly planned for stormtroopers to be droids and lightsabers being the usual hand held weapons.

I have a theory that part of it has to with the Magnaguards' association with the CIS, but even more so their association with General Greivous.
Greivous was practically the face of the Seperatist Army, built to intimidate and strike fear to anyone aligned with the Republic. And the Magnaguards, having been HIS soldiers, carry that intimidation with them, maybe in a smaller magnitude.
That said, Sidious can't be seen alongside these infamous droids. It'd be bad for his reputation.

  • @johnh6679

I agree with these points, but the first one I thought of was from a public image standpoint. That it would look bad if the man who defeated the Separatists and brought peace, now had the same bodyguards as Grievous. Since most Imperial citizens would remember he and his guards as evil mass murderers and oppressors.

I believe those IG-100 series were much, much stronger than sort of organic guard only rivalled by very talented force users and those with plot armour. They were also the best pilots one could potentially wish for due to their extreme reflexes.
That being said, their very high production cost was their downfall.
Royal guards were indeed chosen among the clones themselves which means they're cheaper and insanely zealous while a droid is a droid.
Palpatine himself was a fairly paranoid person, he would have never trusted his life into the hands of a machine that could potentially out match him given they always worked in squads.
Human guards were probably more suitable to him since he could easily kill a possible defector with his force abilities.

I always felt that the empire should have stocked a decent supply of droidikas, B-s, Vulture and hyena droids, basically in any outpost, but especially smaller ones, say 50 or so troopers, not counting scientists and techs, you set aside. Couple mid sized rooms for droid storage, so if the outpost came under a serious attack, with a single press of a button the outpost could have add a couple dozen droidikas, 50-100 B-2 or commando droids, and a dozen of so fighters and bombers to target the attacking forces.
