By how much a tristar tester costs I'd expect it to be accurate 100% of the time.
I think the reason Tristar tester fails sometimes is that it only tests 8 main lines in the chip.so in your case maybe one of the 28 other lines was faulty.tristar is accurate when it says fails on most of the 8 lines.when it passes,doesn’t mean its 100% accurate.as always thanks for the great content

I gave up with the same Tristar tester a while ago. It does work, just let me down when I needed it the most and ended up down a rabbit hole. Nicely pointed out. Nice fix. Happy days. 👍🇬🇧

Yup. Knowing your tools only comes with experience. Yes tools are not always perfect. Knowing the symptoms and the tools limitations is what experience tells a solid technician to do. Awesome buddy.

I was looking to buy a TriStar tester just last week. I take it you wouldn't recommend it? They aren't cheap either. I would expect it to work 100% for the price

Why did you put solder on the Tristar pads....then....take that solder off the pads with solder wick? Was that just a way to "clean" the pads? Because, before you installed the new Tristar I noticed the pads looked shiny again as if you applied more solder later (but did not video this step). Is this correct?
He did so to apply a lower temp solder onto the pads. The original solder was the higher temp rohs solder and after chip removal, applied normal lower temp leaded solder. This is standard practice. Check his and other videos on the same. It helps in the replacement part to reflow sooner onto the pcb pads.

Is the tristar tester you brought from iPad rehab? If yes then I will be really disappointed. Because it is not cheap. Do you think your tester could be faulty. Jessa will have to make a response vid to this problem if it is true.

Tristar tester. As for icc pro, i wouldn't use it even if it was free. I emailed the guy and he has attitude up to the max.
