  • It's not an easy choice when you need to pick between the red komodo and the c70. They're very different and yet there's enough overlap between the two to make this a though choice. I owned up until recently both camera's and I felt like it was time to share my story about these camera's and help you get some insight into why I made this choice.

    I have 2 Canon C70's. I can't compare because I just don't know. But after much research I am really happy with my decision. I love the C70. It kills.

    Thanks for this. I actually went the opposite direction and sold my Komodo for a C70 the moment I got my hands on one for the first time. (I've now bought a second copy of the C70 as well). The feature set of the C70, small form factor and amazing quality of the footage really works so much better for the documentary work our team does.

      Thank you for sharing. I totally understand the choice. It's nice to read someone did the opposite for a good reason. I think Canon did a good job with the c70.

    i own the c70.. have played with the fx3 (my brother has that) and the komodo (a colleague has that one)...but i just like the c70 better...so much in fact that when my equipment got stolen (long story 😢😢) i had to start over with a lot of equipment...and i RE-bought the c70 again!

    I'm fascinated by what things people like or need in their workflow. You have 4 cameras in this area. Pocket 6K Pro, Komodo, FX6, and C70. Each one is an amazing camera, with different strengths and weaknesses. I love seeing which camera works best for which creator.

    • @PeterBaerveldt
      @PeterBaerveldt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That would be interesting indeed! When I chose the Komodo it came down to preference and specific requirements. Things like auto focus, connectivity and RAW performance alone set these camera's apart and create a unique workflow for each creator. It is interesting to get four creators together that work with each camera and take a deep dive into their workflows and how they tackle the potential 'weaknesses' of their camera.

      The fact that we have RAW now + Autofocus and great color straight out of camera.. Almost two years later and I really miss the C70.

    Now with C70 Raw do you still believe the Komodo was a good choice

    • @PeterBaerveldt
      @PeterBaerveldt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It did made me cry a little bit for sure. However yes, for me it is still a good choice. C70 RAW isn't the same as RED's r3d RAW files. For what I do it is still the better camera.

    Prefer to work with a couple of C70 because of the form factor and has everything I need on the body. Also files are small, has much improved af, long battery life, turns into a different beast with the speedbooster and image quality is good enough for tv production work, which I happen to “stumble” into thanks to Covid 😂. Cheers.

    For corporate interviews, is the Red a good option?

  • @vautierchristophe
    @vautierchristophe 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The Komodo is a very good camera for high quality projects. Now the R5 C is launch. It's looks to be a good camera. It's very interesting when it's need to look like a tourist or some discretion is needed. At the same time it's possible to get some steel image during the shooting. It could be nice to have some good quality still for the DVD jacket or for a presentation file for some corporate matters. The most important both have a Canon RF mount to use the same lenses.

    c70 just got raw firmware out, is Komodo still your first choice?

    • @PeterBaerveldt
      @PeterBaerveldt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, c70 with raw makes more compelling but it still doesn't give you the same 16 bit raw as Komodo.
      I must add that the R5C has me die a little bit inside. The form factor and hybrid functionality make it look so good for a fashion shooter.
      I don't want to sell my second Komodo so soon but the r5c makes me really think over my options.

      Well, I bought and picked up the Komodo 4 days before the v-raptor was announced (I felt kinda sad about it). So at the time I didn't knew that DSMC3 was already so close. However the 20K or more price difference is also way too much. Truth be told, if I knew it was coming I might have considered waiting but I'm very happy with what i've got now.

    what exactly are the data rates for Komodo prores and r3d respectively? Because I thought I saw another video where they were saying it was not that great. Like a minute of recording time. I would love to buy it as a travel camera but this would be a deal breaker

    • @PeterBaerveldt
      @PeterBaerveldt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, when i got it I indeed was a bit shocked MQ is very data hungry. I now shoot always on LQ which still isn't as efficient as the C70 by a mile. when I shoot 6k 25fps it's 1 hour and 19 minutes record time on a 512gb card and 49 minutes on 6k 40fps.
