    Early 80's . I walked into a bar on King West T-O. I can't remember the name but it had a front bar with the entry on King and a larger back bar with a small stage. There were only 4 of us in the front and it was empty in the back. After about 10 minutes a band started playing from the back and at about the 60 second mark I had to check out the guitarist who was playing. Jeff Healy playing to an empty house ! I never heard of him before but I was captivated, mesmerized and shocked at his technical abilities and his musical prowess. What a talent and what a treasure he really was. Too many took him for granted but he always put a smile on my face. A lot of us miss the man and his music. Bless you Jeff Healy.

    I’ve played guitar for 2/3rds of my life and what Jeff does is completely unconventional inso far as his playing style. It’s completely unique.
    No one fingers these chords in the way that he does, and it’s completely obvious that he learned to play this song by ear (what other choice did he have) and that’s not a bad thing. He clearly was a musical genius.

      @joeblough261 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@glenlee9537 What are you on dude? First off, she meant it as a compliment. Second, it's TRUE! Jeff Healey walks amongst the greatest guitarists (and overall musicians) in the history of the world - blind or not blind - yet how many people around the world really know who he is, compared to other greats? Jeff should be a household name, yet he isn't mentioned nearly as the others, he is consistently left off the "greatest guitarist" lists, and to state that fact is far from an insult, and/or uninformed.

    • @robnhood3214
      @robnhood3214 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@joeblough261 I agree and I was thinking the same when I read his comment. Jeff Healey was most certainly one of the all time greats and never got the recognition he deserved. Eric Clapton who I felt was highly overrated got more recognition than he deserved and imo Clapton was just a mediocre guitarist. He was nothing like Healey. When has viewing someone as being underrated ever considered an insult?

    Rarely are cover songs as good or better than the originals, but he really knocked this one out of the park with ALL the bases loaded. The backup vocals were powerful too.

      I think Jeff's ordeal with cancer was getting the best of him at this point, he used to be able to hit higher notes with his voice which is why I think the backup singers were brought in for this session, he even said "Thank you" at one point when they filled in for him.
      But anyway... here is the studio cut of this song from when his voice worked better, it is a little cleaner of a song also with not as much going on...

I played in a little 'sober band' of recovering members of A.A. & N.A. on a Saturday night at St. Bartholomew's Church on Dundas /Parliament Sts., in Toronto back in 1979/81. We were called "ROMPIN' RONNIE RICH & THE SERENITY THREE" myself Scotty R' Jim St.P. and Danny ? fronted by our illustrious leader Ron R. Jeff's Dad used to bring him in and he'd get up and even then? he'd wow! us with his playing. His buddies back then were still with him at the end and shows the loyalty that they shared. He was a talent that is surely missed by his family and friends. R.I.P. young fella.

      These guys never got the credit they deserved! This was one tight band not to mention Jeff didn't let his blindness hold him back. Any guitarist sgould try to play with his guitar in his lap because I have its no joke. Extremely hard and I've played for 30yrs.

      I thought Jeff Healy and his band played and sang this so much better than George or the Beatles. Because one can FEEL it so much stronger. I thought so before I even knew he was blind. The teens that came into our family run business played it on our Juke Box and Danced in our Dance Floor usually before proposing or asking the girl to go steady, the guys they were there with were with. I was very young. No music videos out yet. Too young to go to a concert yet. Upon hearing he was dead the of his death, I cried. He suffered greatly and yet still turned songs into beauty and emotion one could see and feel. May he R.I.P😔♥️🌹

    I was working at a hotel in Dallas and Jeff Healey was playing a show there. I was assigned so to speak to help him with luggage and to his room, he was a pretty big, tall fellow. Anyway he was pretty cool, I was surprised he didn't have a handler/gofer. Needless to say I saw him play that night. He played the most awesome rendition of "My guitar gently weeps" I've ever heard. I was only ten feet from him. Yea, he was badass, only 2nd to SRV in that hard rock/blues style. Ok, so he's not Jimmy Page, but he was his own musician.

    I saw Jeff at Hammerjacks in Baltimore as he was getting ready to release "See the light" album. I had no idea who he was, OMG became an instant fan. He played most of the show seated in a chair. When he played "see the light" he jumped up played behind his head, played with his teeth, it was mind blowing. We lost what I, and many believe was one of, if not the best are men ever. His voice was amazing.

    I saw Jeff at the Orpheum in Boston. I got to meet him backstage. He was just a regular dude, and an awesome one at that. During his performance that evening, he enthusiastically jumped out of his chair and was dancing while playing. He came dangerously close to falling off the stage, he had good people with him that narrowly prevented him from doing so. Whew! I love and miss him terribly. A class act.
