for anyone who wants a breakdown of this: Egon Spengler captured Vinz Clortho in a Trap and sped out of the Shandor Mining Company in a company truck. He crashed through a locked chain link fence, drove through Summerville, and out to the Farmhouse. On the road to the Farmhouse, Zuul attacked the truck while invisible. The truck flipped several times into a barley field and came to a stop upside down. Egon hobbled out of the field with the Trap and made it to the Farmhouse. He threw a lever on a column upwards on the porch and three capacitors nearby surged on. Zuul, still invisible, stepped out of the field. Egon held out the Trap. The creature took several steps forward. Egon stepped on a trap pedal but the capacitors died out. He tried again several times but nothing happened. He ran into the house and dug a P.K.E. Meter out of a drawer. It detected the creature and he heard it prowling around. The lights flickered off. Egon hid the Trap in a secret space and sat down on an armchair. He tapped his foot. An ominous smoke billowed into the room behind him. A vague Terror Dog form manifested in the smoke right behind him. He pressed a button and the P.K.E. Meter arms rose up into a taser setting. Several arm manifestations burst out of the chair and grabbed Egon. Zuul yowled and shot out of the house in the form of a pink P.K.E. wisp. Egon passed away and his body sat lifeless on the armchair. The P.K.E. Meter, now under the chair, registered a reading. It was concluded Egon died of a heart attack.
Almost correct. The P.K.E meter lighting up at the end is showing that Egon is now a ghost. Also the clear the monster killed him by causing a heart attack. Probably reaching into him and stopping his heart. Egon wasn't afraid of ghost at this point. The monster made him have a heart attack. But its also possible Egon shocked himself and killed himself so it couldn't possess him.
I would like to think that egon’s last words in his head were “not today” before activation the p.k.e tazor , and this scene in itself really does show that he wasn’t afraid of no ghost. rest in the afterlife harold Egon truly was one the greatest of all Ghostbusters 🙏

@@TheHylden, There were some issues with the plot I wont say there werent. I could see Janine not wanting much to do with Peter, after all he did talk crap about her in the first film.
This movie shows how to pay respect to characters from the original, not like Disney Star Wars, which shat on the face of the fans, then insulted them when they didn't agree with Kennedy's AgEnDa. Ghostbusters Afterlife is an apology for the man hating nonsense of the 2016 one and a love letter to fans of the original. Not perfect, but a solid 8/10
I know a glob of people didn’t like this movie since it didn’t “feel” the same way the originals did, but if we’re being honest, none of the originals felt the exact same, the first felt og and spooky, the second felt newer and fresh, and this movie felt spooky and new, so I guess they all have a similarity, but are all their own masterpieces
I sometimes hear people say "How did Egon die exactly?" well for me is that he captured "Vinz Clortho" in the "Shandor Mines" and was ready to book it but not without another terror dog on his tail, The terror dog wanted to stop Egon from hiding the trap that contains "Vince Clortho" when Egons truck flips and makes it to the farm house and the fuels went out he came up with a plan to hide the trap. The terror dogs main goal now was to posses Egon and find the trap. When Egons is sitting in the chair he either is making a one last attempt to shock the P.K.E that forms the terror dog or is getting ready to sacrifice his own in order for the terror dog to not take hold of him. He probably knew that it was still near by but the hands came out and grabbed him. Due to the crash and his age he had an instant heart attack from shock and his injuries and the terror dog might have went to violent accidently killing him. You feel bad for him here The smart, nice, socially awkward, but a hero and a good friend we see in 1, 2, and in the videogame is now by what we can see by this scene "Alone" You can tell he has not had any sleep, he has been preparing for this moment for a long time and knows that he only has 1 shot at this but can’t put to much pressure due to his age The town probably knew the events in New York and praised him and knows he can do it but at the same time looked at him as a crazy old man when it came to the end of the world. i have a feeling if that the trap did in fact work and he survived, he would focus more on his family and get to love and know them because you can tell that this is the BIG Finale for him and was preparing for decades R.I.P Egon Spengler My Favorite Ghostbuster!!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ R.I.P Harold Ramis You Still Are And Always Will Be Incredibly Missed!!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Have An Amazing Day Everyone/Everybody!!!!!
this is a true sequel to ghostbusters, not like the worst ghostbusters 2016 reboot, this is the third movie that Ramis has been planning since 2009, and it is posthumously dedicated to him. the theme song sounds very similar to old ghostbusters composer, elmer bernstein, and I hear that the sounds of this movie sound the same as in the 80's.
Hellz Yeah!! This opening sequence got a nostalgic character right, than 3 freaking films of Luke Skywalker... Egon never gave up the fight...despite being outmanned, outgunned and old, he still was willing to look evil in the eye and tell them "Got one of yours, come and take em!!!"
@@RealZunnan This film is how you make a Sequel, you HONOR the legacy characters and make them HEROES again. The Star Wars Trilogy did not do this, and ended terribly bc of it.
He was protecting the gateway with whatever is in the trap and they wanted his soul to stop him continuing his activity. Fortunately he hid the trap under the PKE to Shield the ghosts from opening it back up
I think it's explained later while Podcast is reading Tobin's Spirit Guide, that they assume their dog form in order to possess humans and GET IT ON. But before then, they are sentinels
@@stewartmcminn7773 I didn't understand some of this in the movie. Egon was having in the trap probably a dog demon, something that you can clearly see later with the release, and also Phoebe. But I don't get what happens in this entire scene. If Egon was running away with one of the two keys, and he wanted to capture the second one (the killer), why he had troubles in the first place if the ground zero was secure with the alarm guns? Why he "told" them (the kids) to release one of the keys? I understand that the killer didn't take Egon's soul 'cause his ghost appears in the meter just after his death, and the key left the place 'cause Egon had also a stun gun in that meter, BUT, where did that key go? It later randomly appears to take Egon's daughter? Why Egon don't even warns his daughter of the danger? Obviously, I just ignored this during the movie to enjoy it, but those are some doubts I have.
@@MGOFor3ver with all the paranormal activity going on in the house I'm guessing the terror dog was raiding his house to find the trap. I assume Egon made the pit trap to stop Gozer but the 2nd terror dog got away - as a desperate attempt to stop it he used the farm trap (originally for Gozer) on the last terror dog but failed. The tremors was the ghosts trying to find ways of breaking out the pit.
Egon was a tragic character. He sacrificed his friends and family to protect the world, only to die alone in the middle of nowhere, with everyone hating him or thinking he was crazy.
if you watch at the end of afterlife when his soul turns to stardust and rises to the sky, you see the logo ghost formed from it symbolizing his spirit is free
I'm still trying to figure it out though... Did the handheld proton stream built within the PKE meter kill him or did the actual dog/spirit kill him? And if it was the proton stream, did he essentially commit suicide? I know they said he had a heart attack, but if that's the case did he die from fear? The proton stream? The dog? What exactly?
70+ Year old man just went through a huge strain in the mountain, a high speed chase, a high speed car wreck, running injured through a feild in fear of his life, the failure of his equipment to stop the thing trying to kill/posses him, and finally a physical fight with a supernatural being. Somewhere in ALL that his heart just couldn't take the strain so he was probably dying before the Sentinel got its claws on him. The PKE Tazer apparently was enough to keep the Sentinel from possesing his body though.

AMAZING MOVIE! LOVED IT❤❤❤❤❤
Good man, he went out swinging to the very end.
Rest in peace Egon
Egon knew gozer would return
0:10 The instant I heard Elmer Bernstein's original soundtrack, I knew it was going to be a great movie!
We'll miss you, Egon
1:20 are you going was my favorite one of the Ghostbusters🎉
I was today years old when I realized the PKE Meter had a taser mode and Egon committed seppuku basically, before Zuul could get him
Rest In Peace Egon Spengler My Dav Ghostbuster❤
Rest In Peace Harold Ramos You Still Are And Always Will Be Incredibly Missed!❤🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️
This movie... this opening scene... I was not expecting so good. OMG thank you. ❤❤❤❤❤
Ghostbusters Afterlife = Classic.
AB SO LUTELY. This was the film that Disney Star Wars SHOULD have been. The Last Jedi RUINED my love for Star Wars.
Facts
This opening made me sad because Egon Spengler my favorite ghostbuster!😢😢😭😭
"Your Mother!" Egon to walter Peck
A true 3rd movie 🎬 dark, emotional , jump scares.
Egon but NEVER FORGOTTEN
I know a glob of people didn’t like this movie since it didn’t “feel” the same way the originals did, but if we’re being honest, none of the originals felt the exact same, the first felt og and spooky, the second felt newer and fresh, and this movie felt spooky and new, so I guess they all have a similarity, but are all their own masterpieces
I sometimes hear people say "How did Egon die exactly?" well for me is that
he captured "Vinz Clortho" in the "Shandor Mines" and was ready to book it but not without another terror dog on his tail, The terror dog wanted to stop Egon from hiding the trap that contains "Vince Clortho" when Egons truck flips and makes it to the farm house and the fuels went out he came up with a plan to hide the trap.
You feel bad for him here
The smart, nice, socially awkward, but a hero and a good friend we see in 1, 2, and in the videogame is now by what we can see by this scene "Alone"
You can tell he has not had any sleep, he has been preparing for this moment for a long time and knows that he only has 1 shot at this but can’t put to much pressure due to his age
The town probably knew the events in New York and praised him and knows he can do it but at the same time looked at him as a crazy old man when it came to the end of the world.
i have a feeling if that the trap did in fact work and he survived, he would focus more on his family and get to love and know them because you can tell that this is the BIG Finale for him and was preparing for decades
R.I.P Egon Spengler My Favorite Ghostbuster!!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
R.I.P Harold Ramis You Still Are And Always Will Be Incredibly Missed!!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Have An Amazing Day Everyone/Everybody!!!!!
He’d have to hide those traps even better. Hide them where absolutely no one can find them
Thanks for this
this is a true sequel to ghostbusters, not like the worst ghostbusters 2016 reboot, this is the third movie that Ramis has been planning since 2009, and it is posthumously dedicated to him. the theme song sounds very similar to old ghostbusters composer, elmer bernstein, and I hear that the sounds of this movie sound the same as in the 80's.
Definitely. That 2016 movie sucked so bad
This ONE movie was BETTER than the Disney Star Wars Trilogy.
What do you mean?
Hellz Yeah!!
This opening sequence got a nostalgic character right, than 3 freaking films of Luke Skywalker...
Egon never gave up the fight...despite being outmanned, outgunned and old, he still was willing to look evil in the eye and tell them "Got one of yours, come and take em!!!"
@@RealZunnan This film is how you make a Sequel, you HONOR the legacy characters and make them HEROES again. The Star Wars Trilogy did not do this, and ended terribly bc of it.
the beginning always shocking me - but i love that movie
I still don’t understand exactly how Egon died, why this was a sentinel terror dog on two legs, and where these beasts go later
He tased himself in the chair so vinz cant take over him and find the trap which contains zuul so they cant bring gozer back
Egon was a tragic character.
It is so sad this was invisible and nobody talked about this movie because I believe is one of very few cases were they did it great
it's so good! watched it finally today
This is how you respect a character from an old series and don't make a jake skywalker
It's funny how they call him Dirt Farmer because he has a farm that grows nothing but dirt!
This >>>>>>ghostbusters 2016
Has the same logo after sony columbia pictures logos
Ghost corps
2016? There was no Ghostbusters in 2016. You must have just had a Nightmare.
That was 90 minutes of women screaming how much they hate men at the screen... and I went into it with an open mind. Just an awful, awful movie.
@@madquest8 i shore am glad I never saw that dumpster fire because some how I knew it was going suck
I think about how scared Egon was at that moment. He probably knew he was going to die anyway.
Yeah you could tell. The way he was sitting in the chair with his foot moving up and down. He knew what was coming
'It's the Ghostlight!'
Internal injuries from the car crash, he was already limping, bleeding out inside, fractured ribs, ruptured liver, massive haemorrhaging, etc.
@@madquest8 u sound like a detective from the flash or smthing lol
@@madquest8 he tazed himself as a last resort
@@mouseblackcat5263 Don't forget many years of Twinkies.
Rest in peace harold ramis :(
"I collect spores, molds and fungus"
And apparently demi-gods
And straightens slinky’s
Good job
I like to think they still would've done this even if Harold Ramis didn't pass away before filming.
"I get to be a ghost in this one? Awesome!"
This scene was so sad 😭😭
The ending is even sadder
@@MartyMcFly88 so true ❤😭😭
It’s amazing how *spiritually* Harold Ramis acted in this movie… 🥲
2:17 is he limping or trying to avoid stepping on the traps?
That explains why he cares about his daughter and his Buddies and never give call them.
Egon: you want it? Come and get it!
He need his team.
The CinemaCon Release It Uses The 2014 Version From Sony Corporation But The Normal Sound Ding From Sony Is Replaced By Another Sound Ding From The First Track Ghostbusters Afterlife OST Entitled Trapped Which Was Composed By Rob Simonsen However The Final Release Of The Said To The Title Film Is Used The 2021 And The Current Version Of Sony Corporation Logo Alongside With The Normal Version Ding Sound From Sony
Rest in piece Harold
Is Rest In Peace.
Ok we have Ghostbusters,
Ghostbusters 2, Ghostbusters The Video Game which is the 3 and for all the fans Ghostbusters afterlife 4 which fits perfectly and I mean perfectly
Ghostbusters 2016 pfft 'THAT' is gooone for good
@Kaos Nova yuppp
Sadly I've heard the video game doesn't count, which is a shame cause that was a great continuation
I wonder what the 2016 cast is thinking about this movie.
@@jasontheredfox it still is canon
In 2:19 it's probably the same house from Men In Black??
Loganberry 😢❤
Can we just pretend that the 2016 garbagebusters never happened??! Because this is how you do it right!
4:29-4:32 I take it that’s Egon’s ghost
Sadly thats Zuul
First five minutes had better story, pacing, effects, and cinematography than the entirety of the 2016 film.
Agreed! That movie is a pile of 💩
Wow...2021Egon is better than Luke Skywalker, Sarah Connor and even He-Man!!!!
While every single one of these "nostalgia heroes" are turned into broken down, dead beat punks with a defeatist outlook on everything...
Egon is still fighting the good fight, despite overwhelming odds, despite being alone, and despite sacrificing his personal health/relationship with his family...AND just so he can protect a world living in ignorance
I want to be the Egon!!!!
That was beautiful and poetic
@@peterboatwright8898 It's the true definition of aspiring heroism…. it DOES exist!
I wouldn't define He-Man as defeatist
@@emilianomerendino3311 In He-Man Revelation? Id say he was.
Heck, it may as well have been called "The Teela Show"
Egon/harold ramis truly wasn’t afraid of no ghost
I ain’t afraid of no ghost!
I wonder what Egon was thinking when he became a ghost
Probably: Well it isn't what I intended the Afterlife would be
Must see
What exactly was he doing when he was just chilling in the chair before he died
He knew he was dying from the crash. He was buying time with his PKE taser to keep from being possessed.
@@nathanrobinson2130 If he's supposed to have killed himself to prevent himself from being possessed, I wish they would have made that more clear. I had no idea what the last shot of the PKE meter with the bolt of electricity was supposed to mean. I thought it was just the meter signaling that the ghost was about to show up.
He was keeping the chair on top I the trap so Zuul couldn't get to it.
