this was done with absolute class. And the way Jason didn't make Egon speak, was pure brilliance which acknowledged the memory of Harold Ramis and respected the character he created, Egon Spangler. This is also how you make a grown man cry.

The entire theater exploded into a roar when this happened. Egon was always there as a ghost, helping his grand daughter and bringing this moment to fruition. It was a perfect way to send off the old crew and pass the blessing to the new kids. I can't wait for the next movie to see where they take the new team and how Winston does as the voice behind the team. Seriously of all the reboots of old IPs this was done right.

    • @xSharpW
      @xSharpW 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +39

Ngl it feels like a really good reboot because it's not quite a reboot as we see them typically. Typically a reboot ends up hiring new actors to play the old characters (like we saw with the all women Ghost busters reboot that we won't talk about), and pretend like the old characters didn't exist. This is more of a faithful continuation of the OGs, since the new generation has to call on the old to help defeat their greatest enemy one final time before they're truly retired/put to rest in Egons case.

It is such a rarely used thing nowadays it seems. The only movie I can recall that used it in the last 5 years was the Godzilla Minus One movie. It still has such a powerful impact when used as it was in both Ghostbusters and Godzilla.

It's a wonderful awe inspiring moments in cinema history, it's rare to see nowadays because Hollywood rather focus on spectacles then storytelling. Something I noticed was during most of the scene when Gozer and Phoebe are locked in battle, the camera movement is chaotic, caught up in the energy output of both power sets, the dirt, wind, and so on. But when Egon’s hand appears to steady Phoebe’s neutrona wand, the camera steadies, as if his presence is the calming factor that swings the scene towards the GBs way. And then after the boys provide enough backup and distraction for another attack that’s successful, Egon slowly moves Phoebe alongside Peter, Ray, and Winston - official bringing her into the fold, and setting up the moment for Egon’s plan to finally work.
And with not saying anything and nodding, he acknowledges that even though they had a falling out, he understood, forgave, and was just happy to see them once again, even under these circumstances.
A fantastic way to bring Egon back in a way that is respectful, adds more background as well as character, and leaves a legacy that future Ghostbusters can build upon.

You introduce your own new characters; and let them stand on their own merits; but honor the originals, without lessening the old to falsely aggrandize the new. It was great that the granddaughter had her moment; but wasn't strong enough to do it herself.
Then her grandfather's ghost appears to help guide and support her, like he didn't do in life; but didn't take over. He had faith she could. Which is what all kids want from their elders, validation.
Then the others helped out rather than be spectators or cheerleaders; and they did so of their own volition and inspiration, not because someone told them too.
Lastly, his ghost said nothing. Sometimes it's better to say nothing because sometimes nonverbal ques say everything.

Unlike a certain unmentionable movie, that pretty much stole the name, this one allowed the original cast to be part of the bigger picture and not some side acts. It made me feel like I could handle a newer younger cast and be ok with them taking over.
The kids didn't just decide to do this, they were led into it by fate, and they accepted the call. The fact that they have the orignal gear is what makes it so much more believable. So, I will say this is defenitly worth while.

More than having been defeated, the knowledge that the ones to deliver her first defeat were mere mortals must have stung very deep. That "no" has probably been ringing in her brain ever since, and to see the very person who so casually declared his mortality to her before crushing her standing before her once more so confidently, I can't really imagine her saying anything else.

This was meant to be a tribute to Harold from the beginning. It was only fitting that Egon's ghost showed up to help his granddaughter save the day. It was a very respectful tribute to the man and his character.

You're not the only grown-up to cry over this moment. I'm 4 years shy of 30 and this got me crying like a baby.

The minute Egon's hand was in view I was crying like a kid. Such an awesome scene. This movie was great.

I loved this movie, didn’t see this scene coming, so it hits you in the feels, I thought it would just be a bill murray cameo and that’s it so seeing all four original ghostbusters was awesome, this is a proper sequel to the first two, let’s just forget the one before this ever happened

The producers had , I think a good concept, but blew it in the execution by not making it a continuation, or apparently in the same universe as the first two.

You mean that woke version before this one? That was a total disaster, I have forgiven chris hemsworth for his role in that travesty.

Ray: "I don't remember this job being so painful."
    Winston: "I do."
Yeah, Winston was always the one with his feet on the ground.
Ray and Egon were passionate paranormal researchers, and would have been too excited by what they were doing to notice the lumps.
Winston was doing it for a paycheck so he would've been more aware of the negatives of the job.
But all of them liked ghostbusting. Even for Winston the lumps were worth it
