      True, however the bigger tires brings the two ratios closer together. Ford does offer a 3.31 and 3.55 as well but this one must have the towing package. Either way if you're comparing how they come from the factory this is a good test, probably near impossible to get everything totally on equal ground. You can also argue the GM gets to it's peak HP and torque quicker because it's pushrod and Ford shifts around 6k rpm which is even before it hit's it's peak.

    • @ProjectFairmont
      @ProjectFairmont 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Pushrod? Tell that to 9k rpm NASCAR engine builders. It’s the aggressive cam timing and breathing capability of larger intake and exhaust volume in the Ford.

    The new 5.3 with the ten speed is a beast compared to what they used to be! However,….. stock for stock, tune for tune, bolt-ons vs bolt-ons, built vs built, the Coyote will always stomp all over the 5.3 liter. The 5.3 needs a cam and all the works to run with a sealed block Coyote. The 6.2 is a way better matchup for the 5L.

    I actually traded in my 5.3 chevy, great looking truck, never been a huge ford fan but when I hit 200k the chevy only being 5 years I knew I needed something with warranty for how much driving I do. I tried a couple new chevys and then drove the ford and I was stunned. Both the 3.5l twin turbo ecoboost and the 5.0 just blew the chevy out of the water. I had my chevy nearly fbo besides headers but even went as far as changing the throttle body and intake and tuned it as well as e85. The stock 5.0 I drove still embarrassed it. Needless to say, I drove away with the ford that day. Chose the 5.0 because they felt similar on the highway although the eco did seem a little faster from a stop. I didn't like the idea of the extra troubles past 100k.

      Man, not saying you're wrong, by comparison the 5.3L is fairly underpowered to any other modern V8, be it 5.0L Ford, 5.7L Hemi or 6.2L GM, but what a world we live in where 355hp and 383ftlbs of torque is considered "underpowered". I grew up in the 1990s and remember when the Ford 5.8L Windsor made 210hp and 330ftlbs of torque and the GM 5.7L made 200hp and 315ftlbs of torque. Great video. I've been waiting for months for someone to do a straight up base level V8 comparison between Chevy & Ford. I live in Central Iowa and I bet 95% of the 1/2 tons driving around Des Moines have the 5.3L or 3.5L EcoBoost. I've always been Chevy guy but I think my next pickup will be a Ford. I'm also a traditionalist and know that a naturally aspirated V8 can stir emotions that a turbocharged v6 can only dream of so my Ford would definitely be the 5.0L V8. A big reason is the rear end choices Chevrolet gives you are so lame. I think the highest ratio you can do is a 3.42 but again, 99% of them driving down the road are the 3.23 and I know they do this for fuel efficiency but if I wanted a 3.73 or a 4.10 rear end why can't I order it? Ford's overall package on their V8 just seems like a better value.

I’ve heard aftermarket tuning makes a big difference for the 5.3 and 6.2. Not so much with horsepower gains as just getting rid of all the torque management nannies. Moving the shift points up. @@eric6.2ltccsb You are correct on both accounts. Ford made the 6.2L for the Raptor truck (1st Gen) and it did well for what they needed it to do. But it had its flaws as even the 5.3 Chevy would walk it out of the box. If it were a 6.2 v 6.2 mashup between Ford v Chevy, then the Chevy would leave that dumpster fire choking on its own smoke at the start and stripe.

    The modular engine design was released in 1991, making it the oldest current engine family in production. While there was compromises in terms of bore spacing to accommodate FWD applications, it’s modern OHC design has allowed it to remain relevant. With notable exceptions like the cam phasing failure prone 5.4 3v, the now current 3rd Gen Coyote is remarkably efficient and robust. I have an 11 sec Whipple 3.0 F150 5.0 daily driver tow vehicle, for a stock long block it’s something I wouldn’t have believed possible 20 years ago.

      It being "modular" has absolutely zero, zilch with it being an "engine family". It is just Ford's general term for OHC V8 engines and assembly process. The new 5.0 shares absolutely nothing with the older 4.6/5.4 other than being OHC. it is no different than trying to associate a Gen II/I (LT/L98) GM smallbock to an LS/LT engine. They are clean sheet engine designs. It is not the "oldest" engine family in production. Tbh, the 1997 LS1 shares far more architecture with the newer LT1/2 than any Ford SOHC/DOHC 4.6/5.4 and today's Coyote. But, nonetheless, the 5.0, all Gens, are strong as F. They're fun to drive, for sure.

      @@bricebarefoot3437 First of all it is absolutely known as the modular engine family. It’s a name used since it’s introduction and continues to be associated with this family of engines, although no longer directly as there is now only one remaining, not a variety of displacements, 2v, 3v and 4v. Although it may not share any common parts with the OG 4.6, it is certainly a derivative. From the block design, cam timing components and hydraulic finger followers. Even the oil pump was the same until only recently. What engine family is older? I stand by everything I stated. There was no hyperbole implied, and have I known these engines since the beginning.

    • @bricebarefoot3437
      @bricebarefoot3437 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@ProjectFairmont It is a 100% clean sheet design. It shares nothing, no more than the fact that it is an OHC engine. Maybe some block dimensions...but that's about it. Not even the firing order. As far as "derivative"....I can say that for nearly every single engine on the market today. Like I said, a Gen III LS shares more with an Gen V LT engine than a 2v 4.6/5.4 does with a Coyote. And that is a fact. "Modular" engine was an adopted term. The manufacturing process was termed "modular"....an investment in tooling that was applicable to all engines produced by Ford. You're just flat-out being biased if you think it is the "oldest" engine family. I mean, a Gen II L98 from 1985 shares as much with a Gen V LT1/2 as the Modular family, from inception. Stand by what you said....it's a far stretch of the truth. And being the "oldest" simply isn't true. I say this and I'm a fan of the Ford's OHC engines.

      @@bricebarefoot3437 dude, sorry your wrong. Believe what you want, I know for a fact it is based on the 4.6. Firing order? The current F150 Coyote firing order is different than the Mustang Gen3 Coyote. The 4.6 and 5.0 have the same rod and main bearing sizes. You can run a Coyote crank in a 4.6 block, and the heads will physically bolt on. Nothing swaps from an LS to an L98. Sorry, it’s is the oldest engine family. No bias, FACT.
