Gm is very conservative with tuning and pushrods don’t rev high. Now if GM was more aggressive with tuning from the factory a stock 6.2 would spank a 5.0 and a. 5.3 could hang with a stock 6.2. But they don’t.

Just don't take the 5.0 trucks into any water coming close to the alternator... Ive had 3 different friends need replacements and 2 weren't warrantied due to water being the cause. One guy had his short out from going thru a car wash with the undercarriage wash...

What “mods” show any serious gains in a NA 5.0? Aside from completely rebuilding the engine with EFR parts, or putting a blower or turbo setup on it, it’s mediocre compared to Ecoboost.
@@jimmydiamond75 you do a intake, TB, manifold, headers with e85, maybe cams if your feeling spicy and you have yourself a 500whp truck. The mustang 5.0 (my personal car) makes 550 wheel with the above mods listed.

Nice, but what cab configuration and trim level and 2wd or 4x4? Because the weight of an XL single cab 2WD is vastly different than a loaded supercrew 4x4, for example. So, simply saying 2022 5.0 F150 doesn't tell us that much.
Actually Ford didn't tune the truck Coyote super aggressively. It is mildly tuned. Same year F150 vs Mustang GT Coyote has a tremendous separation in horsepower. The 6.2 in the Silverado is tuned aggressively, only 35hp down from the SS Camaro. The F150 Gen to Gen is typically down 80hp from the GT. Thats why people are throwing longtubes and a Mustang GT manifold on the truck and achieving high 11s to low 12s with a very good e85 custom tune. With proper wheel tire choices of course.
The coyote in the F150s are significantly down on power, very conservatively tuned with 400hp and 410 tq. The 2022 Mustang GT has 450hp 420tq. The Mach 1 has 470hp and 410tq with the same 5.0 coyote. That is why they respond so easily with a tune and modifications.

I constantly run 60ft of 2.13-2.14. My race weight is 5795Lb. Great video, IMHO trucks are very similar in performance. But on E-85 with an engine and tranny tune the 5.0 will kill the 6.2. You just cannot beat the volumetric efficiency of a4th Gen Coyote.
@@169abr Riddle me this. If the push rod is so antiquated, why did Ford come out with pushrod motors for their heavy duty trucks and do away with the overhead cams. One could argue it was because of cost, but I don't think that to be the case more reliable and more Torque

@@TheMeanmarine13 Just about the best sounding mass produced engine there is. I did own a 06 GTO for a couple of years with, SLP long tubes, an X-pipe, with, high flow cats and muffler delete ending with a pair of stainless steel Supertrap Elites. Not too many people know about these outside of the motorcycle world, but they are a tunable exhaust, by adding or removing plates at the end. First time i heard them was on an 89 Mustang lx. These things sound like nothing else.
As others have said, it's amazing how it takes GMs 6.2 to compete with Fords 5.0. The 5.0 is such a more efficient engine for power per liter. I'm a full time mechanic, I can say I would rather work on the 6.2, but the goal is to not have to work on them at all. I had a 2014 F150 5.0 for years and loved it, but I was disappointed when the Cylinder head formed a hairline crack that caused it to leak oil. Couldn't believe it and everybody I've talked to, including the machine shop my shop deals with, have never heard of or seen that happen on the 5.0 engines. I did sell that (I informed the buyer of the problem and sold it much cheaper than KBB) and upgraded to a Dodge Cummins. But I still maintain that right now, fords 5.0 is the most efficient engine on the market and the best as far as aftermarket support. All you have to do on a 5.0, is slap a supercharger on it and you're making 500-650rwhp.
@@dailydose8035 not mine but there’s a guy on streetcarvideo who beats the shit outta his car, stick shift blue car, apparently he drives the north everywhere. I daily my 5.0 but it’s a bolt on NA car, there is a couple guys around here who daily booted setups and they’ve not had any complaints.
It's a DOHC vs a pushrod V8, it could be said the 5.0 makes more per liter but it's a physically bigger engine than the 6.2L, so one could argue you get more for less with the 6.2L, not to mention more torque. The 5.0 does react much better to boost.
In the age of 10 Speed transmissions it wouldn't make as big of a difference from 3.42's as you might think. Back when you had 4-Speed auto's the rear end ratio was a huge deal. But these days your splitting hairs between the fuel economy ratio and the towing ratio.
Agreed. 3.73 would be way better than the 3.23's GM forces on you. My 18 5L with 3.73's and a 32" as opposed to the 33" tire that the 19+ GM trucks and the 21+ F150's comes with turns pretty much identical RPM to every M6 LS/LT Camaro I've owned in it final overdrive. At 80 MPH my 3.73 FX4 is right at 2K RPM so with the exact same gearing in the transmission I don't see the need for such a conversative rear gear in the GM trucks. GEN3+ SBC's love cruising around 2K RPM on the highway.
I enjoy these performance videos. I remember when I bought my new 07 Tundra I would get comments that truck doesn’t need to be so fast. It’s a truck! But it did make the domestics take notice and they upped there game shortly there after. It would now be considered slow compared to these trucks. Competition really helps drive the market.
Yeah the 5.7L I-Force back in 2007 was insane for the times. The only thing that was even remotely close at the time was the Dodge Hemi's with 345hp which still came up 41hp short of the I-Force. Glad Toyota put everyone on notice, these days no matter what brand is your favorite you can have ton's of power.
So hear it from me . Trust me the Ford 5.0 is definitely faster straight out the box . Meaning stock form. I know . I blessed to have both. The best part is the factory tune on the 5.0 with the 10 speed I'm a very happy camper on the way to work. Passing power is great , Passing cars is done so efficiently and effortless. I've had 5 gm trucks with 3 being 6.2 and this is my 1st F150 it. The GMC is full bolt on with 430hp to the wheels and 474 tq. And this 5.0 still surprises me and makes me smile.
Good video - your FX4 has a twin in Brevard County, Florida. Both trucks are beast - but I prefer Ford’s power to weight ratio and truck type handling.
LOL...No 5.0 has been faster than 6.2 NA in the 1/4 mi once modded. They are better with boost not NA. The 6.2's pickup 25-30whp from E85 and tune alone. Heads/Cam/Hi-ram 6.2's make 700hp NA like nothing. 850hp if you bore and stroke them to 427's. That is something you cannot do with 5.0's. They are limited to their factory displacement and will never make more than 600hp NA. Not to mention GM's pushrod motors are far easier to work on. I have yet to run in to 1 Coyote owner that works on his own stuff vs a plethora of GM LS/LT owners who do.
@@joemeyers1016 and no highly modded 6.2 beats a highly modded (boost, supercharger, etc.) 5.0... it's been proven time and time again and for 99% of truck owners, the types of mods you're going to run into are the trucks in this video. I honestly love the torque of the 3.5 over the 5.0 so far. Last week I traded in a 2015 2.7 ecoboost with 307k on the odometer for my new 3.5. Only major thing done was a torque converter at 180k. My company pays for my truck and I track the maintenance on all of the others and have been for about 6 years. We have 6 F150s currently from 2016-2022 with the ecos and 5.0s. I didnt get to pick the last truck engine like this time and was a little bummed about driving an ecoboost. It slowly grew on me. Even more surprising, even to myself we have been having better luck out of the ecoboosts reliability wise.
Two thoughts: One, GM hasn't upgraded the power on the 6.2 since 2014 (and 420hp was available in the Escalade a few years before that), thats NINE model years with no increase- thanks Mary Berra. Two, I floored my truck at the start of the video, and it was over before I hit 60!

Had the coyote in my mustang and blew 2 up at the track. Ls swapped to a 6.2 and have been killin it since. Coyote bottom ends can't handle the boost and are much more expensive than ls's. They are great for daily driving but the ls in my opinion is the superior engine
I wonder what the trim level, curb weight and diff gear ratio is on these trucks, yeah the f150 is faster, but the chevy looks like a high country, which should be heavier that the f150, which is a xl or xlt by the poly steering wheel. At the end of the day, the fact trucks can do 0 to 60 in less than 6 seconds and get decent gas milage shows how much trucks have come along, both are as fast as my 2011 charger rt, pretty impressive

Did you put premium 91/93oct fuel in the 6.2 like you’re supposed to or just run it on crap 87? 6.2 is gonna lose 10-20hp due to spark knock on 87. It states it in the manual and I’ve watched it in real time on my scan tool.
Great video, both are in fact great engines power wise(and sound wise :) ), but something to keep in mind is the weight of the truck as well. I am admittedly a GM guy, but damn those 5.0's are putting out some numbers stock compared to the larger GM 6.2L V8.
I am a Ford guy. I have been all my life and I only have 150 with a 5 l now but I can't knock this Chevy 6.2 either. It was just really really close. Both are very good engines it looks like but I love mine 5 l
The big difference is the 5.0 is a oil burning no low down torque junk, I went through 2 engines and both had to be replaced and still had issue, sold it and bought a 2022 ram sport and I cannot believe the difference in quality
Good luck your Ram, all the one's I've ever been in were trash, by contrast my 2011 F-150 5.0L that I bought new still runs just as good as the day I drove it off the lot.
We had a 21 f150 we sold at work,it was a base 4x4 reg cab with the 5.0. I was impressed with its performance,I never checked the numbers but it felt very similar to my 01 lightning when it was stock. It was about as stripped down as a new truck gets,so I know that makes a difference, but even at that the engine and trans worked very nice together, nice shifts and the engine sounded awesome. My first thought when I drove it was what a great platform to build upon,I considered buying it to make a "New" lightning, but my old one is going to stick around for a bit longer.
Love the 5.0 in the newer Fords. I'd like to see some times on the strip (with you driving both), as the 6.2 is typically a few 10ths faster. Also I believe the GM's are quicker in Off Road mode, than sport in a straight line. Fastest times I've seen are 4wd launch, minimal Rev up, and switching into 2wd as soon as you're moving.
You are in NO danger of harming the front axles. We’re out here launching 1500 hp 4wd f150’s in Texas. Most people with 1000+ hp 4wd trucks are stock front drivetrain. So don’t worry about it.
What people don’t understand is that ford been behind for a long time People are still into LS engines not much LT engines till this day Ford recently in the pass years has done noise with this new engines
I had 18 Denali and got best 5.1 4WD launch. Have 20 F150 5.0 since new and best is 5.3. Like you say any error, weight etc make the difference. The 6.2 seemed to have a little more IMO especially transitioning right into the 5.0
@Upshifter The front axles spin at all times but do not provide power to the front wheels (free spinning) even in 2 wheel drive. The constant Volosity Axle assemblys are balanced when made. When in 4 wheel drive, they spin and provide power to the front wheels At 40% of the total engine power. The rear wheels retain 60% of the power.
With simple bolt pms and a tune. The number one reason the Ford is quicker at speeds under 80 mph is due to the weight difference of the trucks with all things being equal IE: gearing cab configuration and drive type. What makes the 6.2 ECOTEC so go down low is it’s displacement advantage and torque it makes from 1000-4300. But other than that the Coyote is by far more superior in reliability and the ability to make huge power reliably.
5.0 is a great motor but 6.2 would be way easier and cheaper to modify not to mention in stock trim has more torque and probably a better power curve that would make it better for doing actual truck stuff like towing

The jacked up trucks with 20×12 slinging mud down the side look great!

I wonder what the trim level, curb weight and diff gear ratio is on these trucks, yeah the f150 is faster, but the chevy looks like a high country, which should be heavier that the f150, which is a xl or xlt by the poly steering wheel. At the end of the day, the fact trucks can do 0 to 60 in less than 6 seconds and get decent gas milage shows how much trucks have come along, both are as fast as my 2011 charger rt, pretty impressive
i think the chevy is a trail boss, it also has a/t tires and the ford has street
Don't forget about ford's beer can metal making it lighter.
Don't hate
😂😂
Don't forget about 1.2 liters less of displacement. Weight difference is only 220lbs look it up. But cry if you want to.
That blue Ford looks sleek as HELL!!!
For me definitely chose the 5.0L Coyote V8 over 6.2L Ecotec V8 anyday.
1/4 mile and the 5.0l will put a gap on the 6.2l. My 20' ccsb FX4 with tune, intake, and on E85 went 8.22@86 and 12.80@108
Both trucks are really nice. Im still stickin with the Bow Ties. But I respect any truck that is done right.
5.0 FTW🙌🏽 !!
I've got a 2018 denalli with the 6.2 and just a cai, free flowing muffler, tb and a cheap hand held tuner. I've destroyed all fords and dogs in my town. You have no chance!!! Less now with my 3.73 gears, ts stage 1 cam and e85. Bone stock right down to all my mods😮
I am admittedly a GM guy, but damn those 5.0's are putting out some numbers stock compared to the larger GM 6.2L V8.
something else to keep in mind is 1.2 liters smaller that's a 4 cylinder engine difference
I am a Ford guy. I have been all my life and I only have 150 with a 5 l now but I can't knock this Chevy 6.2 either. It was just really really close. Both are very good engines it looks like but I love mine 5 l
It helps that the ford is much lighter with the aluminum body
3.73 gears and an aluminum body on the Chevy and it wouldn’t even be close.. the ford weighs roughly 500lbs lighter.
Make the coyote 6.2 litres and it wouldn't even be close. Lmao.
Yeah big clown tires are stupid.
The 5.0 in F-150 has gone from 360hp to well over 400hp with this setup. The 6.2 is a great engine, better around town, but the 5.0 sounds phenomenal.
That 5.0 is crazy!
Chevy guys can’t say anything about the ford v6 eco boost Chevy has a 4 banger on a the Silverado 😂😂😂
You are in NO danger of harming the front axles. We’re out here launching 1500 hp 4wd f150’s in Texas. Most people with 1000+ hp 4wd trucks are stock front drivetrain. So don’t worry about it.
I have a 2020 f150 sport I love it 2.7 with twin turbos has plenty of power and 0-60 in 5 seconds is no problem at all.
COYOTE FTW🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
What people don’t understand is that ford been behind for a long time
People are still into LS engines not much LT engines till this day
Ford recently in the pass years has done noise with this new engines
Ford has been the number one seller for years and years I wouldn’t buy anything else
That coyote is something else. Such an amazing engine. No disrespect to the 6.2
Like the 6.2,but that 5.0 is a beast when they get boosted.
Been waiting on this video since you got the f150 bro 🎉🔥🔥
I had 18 Denali and got best 5.1 4WD launch. Have 20 F150 5.0 since new and best is 5.3. Like you say any error, weight etc make the difference. The 6.2 seemed to have a little more IMO especially transitioning right into the 5.0
I would like to see 0-60 times in 4 wheel low!
Me too but it’s awful hard to get to 60 with cv axles flailing around!
For what
Fr giggles
The lower gear ratio will allow faster excelration. The transfer case uses a lower gear ratio in 4 wheel low to increase torque to the wheels.
I have a tune 2.7 L eco-boost. I have yet to meet a 6.2 that even come close to my truck.
The ford can be ordered with 3.73 also
5.0 is a great motor but 6.2 would be way easier and cheaper to modify not to mention in stock trim has more torque and probably a better power curve that would make it better for doing actual truck stuff like towing
5.0 is way easier to mod... you can run e85 on the stock tune
@@LightningWhippleno it isnt. You can tell you have never been in either motor
@@pyrorye-80 i literally have one and it’s full bolt on. The 6.2 doesn’t make 550 wheel fbo does it? No it doesn’t. You have to open the motor to make a LT fast
Those 6.2's that GM is making nowadays are LT design...not LS anymore! Those LT engines are different in many ways and also much more expensive to work on or modify...compared to an LS motor. For the idiots saying that these 6.2's are easier and less expensive to mod...clearly don't know what they're talking about. LS engines are easier and cheaper to mod...not the current LT 5.3/6.2/6.6HD that GM is producing now! The dohc 5.0L coyotes are by far superior to any pushrod LS/LT or hemi engine! All you really need for a 5.0L coyote, is aftermarket cai and tune...you're hurting feelings after that!!!🤔🤐😂💯💯
@@jtthedon4230 so youre trying to tell me that a over head cam coyote motor is easier to work on than the new LT version of gms motors? You guys are nuts and once again, i can tell who has been inside these motors. People are always good at talking chit online, but you can always tell who knows lol.
The jacked up trucks with 20×12 slinging mud down the side look great! However I like my 19 Plat leveled on stock tires... way faster and I get 19.5 mpg if I stay out of it... rotating mass is everything as well as effectively lowering your final drive gear ratio the taller you go with the tires. The only thing that can combat the weight is a true custom tune for your truck. Good comparison
5.0 ftw
What axle gears are in each truck?
Just for reference. The 1996 Impala SS 350ci 260hp stock only ran 0-60 @ 7.1sec & 15.1 Qtr. Today's big 4 door V8 trucks are quick! That Impala SS modified to 305 hp @ the crank on drag radials ran it's quickest Qtr @ 14.31.
3.73 rear in 2wd will tear the asphalt up 💯
I've never lost a random red light race with another truck with my 5.0L yet. Lol
tune it and you wont lose to another 5.0L either lol
Watch out for the 2.7 then
TRX entered the chat 😂
@@bestman7776 Only time I was ever beside one was coming off a ramp onto a highway and to be honest it didn't seem that much faster. Clearly he was passing me but it wasn't like I was standing still.
I saw you grinning with the chevy more. That little giggle of glee hearing it get down the road. Both trucks sound great but im not a fan of ford
id say because the ford is much more aggresive wich gives him the scare lol ford all day thats americas brand right there FORD
You wouldn’t be grinning if it was a drag race and you were driving the 6.2 lifter sticker
You’d be hearing a sandblasted front end
@@mr.sunnyrise1571 id still grin because im a chevy fan and just getting to drive a 6.2L would be a blast. Those trucks pretty expensive compared to ones im used to affording. Its all in what u prefer. Some love fords, some love dodge i just love chevys.
Yes because whenever I bought a truck I care about racing lmaoooooo
I have 5.0 XLT and I can say right now I have never been so impressed with a engine like the coyote.
I would pick the 5.0 just because ford and im not suprised that they are around the same Speed and my friend who just bought a 5.0 was “race”ing my brother and my brother was suprised how slow his 5.3 is compared to the 5.0 and I told him they compared the 6.2 to the 5.0 and he said the 5.3 is faster than the 5.0 even tho my 4.0 ranger keeps up with him so I’m going to have to show him this vid for proof
The 5.3L has never been faster than the 5.0L lol. Even the heavy steel bodied first gen 5.0L's would take 5.3L's made in the same model year, albeit they were closer back then. But the addition of the 10-Speed really lit a fire under the 5.0L's ass. They're basically on par with what a stock 2003 Lightning would do.
Wasn't expecting the 5.0 that close in the 60ft stock tbh. Coyotes out there hurting all the feelings.
I have the 6.2 in a 2019 LTZ, threw a magnaflow catback exhaust on it, intake, 33s and it’s friggin perfect. Love that truck.
What I would like to know is the axle ratio of each. I have a 2023 F150 5.0 with 3.73 ratio. If the trucks have different ratios and weights the results are flawed.
I'm a ford guy, but if you hook the same boat or load behind the two trucks, I think you'll see the 6.2 shine. 👍
which 2 trucks?!? The chevy was the 5.3 not the 6.2. I agree though that the 6.2 can tow great!
@@CornholeSteve it was the 6.2 in the video
I was giving it towards the 6.2 but the 5.0 stays on top💀
Tried and true 5.0 ford pretty amazing how much the can pull out of that engine.
Mainly because of the aluminum body. Almost 500lbs weight difference between the two. Put an aluminum body on that Chevy and it’s not close.
@@lee.guynes but the 6.2 has more power so it evens out
@@pxte.7007 it nevee evens out if you want to compare the engines.....less weight and more gear in the 5br0 only really makes it a dead heat.
Same weight and same gear and the 6.2 smokes the 5br0.
@@rogerslawncare7260 yea it's amazing that Ford basically puts sports car engines in their pickup trucks. If you told the average gearhead you had a 32-valve V8, they would think you drove a Mercedes, not a Pickup truck.
to the folks that say “it took a 6.2 to compete with a 5.0😂😂😂” have yall ever actually seen the two engines side by side? the 5.0 is huge compared to LS/LT 5.3/6.2 engines. yall saying that goofy ass comment would be like me getting on here and saying it took you twice as many cams and twice as many valves. literally those two things allow more rpms and more airflow so your comparing displacement to a engine on roids. its apples and oranges is all im saying when you bring Liters conversation up.
I have a 2018 with the 5.0, that engine is a beast, even in stock form it will run. It might be a noisy engine, burn a bit of oil, but being a engine that is a DOHC derated for the truck so people would buy the 3.5 eco, it will run forever. little maintenance, just check and change the oil.
Both good engines. I have a 5.0 Mustang and a 6.2 Yukon, love them both.
Can you imagine the performance you would get if the coyote had the same displacement 😳
The 5.0l DOHC is physically larger than the 6.2L pushrod V8 Chevy uses, so for there to be a 6.2L DOHC...it would be HUGE and you'd probably need to mount it in the bed lol
@@SDGlock23 Ohya it’s a huge engine. I just dream about things that won’t ever happen 😂
@@SDGlock23 do you understand stroking an engine? It doesn’t have to physically change the size of the engine.
@@larrypruitt3919 It has a 3.827 in stroke. You could possibly increase it to 4 in but you would need to increase the bore witch would call for a slightly larger block and bigger valve heads . At 6 or 6.2 liters it would probably make 600 hp ! I’ll take one !…….
@@SDGlock23 I don't think it would be that extreme, Ford did have the soon to be replaced 6.2L which was OHC (SOHC) but OHC none the less and it lived under the F-150's hood between 2011 and 2014.
The sound of the Coyote is just unreal. That thing screams!
