- Finally have my first cammed truck! Chomper my 2006 GMC Sierra 5.3 crew cab got a massive upgrade by installing Texas Speed & Performance new Chopacabra cam and supporting parts! The truck also put down some SOLID number on the dyno!!
Calibrated Speed & Performance for the work and tuning!
My first cammed vehicle was a 2000 sierra with a BTR stage 4 loved every second of it.
i jus put a stall in my 99 today preparing for the cam i cant ever sell it i feel like with it being my first build its too special

What probably held you back was your injectors. If you have stock injectors they are the limiting power factor. I made 302hp & 330lb-ft to the wheels on 33s with a 5k rpm pull maxing out my injectors. (Peak power was not reached)

The trail boss stock’s actually look very good on Chomper. Maybe put some street tires on them or some small AT’s for a sleeper setup
Whats more sleeper than mud tires? People get flustered when i bark the tires off in 1st, 2nd and damm near 3rd cuz truck looks like a contractor truck

If I had to pick which truck got boosted first, I think I’d go with the 5.0. I think that would make the biggest difference in performance once installed between the two trucks.
LT4 hot cam and LS6 valve springs will wake that vortec up. Mine picked up a lot with that setup
Thats an LS cam. Not a small block cam
@@erickfirebird67 He is referring to LT4 "hot cam" from the mid-90's LT4 engines (2nd generation SBC). LS engines are still small-block chevys (3rd and 4th generation). The LT4 you're thinking of is 5th and 6th generation SBC.
The LT4 "hot cam" is a common upgrade to 1st or 2nd gen SBC cams given a the rest of the valvetrain is in shape to handle it.

We’re all the same, and some of us are lucky to have a girl who goes along with our obsessions. The face she made is exactly the face mine makes. The half smile and “I guess it sounds better?” look. Chomp Chomp Chomp Chomper. Soooooo nice hearing a good cam in that old 5.3. I get the cost is high for something like this, that's why it's always best to try and replace as much yourself as possible. Doing a cam isn't so bad, especially if you pull the heads off (which should have been replaced tbh). I only hope that having Chomper Chomp'n all over town is worth the cost, sure puts a smile on my face as I'm sure it does yours. Keep the vids coming bud, love the content.

Man that curve on Leeds mountain is fun as crap. I use to live in Vandiver on the back side and loved drifting my 5.0 Mustang around it. So much fun. Chomper sounds absolutely INSANE. Awesome stuff. I agree that you should do the next one yourself. You have the skills. I just did my SST2.0 lift yesterday watching your Trail Boss video. Went with the exact same tires too. 🤘🏼🤘🏼
I have an 06 cammed out, full length headers, 4.56 gears front and rear, and a 4 inch exhaust. I went thru 3 4l60e transmissions before I did a 4l80e conversion.

That install price is insane... I do my own work because of this amd also do my own tuning. 4500 dollars for a cam and a tune is the going rate I guess. To do all that work would take a man a day in the garage. Also add a trans cooler next to save the trans. I've ran 500 hp through 4l60's many times and everyone bashes them but if you keep them cool they live.

Add a Magnaflow! will help for about a year after the muffler is broken in but won’t drone/clap as much

Good pick on parts and its worth it. Make sure you keep oil changes and maintain no water leaks at all. Keep oil cooler if can be done. It will help maintain performance. ❤😂🎉😅
That’s a pretty expensive cam swap. But looks like they did a good job and at the end of the day if you are happy with it, that’s all that matters. You are probably very capable of doing a cam swap on an LS. It’s fairly simple. Cam sounds good, just found your channel and I grew up very close to your Area and live in north AL now and there is a lack of speed shops here for sure.
I agree, you can do the cam swap next time! All I could think watching this was a junkyard 6.0 and a sloppy stage 2 Chinese knock off cam and re use the lifters, leave the intake and valve springs alone, and send it.
Great job though, the truck sounds and runs great and you get peace of mind knowing it’s done right!

9:33 how much gas mileage did you lose? I’m looking at doing this to my 08 and I get 13.7mpg. I assume that I’ll get about 9 afterwards. It’s more about smiles per gallon right??

Place I'm taking my 2010 is 2800 for parts. Dod vvt delete. Cam and heads. 2700 for labor and tune. So I'm over 5500 total.
Love the cam man, you should get some wheel liners foe the rear of your truck! Rough country sells them, they're under 100 bucks and makes the truck look way better. Have em on my 06 cateye

An engine is just an air pump and changing the cam will allow the engine to to move more air so yes it would make it louder

I hope your transmission holds up for you. My 02 avalanche has almost the exact setup cam and all and the trans that had no problems and relatively low miles before the cam only lasted about 3 thousand miles after the cam so now its built with a 3000-3200 circle d stall and its great. And yes it gets louder as did mine after the cam!
Believe this has a 4l80e since it's a crew cab so it should be fine. I may be wrong though
Edit- didn't realize it's an 06 and he did a front end swap. It might have a 4l60e then, but kind of doubt it. The 35s would probably kill the 4l60e

I wouldn't touch the 800 anymore I'd call it done... Plus, the coyote will produce a lot more power with the same turbo. It's really those triple digit speeds that the LS and hemi can't touch when it comes to the coyote, especially turbo ones. Granted you have a pickup and a huge cab and not a regular cab short bed. That's what you should build next. A regular cab short bed F-150 just straight in the blue one. Get a shortbread regular cab and turbo that

Since you are in Alabama, I'll have to show you my intake setup. 4" with card style maf to 90mm throttle. It's loud but the throttle response is crazy. I'll be throwing in a cam shortly to go with all my other bolt-ons.

A while back I saw a guy on his TH-cam channel drop tons of money on different exhaust systems until he finally got the baddest sounding one and it did sound sick for a Chevy truck and if I remember right it seemed like he went with some kind of NASCAR mufflers or something.
My best sounding car had a small exhaust leak right behind the muffler. It sounded so good everyone asked me what type of exhaust I had. I'd say a P.O.S. catback. Most people didn't get it and thought there was a real exhaust company called P.O.S..

Your in a spot kinda like myself where you could have made more hp gain for the dollar by just swapping up to a lq9 or Lq4 6.0 but now that you got all these mods you can put it all on a 6.0 block and make 430whp
I do all my own labor and bought hp tuners to learn to tune mine with a windband
It’s not as hard as it seems to do a cam and lifters in these older ls motors
With me doing it all myself I’m somewhere around $2000 for everything I got including buying the 5.3 for $250 and putting new bearings and rings in it
Idk what intake your running but the tbss is usually good for a few hp/tq numbers over all the other factory intakes for under $200

No man your price is average. If you did it right with new gaskets, lifters, oil pump, etc. You came out good. Quality parts plus warranty plus professional installation is a wonderful peace of mind. They choose parts because they have been tried and trued to work. Goodluck man.
