More than a few of those 12s are still out there probably because these were not shot much but carried a lot and were close by in glove compartments, tool box, desk and nightstand drawers Some past associates who used them put 2 piece birds head shaped Pachmayer grips on them for improved handling and recoil comfort. The Model 37 is the 5 shot J frame counterpart and the 637 is still made as a version with +P aluminum frame and stainless barrel and cylinder. A K frame 12 iteration of the same materials would be appealing. TH-camr Dan the Wolfman has one of these 12 guns and praises it highly.
My first detective revolver was an issued S&W Model 10 2" nickel but was allowed to carry my own revolver and acquired Colt Diamondback 2.5" .38 Special. I also kept the Model 10 2". Over the years I have owned and carried a 2" Model 10 blue .38 Special and have one in my safe today. When younger and in the woods could hit rabbits with mine very accurate handgun. Also my revolvers were all round butt 10 2" versions which I did favor and still do. Neat story about your friend and going after coyotes.
Nice shooting, nice story, neat old gun. I recall a Dragnet TV episode where Frank Gannon brings Sgt. Friday a package delivered to the LAPD HQ for him, Friday lets the box sit unopened. Gannon wants to know what's in it. Friday already knows what's in it and isn't in a rush to open it, which is killing Gannon. It's a new Model 12!
I found a minty Model 12 in my LGS a couple years ago. Love it. The frame being .080" narrower makes finding grips a little problematic but workable. A few years ago I had notion to start a Smith K frame snubbie collection but they just weren't out there, at least in the gun shops. A few here and there as everyone was sitting on them. Finally got the 12 and a 66 snubbie. I have tons of J frames but the K frames sing my siren song. Just found your channel and enjoy it by the way.
I love my model 12's, but use caution with real +P ammo. I carry the standard load Critical Defense. But being an old school Smith and Wesson Armorer from the late 70's, I've seen a dozen of these model 12's with cracked frames. Usually right under the barrel threads above the yoke.

I have one and wish S&W would bring it back with a 3" barrel. the frame is 1/16 narrower than a regular K frame.
