    Carry one everyday. So easy to conceal and be comfortable. 5 rounds isn’t a lot but I’m not going to war everyday. If I need more than that I probably ain’t gonna make it out anyways. Also carry appendix so a long tigger is a must.

    I've had a S&W Model 640 in .38sp for 30 years and still carry it often today. Back then there was not an airweight model that was rated for +P and we were required to have +P rated firearms. Mine has the original wooden grips although they started coming with rubber grips about a year or so after I got mine. They are reliable, easy to carry and look great too. The .38sp +P round has a little more power than many people might think. Nice shooting as always Hickok...........

      would like to find something like that for my sis. Little heavier for mitigating recoil and hammerless for concealed carry. Shooting 38 special or 38 + wad cutters??? She has problems with the recoil.365 9m,43x and when shooting the 380ez it was still a hand full for her. Maybe a Ruger in 327 mag?? thoughts. i think it would be great if if the ez had a little more wieght. 365 380 with a WC xl grip? Where i live you prtty much need to buy it to shoot it. Thoughts. Thank you for your videos. By the way she has no problem with her 686+ with a 5" barrel.

      @@robertkwiatkoski1292 Just my .02...I have one of these and the all-stainless 640. The 642 was too snappy in recoil for my wife, even with Federal "low recoil" defense loads. The 640 much better. In the end, she went with a S&W Shield Plus 9mm, which is more comfortable for her. These 642s are terrific little revolvers and very comfortable to carry. Just not ideal for many women to shoot in our experience. To each their own, though.

      I have a 686+ with a 3 inch barrel, if she likes her 5 inch she may like the 3 inch a little better to carry but I don't find it to be very concealable. It's still easily one of my favorites though. We bought my daughter an EZ .380 and that works great for her. Too bad you can't find a range that rents out some of their firearms to use at their range. I've never fired one but I've heard the 5.7 is light on the recoil and will get the job done but the ammo is still a bit pricy, although it is coming down a bit. Good luck.

Nothing wrong with them and as you stated wearing one of them doesn't pull your pants down. You don't have to keep thinking about where it is and it's position. I carry my 442 everyday in a leather shoulder holster with 3 speedloaders. It is so light and easy to carry I never leave it at home. If going into the big city, I carry one of my mag fed guns. Works for me. I feel confident that if someone attacks me as an old 62 year old white guy, it will get them off of me so I can exit the situation. My days of being Rambo are long gone. But you do have to practice with it at reasonable ranges. 80 yards is a bit to far unless you are Hickok!

    these little guys are surprisingly accurate. the triggers are really nice once you break them in. i used to have a 640 pro and believe it or not i had it malfunction and it was because some wear crud on the inside was binding up the action. never had that issue with the 642 though.

  • @whippy107
    @whippy107 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I have the 442, which is basically the same firearm, and carry it way more often than I thought I would. It's a heck of a convenient weapon to have around and I feel everyone should own one. Shooting one of these will help train you to shoot better and the lessons learned at the range with the j-frame will make you a better shot overall with all your handguns. When I bought mine, the option for no key lock did not cost extra.

  • @lindanelson8400
    @lindanelson8400 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I've never had a 642, but I have a model 38, and a 649. If I carry a J frame I generally opt for the 649. It's a 357 mag with the shrouded hammer so it still offers single or double action. Being stainless it's a little heavier, but like anything else you get used to it, and it is comforting to know you've got the extra power. Taking it to the range shooting 38 spcl is very comfortable.

    Once on a range in Charleston WV I was shooting bricks at 50 with my M&P 340 using 158gr lead 38 Specials. I was hitting bricks and splitting them and then shooting the left over pieces. A couple guys at the range were mighty impressed. I enjoyed that. I was hitting damn near every time too. Why? I know that gun inside and out. I’ve shot it a LOT and I carry it all the time. It is right beside me as I tap this comment! These little j-frames are my favorite. As Mr Hickock says the 38 has some guts to it when it connects. You know you have a round that can stop a threat. Yeah. I worry about only five shots. But I carry a speed strip and while not fast at least I have a reload.

    Thank you for the review. I often carry the 640 Pro Series stainless .357 in a Kramer crossdraw. This is a nice rig when driving. l also have a M&P 340 that easily carries in a back pocket in my Kramer pocket holster, or in a jacket pocket.

    Excellent option for people including carrying two of them. Even both of them would be extremely light and easy to carry.

    happy to say I own several Colt D frames, and S&W J frames. my 642 is with me right now as I type this. I am lucky to have the stainless Chief (M60) Bodyguard (M649) and Centennial (M640) all in 38 Special. and I never feel undergunned with any of them. all day I have a Glock on my duty belt, but as soon as I come home a snubby goes into my pocket and the Glock goes into the safe.

    Beautiful revolver! I just bought a 340PD to use in my carry rotation because of how ridiculously light it is; which is handy for when I'm wearing something like sweats. It would be great to see a video on the 340PD just to see what your impressions of it are. 👍

    I'm glad you love this gun. I was able to buy a second hand S&W Model 637 from my boss and I really like it. I'm not a great shot so I appreciate the exposed hammer for an easier first shot. It does have a side lock but I never have a problem with it.

    I've had mine for about 15 years and replaced the rubber grips with old school wood grips. I like wheel guns.

    Nice snubby Hickok!! I bought a 5
    shot snub nose 38 Taurus back in
    the mid 90s and I've never turned
    loose of it, it's a nice little shooter
    and sometimes I load it with bird
    shot rounds and take it fishing
    with me when I go to certain places
    I know there could be water moccasins slithering around!!

    These are the best belly guns for toting in a sticky holster in your pocket. I prefer the 38 special hollow points because they're more accurate than the plus power loads.

    I keep getting more guns but I always go back to my 642. Took it to the range yesterday and shot a bunch of rounds.

    Congrats on you 642 anniversary. I have mine normally as a backup on the ankle to my duty weapon, Glock19. Not a big fan of pants pocket carry but love it in a sturdy jacket.

    I bought a PC 642 last month. After some gunsmithing from a buddy, we finally got it working. It would shoot, but intermittently the trigger would remain stuck in the rear and would only go forward if I manipulated it. Turns out there was a burr that needed smoothing out.

      i had the same problem with my pro series. the first 100 rounds like 1/3 of them didnt fire. the cylinder even locked up. after that and lots of dry fire its great and i'm very confident it will fire every time. s&w is slacking nowadays.

    Nice
    Your New York Reload reminds of Michael Douglas in the Movie Black Rain he is a New York Cop and in the first part of the movie he uses two revolvers when he goes after the bad guys.
    I have a few different S&W revolvers over the years always enjoyed them, my favorite was my Model 19, 4 inch blue steel.

    I just got my CCW here in one of the hardest counties in California. I've been carrying my glock 26 and my 642. I definitely prefer to carry the 642, it's so damn comfortable! I forget it's there. Amazing gun.

    I just bought a 642 Pro without the hole, and yes, it's very neat. It's the only gun I don't want to put out of my hand, its like a fidget spinner.. I also like to load the first 5 shoots with moon clips, less rattling.

    A good loading for this (gel tests show reliable expansion and penetration) is Speer Gold Dot 135 grain +P Short Barrel. I feel well armed carrying this in my 442 (same gun in black finish).
