12g is a low pressure cartridge, so the barrels don't have anywhere near as much pressure resistance as a high pressure 5.56 barrel. Also, you should invest in some shields for your cameras. Even a simple polycarbonate will protect against shrapnel really well.
It's because the AR has a gas system, which allows for back pressure to be released, granted it can still over pressure (obviously). It's was when you suppress a semi they tend to shoot gas into your face.
@@gregorybower2759 it has nothing to do with the gas system. The amount of gas bled off is minimal, otherwise you would get no velocity out of semi autos. 0:59 “thankfully I still have 20-20 vision, despite a tiny explosion that occurred in my face…” Scott, being classically understated yet again… you subtle devil, you…. 😏
Shotguns aren't built to withstand pressures anywhere near as high as most rifles, so it's no surprise that they don't handle barrel obstructions too well. I remember my grandfather showing me a photo once of a shotgun that came into his shop when he worked as a gunsmith in the 1960s. Its owner had stumbled over a fence while hunting and tentpoled his gun without, evidently, realizing it, and the next time he fired it the Damascus steel barrel just... _unwound._ Exactly what the guy thought Gramp, or any other gunsmith, could do about that is unclear, but it sure made for an impressive photograph.
Scott I have been running my Diamondback AR-15 for 3 years now with only one failure (due to ammo) and never really cleaned it. I have around 1700 rounds through it. They are built surprisingly well for the price point. One of the best budget friendly AR’s on the market in my opinion.
@@DiamondbackFirearms you guys make an excellent product for the price point. I’m glad I found your DB15 and have plans to purchase a DB10 in the very near future
Scott, I have three questions I've ways wanted answered... 1. What does your current gun storage look like? 2. How many ants do you have in your range from shooting sweet things? 3. Have you considered bringing in the Slo Mo guys for some of the more epic destruction videos?
Looks like a lot of the obstructions were actually in the AR15's muzzle break. I wonder if it would have gone differently if the muzzle brake was removed and the obstructions were in the actual barrel?
agreed definitely reduced over pressure by a significant margin. also is another advantage of havng a muzzle break that i had not previously considered.
Sensing a missed opportunity here. You're running from zombies, trip, plug your shotgun barrel, get up and fire to dispatch the closest zombie. Will your now banana peeled shotgun still be effective against zombies??? Always wondered what would happen when another round follows a banana peeled barrel.
Okay...note to self. Never question the reliability of an AR-15 ever again. I think the only thing that really prevented it from being effective was ice, for those that remember Garand Thumb's ice test from awhile back. ...Granted, not to say that an AK is inferior, an AK-47 is still the number one firearm I think of when I think "assault rifle," just saying that AR-15s are a lot more tough than people give the damn things credit for. All in all, great lesson, Scott, keep up the good work, chief.
I'm guessing in a gas system like the AR as long as the gas tube stays open and intact enough to divert the excessive pressure out the action they should do okay in testing. With one of his shotgun tests you can see the pressure built up so much trying to escape rearward that it actually unlocked the pump action and kicked the shell out.
AR has such a small bore diameter that it's extremely strong. Also the barrel is quite thick compared to shotgun barrel. Barrel is essentially just a pipe and small diameter pipes can take stupid amounts of pressure before failing.
I thought I noticed the AR gas tube escape in slow-mo at the water barrel. How though could it escape the hand guard? Did anyone else notice the straight metal tube jump up and hit the ground?
I only destroying one gun in my life. Dont leave your laser bore sight in the end of the gun and try taking a shot to check your zero. Haha lesson learned! I was fine but it was a very costly mistake for a 21 year old who had saved a lot of money to buy that gun a week earlier.
@@RedDogRichard2112 Yeah, I was referring to the pain your wallet probably experienced. To damage your brand new gun... yeah, ouch, hehe. Glad it wasn't too bad of an experience.
One time I had a barrel obstruction in my shooting sports club. I was using a 1903 Springfield 30-06 I got in to my ready position and pulled the trigger. What happened next that the barrel exploded and shrapnel came back at me and it was similar to your accident Scott. Luckily I was fine. Luckily that wasn’t the original barrel.
A self repeating life like the AR15 is almost impossible to destroy the barrel by obstructing the barrel. A bolt action rifle by the way, is really easy to damage the barrel by obstructing it.
I think the reason the AR didn't fail is because of being gas operated. The bolt is being opened when the rifle is fired, creating another exit for pressure. Great content, as always. Thank you Scott!
I hope you enjoy the video and thanks for watching!

When you tapped the AR-15 against the bucket. It might have loosened the sand “plug”. 9:40
Scott I have been running my Diamondback AR-15 for 3 years now with only one failure (due to ammo) and never really cleaned it. I have around 1700 rounds through it. They are built surprisingly well for the price point. One of the best budget friendly AR’s on the market in my opinion.
Thanks for your support and for being part of the Diamondback family!
@@DiamondbackFirearms you guys make an excellent product for the price point. I’m glad I found your DB15 and have plans to purchase a DB10 in the very near future
@@bikergod69Nice! Thank you for your support!
Scott: Opens a a can of escargot; me: i can smell this picture.
You got love that a man who had a gun explosion makes a joke about a gun explosion in his intro. 😂
It's the absolute unhingedness of every video that keeps me coming back. Thanks Scott!
Love the glitter explosion from the first shot😂
THANK YOU FOR BRINGING BACK THE EGGPLANT CONTENT !!
To Scott's Dad- You must make Scott an Eggplant Birthday cake on his birthday. And then show us (you got to trick that big boy)😂😂😂
Try a SLAP round and a barrel obstruction, but hide in an underground shelter to do the test.
That why I like this channel 1:58
Earliest I've ever been to a Kentucky Ballistics video, love your work Scott!
Same
Same bro
“I’m glad I hid behind this truck or I would have been bedazzled!” 😂😂😂
Scott, I have three questions I've ways wanted answered...
1. What does your current gun storage look like?
2. How many ants do you have in your range from shooting sweet things?
3. Have you considered bringing in the Slo Mo guys for some of the more epic destruction videos?
Scott you could survive every torture test this universe has to offer with ease
Scott IS a walking, talking torture test..
@@BenBallard13You were talking with his shoulder again, haven't you?
@@durandol it was a spring conversation, re:coil.
Looks like a lot of the obstructions were actually in the AR15's muzzle break. I wonder if it would have gone differently if the muzzle brake was removed and the obstructions were in the actual barrel?
same.. i was wondering if the muzzle brake was acting as a vent, allowing the pressure to escape.. rather than creating its own vents :)
agreed definitely reduced over pressure by a significant margin. also is another advantage of havng a muzzle break that i had not previously considered.
I guess on the other hand, there's a lesson learned that an AR-15 with a muzzle break is unlikely to get a catastrophic barrel obstruction
Alot of the gas can also escape through the gas block further reducing pressure.
This is why they put standoff devices on the muzzles of breaching shotguns.
I don't bother watching Demo Ranch, Brandon Whoever or any of those blokes. Scott rules.
problem with an ar is its only reliable if you clean the action
I only destroying one gun in my life. Dont leave your laser bore sight in the end of the gun and try taking a shot to check your zero. Haha lesson learned! I was fine but it was a very costly mistake for a 21 year old who had saved a lot of money to buy that gun a week earlier.
Ouch!
That's hilarious...glad you're okay 😂
@@GUNNER67akaKelt Thats what my wallet said! I was just startled but fine. most guns are designed to safely catastrophically malfunction!
@@QuestionThings123 Me too! I never made that mistake again.
@@RedDogRichard2112 Yeah, I was referring to the pain your wallet probably experienced. To damage your brand new gun... yeah, ouch, hehe. Glad it wasn't too bad of an experience.
I've learned WAY MORE watching Kentucky Ballistics than I have any other channel lmao
These intros are always different and creative, i love them *and* your videos 😂🤙
Matt should pay him to do demolition ranch intros.
What are you doing step-bullet? 😂
Giving you a clearing 😂
You got me with the explosion, I expected the one in the intro, but 4:45 got me.
You know it's gonna be a good day when you hear: "what's up everybody my name is Scott and you 're watching Kentucky ballistics™"
A self repeating life like the AR15 is almost impossible to destroy the barrel by obstructing the barrel. A bolt action rifle by the way, is really easy to damage the barrel by obstructing it.
Bro decided to spend all his life savings on the first shotgun
Just for it to break
Yeah them 101 Dalmatian Edition shotguns are collectibles and mighty pricey.
12:57 what a nice silencer ehh?
I think the reason the AR didn't fail is because of being gas operated. The bolt is being opened when the rifle is fired, creating another exit for pressure. Great content, as always. Thank you Scott!
