Made this today. We dont sell pickled meat around her thats not in a container so I used regular hamhocks, not smoked. I had to add more seasoning but in the end it was good. Its a little more soupy than what my dad makes but I love the added vegetables! Thank you for the recipe.

I'm not sure that I like Lima Beans unless they are like navy beans so I'm going to try this with navy bean wow and how he made the rice never knew that I always use 2cups water 1 cup rice 20 mins but I'm going to try his method as well because this just looked soooooooo delicious ......yumo

I love some good beans! That dish looks yummy! This is the first time I seen rice cook like that. I normally just boil it out until the water evaporates. I add a little salt, bay leaf, and butter during the cooking process. Or, sometimes I add flavor by sub the water with a meat or vegetable stock. I learned a new way to cook rice to day!

I thought my rice was almost there but yours puts mine to shame. Also long grain jasmine rice is the only way to go for bean dishes like this. Edit: brings back memories of my great grandmother. She loved butter beans and her recipe was so similar.
I know right! I just had to get on someone for telling me that's not how I cook rice. Read the back of the package. When I learned how to cook there was no such thing as read the instructions. lol I saw my grandmother cook rice and when I started doing what she did, I fell in love with it. In my opinion my way of cooking rice is one of the best ways. You won't notice any difference at all. If there was a problem with the way I cook my rice, I would'n't show people how to cook it in a different way vs the package. lol It is good to hear that this dish brought back good memories of your great grandmother.
