I really enjoyed this series of videos.
It shows not only the procedure to solve this breakdown, but gives the general idea about what to expect when you're your own mechanic.
But I guess that most common people out there do not have the knowledge in mechanics and skills needed, this man clearly has, so it's going to be maybe harder that it looks like in this video for most people.
I have some stories to tell with that engine a two similar cars.

As I said earlier I enjoyed this series of videos.
Maybe because some time ago I was in the same situation.
I also enjoy watching videos related with this subject.
I have 2 jeep compass with the same om651 engine.
Some time ago, I had to change the thermostat.
It was also quite a long trip.
It's located way into the engine
I had to disassemble most of the front engine components (some of them not really removed, but moved away, like the coolant-air conditioner pumps in the same body).
I had to clean all the components related with air intake. Intake manifold and its small flaps, the egr, egr cooler, throttle body, etc.
    Because it was almost clogged.
A few months later, I got an engine warning light, P2074, the throttle body failed. I had to compare data with my other jeep compass to realize about the real failure, at first I thought about sensors failure...
But the graph show me the truth.
    In short.
I finally solved all that, and learned a lot about this engine.

First at all, thanks so much for your words man, I really truly appreciate it!
Secondly, I bet it was quite a big job just to get to the thermostat. It does put you down a bit when you’re trying to do a job and things don’t go well, bolts snaps or you don’t have the appropriate tools to remove certain components, but as you said, at the end of the day it’s a learning curve.
My instagram is @ellocorodil if you would like to share some stories and some knowledge, it would always be appreciated! 🤘🏽

One last comment from this tiresome follower. Don't forget after you change your throttle, to reset the dtc, do the adaptation with your scan tool.
Follow the instructions there and do a reset of you ECU after the adaptation process. ( if you also change the MAF, the relearn of it, too).
I also would recommend a couple of cycles with the starter key, without starting. Off >2 position. Before a real start.
    And merry Christmas. 😊

@@ElLocoRodil I'm sorry for being so tiresome, but I need to share my experience in these issues. Because usually after having a problem with the throttle body in this engine, if you drive with it in that condition, the dpf is going to get clogged really fast with soot, specially if you do urban routes. Getting a dtc P2463. There's a quick fix for that. At least for me, with my cheap autocom clone scanner, you can check that the dpf is going to be 400% full of soot ( if you used the right engine oil, the real ash is going to be low), so you can use the cleaning function, only avaliable with the car running. You must follow the instructions and conditions ( under 50kmh speed, 200-400rpm, >80C coolant, > 200C exhaust, etc.)
This engine has no dedicated clean fuel inyector, so I use a trick to speed up the procees, find a long uphill road, try to reach over 300C at the exhaust and then suddenly all the soot will start to burn, getting tempertatures as high as 700C, decreasing from 400% to 30% in a few minutes! I have tried to get lower values, but once the soot is burned, the exhaust temperature decreases and it's impossible further reductions, in fact the soot starts to increase slowly.
Wooow I had to say that!!! Thanks man.

@@carlosbah4623 don’t apologise, in fact I am going to save all this info for further issues, I did get the dpf clogged code, I did manage to force a regen a few months ago, but as you said, my girlfriend only uses it for short journeys now, as she doesn’t work far away anymore, which caused all these issues we are having, or most of them I should say.
By all means if you ever experienced any other issues that I will go through this channel, not hesitate to share.
      Thanks for your support 🤘🏽
