Wonderful cars mate i used to own a Subaru Forester Turbo S year 2000. These are very special cars it went everywhere, and as you said in the video they have loads of room incredible daily drivers. I love the XT's like yours they are going up in value now
@@JustinD93 I love the earlier models too! They get overlooked by a lot of people, but in my opinion once you own one, you will love it forever. You are right, they are going up, unfortunately a few months ago someone crashed into my Forester… so it’s been off the road for 2 months now… but I will be fixing it soon! Thanks for your comment 🤘🏽
@@ElLocoRodilI wish I never sold mine, it was a 5 speed manual too which they are very rare to find. Regret getting rid of it someone offered me a swap for a BMW X5 3.0 PETROL SPORT AUTO. At the time I loved it big lazy auto 231bhp a lot lot quicker than the forester but it was the forester unfortunately the guys I did the deal with ruined the forester unfortunately was gutted spent a fortune keeping it nice. Aww man hope you get it sorted soon 👌 love the Jimny you got it's ace! Could be my next car and old Jimny I know they rust for fun but they have so much character. Do you recommend a Jimny I would only be doing 4 miles a day in it to work and back around town that's it
@ it is hard to someone ruin something you put so much time and effort into it… but unfortunately not everyone looks after the cars the way we do. I am hoping mine will be back in action by May 🤞🏽 Thanks a lot man! I do love my Jimny, they do rust easily 😂 but they are so much fun to drive mostly if you doing short journeys, they warm up quickly and they are good in fuel too. My Jimny is mechanical transfer box, I heard the electric ones cause more issues, so I would go for an earlier model in my opinion.
@@ElLocoRodil yea it's annoying I'm a through and through petrol head from superbikes to all sorts of cars i love it! I'm a jap car man mainly they are just well built and reliable aren't they, just a shame they all rust. Yes I've heard about the transfer box. I'd be looking at a very early Jimny if I can find one but most are rotten dude unfortunately. MX5's are incredible cars I've had a few of them extremely reliable, drift for fun and cheap to run. I don't enjoy sitting in low cars anymore though 🤣
I have a 2008 2.5XT PPP, I have kept her pretty much stock apart from slightly lowered suspension. The centre pipe looks like it will need to be replaced for the next MOT and my MOT tester thinks the H&S centre pipe will still be MOT friendly. It releases the burble and probably drops it an octave.
I ended replacing the centre pipe on mine too, I am an MOT tester so I got access to the emission equipment 😂 so I can test if it would pass or not, if you go to my channel you will find the video where I replace the centre pipe and the 3rd cat, it does sound pretty nice in my opinion! Thanks for your comment and I hope you keep that Forester going! 🤘🏽

Did you have to remove the one side of the sub frame? I can’t get this old one out
@@dylansmith3 I ended removing both sides of the subframe rails, but it’s doable with just getting one out, it’s a bit more tricky though as you can’t move the anti roll bar out of the way.
Aftermarket parts can be off spec by fractions and it will affect the performance. I use oem parts on my Subaru only. Thanks
@@egx161 Thanks for your comment dude! I always use oem or at least as much as I can, definitely the way to go
Great video. Interesting to hear how you found the car, I had a similar experience too. I was never a big Subaru head, but something about the Forester really appealed to me. Love mine, the only thing I miss about my old car (mkV Golf diesel) is the fuel consumption 🙈 Thanks for solving the mystery of the ‘Power’ button on the auto and the mystery smell of burnt oil after a drive 👍🏻

this is one of the few videos showing what to expect with 20 years of rust (I’m in Canada). I bought new rubber bushings in case the existing ones were cracked, or need to be destroyed to be removed, and also a new long bolt, just in case the existing one is rusted beyond redemption. Thank you.

great job! On the differentials its always good to open the fill plug before opening the drain plug.. new model has nylon seals on the fill plug, hopefully that will seize less..
@@JohnnyTheCache yes, you are right, I have got that comment a lot haha, normally I do remove the drain beforehand, but I was a bit too excited this time and I didn’t do it that way. Hopefully the new ones are easier to remove and to not worry about this issue. Thanks a lot for your comment! 🤘🏽

Great video. Thank you very much. My 2010 Subaru Forester has a sunroof. It is stuck in the fully open position. I tested the switch. Seems to be working. The glass moves forward about 4 inches and then won't go any further. Do you have any idea what I should check?
@@dewanehill1435 thank you for your words! I would start by looking at the motor, as it might be worn and not have enough strength to move the glass, as well make sure the rails are nice and clean, I would lubricate the moving components to see if that helps the mechanism to move more freely too.
@@ElLocoRodil , I tested the switch and the motor last night. Both operative. I used an allen key and tried to manually close the glass, but it is stuck at the same place it stops when using the motor. My guess is something broke inside and is blocking the tracks. If it was debris, I think it would have moved when I torqued it. How do I check the tracks when it is all the way open. The procedures I saw said take the glass off, but it is inside the compartment.
@@dewanehill1435 to check the rest of the tracks you will have to drop part of the roof lining, in my case as you saw on the video, there was a recall. But the best option if you wanna check it in depth, you will have to drop the roof lining to check the mechanism all the way, but I would take the glass off first, as it might not be that far back the damage.
@@dewanehill1435my eldest cracked mine, it then wouldnt work correctly and kept getting stuck, you need to clean the runners where the sunroof slides back, I had abit of plastic debris snapped off something jammed in place, it's worked fine since.
@@maybenot6075 , thanks for your video. It was very helpful. I ended up taking the headliner down, removing and replacing the track. Not a quick or easy job, but it is like new.
Thanks for the video m8. I'm over in the states and my 05 BP5 Legacy wagon is having stiff steering as well. I've narrowed it down to that ujoint bushing for the steering shaft. Which at 200,000 miles, I definitely think would have to be replaced Cheers~

I never would have expected the brake lines to be run through the interior. Very interesting,
@@akaHermanSnerd that is what I thought haha. Apparently one of the safety recalls is brake lines, basically the recall is for the ones coming out of the car and going towards the rear brakes. I suppose it is one way of protecting the brake lines by running them inside the car haha.
How many kilometeres for change oil again? And air, diesel and oil filters? At same time? Castrol 5w30 A5 is a good oil?

Better to do the alignment every 100K km. It'll prevent premature wear on the tyres and have less stress on the associated parts. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for your comment! I would even recommend to get the alignment checked every time you change tyres, as a precaution.

Highly dangerous doing this with out axle stands at least one as depending on that jack alone is too much risk for comfort, one wrong move and your dead .
That is worst case scenario, my jacks are checked regularly, at same point I had the wheel under the car, so it would not have come down further than crashing the wheel, but I could have taken more precautions, you are right on that.

Greetings from Ukraine! I’m driving the same Forester 2.0XT and recently I’ve installed both catless uppipe and 3 inch down pipe. I’ve also have the same Prodrive catback and tried at first straight middle pipe, but as for me the sound was very loud and rough. So I’ve returned the middle stock box as it is also pretty straight and now very pleased with the sound. As for me catless 3” dowpipe, stock center pipe and Prodrive catback is ideal for petrolhead daily. Thanks, mate, for your content and wish you luck and further growth!!
Thanks so much for your comment it means a lot to me! I have on mine a catless up pipe but stock down pipe and cat, I am a bit concerned as you say to make it too loud to daily, so I will have to see when I replace it if I am happy with it or if I will go back as you did and let the mid box in.
