- The upgrade Tesla Model 3. Also known as the refreshed Model 3, or model 3 highland. It's a great vehicle. I love it! But I'm not getting it. This is why.

People can 100% tell the difference
He said most normal people, as in non-Tesla enthusiasts. He's right about that, not a huge difference in body style.
This dude is a few fries of a happy meal.
The lack of stalks was a deal breaker for me, and a lot of people here in Europe. We have tight roundabouts everywhere, and it's extremely difficult to use the new turn signal buttons on the wheel while at the same time turning it a lot in tight roundabouts. You need to first blink into it, and then out again when exiting. It forces you to always look down at the wheel in a critical situation, which is not safe. They are as you say also a bit nonresponsive at times. I found that I often had to press twice.. It is also far to easy to press the wrong button, and there's no way to actually know if you pressed the correct one without (again) looking down at the screen to confirm. With a stalk, you'll know if you pushed it up or down.
After using this for a few months in the new model S I found it so annoying to use, because of all the tight roundabouts all over the place, that I decided not to get the new model 3, even though I've had my eyes on one ever since the rumors of the new highland first appeared.
This design obviously isn't much of an issue in the US, because they mostly use intersections, and the few roundabouts they do have are very large, requiring less turning of the wheel. This only really becomes a problem when you need to turn the wheel a lot, using the hand over hand movement.
I'm American and 100% agree with you. They took "minimalist design" to a stupid/annoying level. However as you said, for us here its not big deal and definitely worth the upgrade from the old model to the new one for everything else it offers
I'm pretty sure you do not have to look down every time you need to use your blinker lol. That's like saying I need to look down every time I need to adjust my volume or change my song
@@iamworthy1302 Not if the wheel is straight, but in tight roundabouts, which are everywhere here in the EU you need to turn the wheel more than one full rotation using the hand-over-hand movement and the buttons will move around with the wheel. When you need to press the button while turning the wheel this much, you simply have to look down because you won't know where it ends up until you look.
I used a model S for years and had no problem changing song or adjusting the volume on the wheel, but whenever I tried doing it while at the same time turning the wheel, it became utterly impossible. Volume up became volume down, then volume up again. Forward became backward and backward became forward, and then forward again, if you know what I'm saying? It's very confusing to operate when you start rotating the wheel. If you only turn it say 45 degrees in either direction, it's not a problem.
It would be like trying to operate the AC controls on the screen, and at the same time having the icons bouncing around on the screen, never staying in the same spot.
In the US there are mostly intersections, so you can engage the turn signal with the wheel straight before you start turning. The few roundabouts they do have are usually rather large, requiring less turning of the wheel.
In the EU we mostly use roundabouts instead of intersections. Many of them are very small, requiring you to turn the wheel a lot. You must first blink into the roundabout, and then again when exiting a few seconds later.
The model 3 has previously been very popular among Norwegian driving schools, but now many of them have started banning the new model 3 because they say these new turn signals are a safety hazard in roundabouts, and they can't have a car that causes their students to fail their test in roundabouts. The government is also looking into it.
@@iamworthy1302 I heard the company that makes the s3xy buttons are working on stalks

Great review! Two of the more hyped omissions are the quieter window/ roof glass upgrades as well as the new suspension. There's also improved sound system and increased range. Those alone are reasons to upgrade from older SR+ & LR.
They also fixed 2 flaws in the rear. The rear taillights are now sealed and doesn't have the weep hole. The second is it now has 2 motors to lift the trunk. thanks for sharing
the rear taillights are still having the issue of condensation getting through
@@hard1172 the new highland? I checked and didn't see any holes on the one I looked at.
Your red model 3 performance looks fantastic !
Why would they release a new performance model that is worse than the previous model?
Common sense should tell you that is not how the world works..
As someone who owns a highland i can 100% tell you nearly everyone notices the difference. A like of oh shit, what is that. Going through the drive through is always a wow what is that conversation as well. Not that i got it for that reason, it was just the same price as the reg one so why not🤷🏾♂️ I'm coming from a tuned 340i and realized I'm never gonna race so the 0-60 time is useless to me.
Thanks for your perspective. I figured this is kind of what I would think too. Given you already have heat pump and high range, no big reason for you to change. I'm still on the fence of upgrading my '18 Model 3. Biggest wins for me are: efficiency, ventilated seats, and screen latency.
2018 to 2024 would be a massive upgrade. would be like upgrading the iPhone X to the iPhone 15 or something similar.
My 2018 has 30k miles and still feels brand new 😭
I like the lighting that you have there.
Gosh I love it, but lack of stock for turn signal and gear shifter are such a nonstarter to me. I wish they didn’t do that.
Great Video!
Thanks
But would you get the Highland model if you didn't already have a Performance model?
Why are people upgrading cars like it's phones? There's no need to change phones every two years, but cars? Are we crazy?
The level of consumerism is reaching absurd levels.
Agree. Before I bought my Tesla I had a Lexus for 13 years. I work from home and drive 15 miles a day if that. No need to upgrade my car every 3-5 years. I'd rather invest.
As the owner of a SR Highland I am very sure, and I hope so, that I will return the car after a 4 year leasing to get a never version or a model y
Jeremy has came a long way…remember his Kinetic blue Chevy Volt Premier👍
lol 😭😭😭
@@jeremyjudkins the Volt is a great car👌still have my 2018 Premier
I’ve upgraded my computer on my Tesla suspension and some of the speakers added ambient lighting. I’m pretty much done and btw the new model 3 and my older 3 can’t really tell the difference in ride quality
Have you guys heard the leaks about the new M3P? Apparently not.
What were they thinking with those turn signal touch buttons? That's the dumbest idea they could come up with. Whoever thought of that should be fired.
New performance 0 to 60 in 1.9 sec, better seat etc etc
They really messed up on some of the advancements that they implemented on the upcoming models the gear shifting now on the monitor but decided to put turn signals in the steering and the fog lights being gone
As soon as performance is available to order in Phoenix I'm getting it!! Stealth Grey black interior. First EV. Super stoked🎉🎉🎉
We sold our second vehicle in January, and I gave her my 2018 LR Model 3 for what her vehicle sold for. Currently without a vehicle awaiting the 2024 Performance M3
Did you order? I’ve been so close all week
@@willywonka2164 I ordered as soon as I heard it was available. Ended up being slightly less expensive than my Long Range 2018 was back when the Model 3 was brand new.
nice testla wall thing
I like the old model better
you say " I'm NOT getting the upgraded Tesla Model 3 highland " but it is in your garage ! don't understand
Either a rental or his friend’s car
Also it has HW4
Face lift model 3 is way better than the pre face
Oh yeah! Trust me people can tell the difference and they do care. Just like u said ur car will be the flip phone and the new one will be the apple latest phone
My guy… the differences are not enough to even tell…what ? Slimmer headlights and more cloth in the interior ? That’s it ?
@@ranerhodes6712literally everything, stop pretending to think that’s no distance at all whatsoever. You even acknowledged that it’s completely different
@@theadventureinsider slimmer headlights, some light 'strips' inside, & identical looking tail-lights (which only reveal their 'difference' when the trunk is *open* ) is not "completely different." 🙄
Only people very familiar with the Tesla are going to be able to pick out the difference. The primary visual change is just the headlight profile.
Good info. But you comparing apples to oranges. Performance to base model unfair. Yeah who would go performance to base. You forgot to mention suspension and noise improvements.
Apparently FSD Beta is also enabled on the newnew Model 3 already as confirmed by a rep
The loaner didn’t have it or premium connectivity which was disappointing
trade it for my Leaf please. i would want it..

Thank you loll 😂
we took delivery of a highland as our first Tesla mid-January. not sure what the fuzz is all about. so bland. it is now on its 4th week, and yet, we only logged less than 100 miles (148km on the odometer). shows you how much we love driving it (sarcastic); German cars have a very good driver connection to the road, solid feel, driving experience, and overall performance compared to the Tesla. Just an honest opinion.
You took the words out of my mouth. I also have a Red M3P.
OH MY GOD PUT ON LONG PANTS
for what? lol I live in Florida

i have not watched, but not sure why you are comparing M3P with slower model. It is like comparing BMW M3 to a BMW 320d or 320i. they are different cars.
But I’m not driving them I’m comparing the physical qualities for now until a performance comes out in the refresh
@@jeremyjudkins I agree the BMW M3 will be a much better car than the Performance.
