1/4 Mile Drag Strip: 2024 Tesla Model 3 Performance - 9 Runs in all Modes

- It's finally time to attend New England Dragway with my new 2024 Tesla Model 3 Performance. Arrived at the dragway with 93% charge and about 1200 miles, still on temp plates :)
I did 3 runs in Sport Mode and averaged 10.969 @ 122.29 mph. After that I tried Sport Mode with Slip Start and ran 10.982 @ 121.95 mph. Track Mode did prove to be slightly slower at 11.103 @ 121.05 mph. Last set of 3 runs averaged 11.05 @120.9mph. Finally you'll have to watch to the end to see just how slow Chill Mode is!
I raced a fast Corvette C6, a purpose drag built Foxbody, many lifted Diesels, and more!

A 10 second car for a bargain, Luxury enough for most and all the free updates and tech you expect from tesla so your car never really feels out of date. Love this car.
Thanks for the runs man. You’re the ONLY guy who legit posted actual track runs on his car. Great job. I preferred the second video with the details. The starter lady got a lil aggressive with the gloves issue. She had to see your prior runs and know you’re not into the 9s. Great job on the vid.
Thanks for the detailed reply.
I'll probably choose to edit my next trip to the Dragway somewhere in the middle timeliness
FYI...for best performance you want your batteries nice and hot. with that said, Track mode cools your batteries, Insane mode slightly warms them up, for best results stay in Insane mode and plug in a charging destination so the car starts heating up your batteries (15-20 mins before your run). This will give you the best results. using this method people have ran 10.75s @ 125mph.
Great content, I finally subscribed, keep it up.
Sadly I can't control the weather. I'll go again when it's nicer out.
@@Intervention302 I think you misunderstood me. What I said has nothing to do with weather. When you set a charger as your destination to obviously go and charge your battery, the car starts heating up the pack for optimal charging when you get there. Plugging in a charging destination is fooling the car to heating the battery pack, even though you're not going there. If you do this 15-20 mins before you start your runs you'll get better performance since the car performs better on hot batteries rather than cold. Hope that helps. cheers.
@@Intervention302 I dont think he was talking about the weather
I think you may have missed where I said I did that. That's why I was confused. I edited it in a way to keep the video moving forward so I didn't go into too great of detail
I preconditioned the battery for about 15 mins and burned off 2% while doing it.
That run was my first and was the fastest of the day
@@Intervention302 my bad then, completely missed that. Thanks for the correction.
Toreto: You owe me a 10 second car...
Paul Walker: Ok, let me order you one it'll be here in a few weeks.

Awesome man! Thats just crazy! A $48k daily driver sedan running high 10’s😂
Times are changing for sure.
Absolutely crazy.
For those wondering the performance of the new model 3 highland, you just answered that in spades. Always enjoyed your vids man, appreciate the info!!
I love how that always works. I’m gonna go to the track maybe do 3 runs. Starts racing and hits 9 runs! Cool video
Rain held off just long enough. One rain delay
That chill mode run made my entire day ROFL
Felt like it took 2 mins to make a pass
@@Intervention302 great showing
WOW! What a surprising end to the race.
I would never have imagined that the Tesla would win in Chill Mode. Fun surprise.
Thanks for the updates.😃
Truck must have been confused haha
Thank you, you’ve just saved me a trip to the drag strip. Those ice cars you beat, the owners are now going to go off and spend huge dollars to catch up, or if they’re smart, they’ll just buy a M3P or MSP.
All of your videos are well done with good contents and insights.
Thanks man. It helps having prior EV experience with my last model 3
“Will he come around???? Nope.” 😂😂 I got mine last week, I’d love to get some slips like that!
The 60-130 times aren't "that" quick with this car, so a lot of V8 and boosted cars can come around on the big end.
But I think he let out. He wasn't going to catch me regardless
Just got my VIN# today! Can’t wait to take delivery of this bad boy!!
You're going to love it bro
its a bad girl not boy!
I can tell you played the Division with the crafting bench. 😂👍
Can't wait for my M3P.
I know who to connect with when things go dow.🤣🤣🤣
I tried to make sure I didn't show the other side of the office 🤣
Yeah man the V8 guy,,, can't beat em, join em 😂😂
For daily drivers... Nothing compares man.
You get 500hp that runs 10s, AND something equivalent to around 125MPG.
Thank you so much
Glad you enjoyed
Thanks for the video. Please try to include more video comparisons (different angles perhaps) between you and the vehicles you race. I just ordered mine yesterday with expected delivery between July and August.
Hard to do that when you go solo, but I understand l
Fun stuff!
Nice video bro congrats on a beautiful car
Thanks for watching
Great data, thanks for sharing! I plan to do some autocross. They do have a 330ft drag strip by me so I might go play with it here. Time to make some TH-cam videos soon.
Thanks, very insightful!
Sad we do not get this version in Europe.
Man I'd love one of these for a DD
I love the fact that we live in a a world where the drag way ladies says you need to wear gloves because y will run 1/4 mile in 9's - My God - in my day 9's were reserved for muscle cars with slicks...new era boys - great videos thank you for sharing!
You used need a cage if you ran 10’s. I spent 30k building my Civic back in 2005 to run 10’s.
NHRA Approved tracks in 2024 allows completely stock legal production cars to run no faster than 9.0 and 150mph if you don't want to put in a roll cage.
Cool to see you race up against other vehicles, nor much of that on youtube yet!
Happy to provide
Terrific job hitting the green lights. Yes, fantastic times for the money, I remember when a 13 second 1/4 mile was something to rave about!. Sounds like the battery holds up over the runs.
The car is quiet and comfortable out on the highway as well! Finally, I bet Tesla engineers could program a dragstrip mode that would hit the green light with no delay, just for grins of course.
The trick is to smash the throttle one or two ticks after seeing the 3rd amber. You absolutely have to smash it BEFORE seeing the green come on. If you wait to see green, you're behind.
Average RT was 0.150 second for me. Quick for a regular dude, but not good enough to be a real racer.
I never thought about that. Tesla could use it's Vision and AI and smash the throttle at 0.001 second. Now THAT would be interesting
13 seconds was never something to rave about lol.
I grew up in the early 80s when 14-second cars were something to rave about. 13-second cars were unheard of until the late 80s when the Grand Nationals showed up. In the 90s 13-second cars were more common but still considered very quick.
Great video. I love when evs beat the icers.
Oh yeah? Well if it was a 300+ mile drag race with no charging stations and only fuel stations then who would win?
@@shanecornell - Do you understand how ridiculous your comment is?
Why not a drag race to the moon?
@@davidrandall2742 whoosh^
@@shanecornell Yes, the fact that this page is about the 1/4 mile seems lost on you.
Thanks for sharing the data! Any plans to run 18” wheels/tires in the future?
I'll be looking to get snow tires for sure. I'm undecided if I'll make the Oem 20s the snow wheels and tires and upgrade to nicer Forged wheels for the summer. However the factory wheels are really nice.
So I'll probably get some knock off 18s and make those the winters. The car will likely trap 1-2mph faster on 18s. My guess
I was just about to ask the same question
Turning the camera on to see behind you is smart 😭😭
Got to use what Elon gave us to use :)
For all EV, better battery performance mean better power for top SPEED. It wont affect so much the torque because torque depend on motor current limit and not battery current. That's why you can still get full torque at 5% SOC at low speed because rpm is not high enough to require full power yet. So a good warm battery will improve how long your torque can keep up during the acceleration. ( for exemple, double the speed for the same torque = double power. Resumé: The better the battery performance the better your full torque will be present at higher speed during acceleration. 😉 That's also why the 0-60ft is not affected by battery SOC... you can still get the same 60ft with a 100% battery than a 5% battery because the 60ft speeed is not high enough to require high kW to your battery because you are at low speed.
Any chance you test drove the long range highland as well? I did and loved the ride.
I am a little worried the performance, even in comfort mode will be way stiffer of a ride.
Your experience? thx
I haven't driven a Highland LR.
I'll say in comfort, my Performance Highland is a reasonably amount smoother than my 2021 LR
Good to know THX. Nice content
that Foxbody ran an 8 😮
You sure about that?!?
Great video! When you say sport mode you mean insane mode right?
Acceleration = Insane
Ride and Handling = Sport
Nice! ⚡️🇺🇲
🤙
A trick is to "navigate to supercharger" to preheat battery. If you buy s3xy buttons or s3xy knob, you can activate battery heat and look at battery temp.
You can then use a phone as a digital dash
I did precondition the battery, I spoke about that, but didn't realize I edited it out.
I preconditioned for 15 mins before the first run. That run ended up being the fastest of the day
@@Intervention302 ok, yes, the problem with track mode for dragracing is as you noticed: it cools too much.
Optimal accelleration I think is around 40C +-. Track mode is more usefull for a track with curves, where you will generate more heat.
But the car will cool off anyways after a pull 🙂
Performance that close even after using 10% of it's battery is impressive
Yes the car is incredibly consistent
*i think this car can go much faster if you have 18” rims and the driver is light weight like 150 pounds*
I look fatter in the photo/video than I really am... I'm 192lbs
Do you have a dyno close to you? I have my m3p but no where around me has a dyno. Can’t find any of us to put it on one yet.
Not an AWD dyno sadly.... Well, maybe
@@Intervention302 I’m still saying it’s well over 510hp
Interesting this new m3p seems to only use about 1% per 1/4mile pass, whereas a plaid uses close to 2% battery soc per pass. 👍🏻
Bear in mind... 500 Vs 1000hp though. So makes sense.
Plaids battery also has around ~20% more capacity
Plaids typically use 3% SOC on each 1/4 mile run consistently.
Also the Plaid has three motors so there are more motors pulling energy from the pack; the M3P only has two (new design) motors, if I remember correctly.
Awesome! Was this somehow under 50K out the door in red?
For the first week yes, back on 4/23
Now only gray applies
@@Intervention302 Thanks! You're going to upset some Mustangs with that thing.
Almost as quick as the Model S Long Range (non Plaid), which runs 10.8 at 128.
72,900 Vs 47,900
And the best part is you didn’t need overnight parts from Japan
I need NOS, 2 of the big ones....
and Harry I need them by tonight....
Very fast for a factory car but why didn't you run it in INSANE mode or was there a problem with this setting ?? Thanks
It was in insane for 8/9 of the runs
@@Intervention302it was confusing because you kept saying sport mode lol thanks for clarification
Pls make a reaction video of people being in the m3p for the first time, to see peoples reaction to the 2.9 0-60
Coming soon
Teslas are like the quiet guy whose opinion actually matters whilst the loud mouth ICE vehicle is spouting off about how great he is and shouting everyone down. Love a snarly motor too but they used to represent speed.. not so much these days
why sport mode run insane
How you liking that color
Need to wash it soon, but I love it
Like to see the Canadian version vs the American version. Apparently Canadian version has less power
Quite a bit less actually.
@@Intervention302 really disappointed about that.
No Insane mode was run? Also I want to see it against BMW M3
Every run but one was done in insane.
That hatch in the 9’s?
Clean Fox ran a 9.8 I think. I'll look at my slip
The 2x 11 runs were the only runs in the left lane.
Didn't actually consider that.
Left lane at this dragway, I've always hated. Hard to hook up.
It's like ice in my Cobra
@@Intervention302 Could be something, could be nothing. Unfortunately you'll have to go back to the track and do some more testing!
Did you kick it in insane mode?
All runs in insane mode, minus the chill mode run
@@Intervention302You mentioned sport mode though in the videos. Were you talking about the suspension?
When you say sport mode, did you mean Insane?
No...
Acceleration is Insane. Options are chill, normal, and insane
Ride and handling is Sport. Your choice is Comfort and Sport.
Two different settings under vehicle dynamics
Go drake maye!
I'm pretty pumped man
@Intervention302 patriots Nation for life bro! We'd totally jam. P365Xl too. That was a great video you did.
How did you get red for 48k?
Opening day the MSRP was 52990 allowing the $2000 red to qualify for the rebate.
MSRP now is 54990
@@Intervention302 dammit
Awesome data collection, thanks for sharing. I originally misread the title to your video, my apologies. Unfortunately I had to REJECT DELIVERY of my Ultra Red 2024 Model 3 Performance today due to imperfections in the paint! th-cam.com/users/shortsUrX49amd0Tc
So is he confusing sport mode and insane mode?
Longer video describes it more.
8 runs were in insane. 1 in Chill.
All runs done in sport mode for suspension and handling
Slower in track mode 🤯
You'd be 10.8 if you were 150lbs!
Yeah I can lose a few pounds. Flame suit makes me look fat. But I'm 5-9 195lbs
@@Intervention302 I'm 210 so I'm gonna be 11flat. Lol
pls race a Bmw m5 or m8 🙏
2021 BMW M5: This model has a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8 engine with 600 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque. It can complete a quarter-mile in 10.9 seconds at 129 mph
Says Google.
So looks like almost exactly equal to the Tesla M3P. But the BMW would definitely pull up top.
Tesla does ok for 48k Vs 120k
@@Intervention302 100%, I just want to see a race between the two. Since the M5 has always been my dream car, but I just ordered a M3P last month. So i want to see how it holds up
you're in insane mode not sport mode. Your handling is in sport mode, IDK why you keep repeating that through your video tbh
Sport mode impacts traction control it's important.
rip gas performance car
EVs make the absolute best daily drivers
Nah there's still something that EV's don't have which is sound and gear changes, I test drove the new m3p and hell it's fast and mind boggling fast off the line but still prefer say a RS3 or a M340i
@@OverGrownApe_001 I don’t know what u r smoking , u should compare mp3 to m4
@@kof2001kof I know what I'm smoking considering I have a Iroz 1100hp kit on my RS3 that does high 8's in the 1/4. Faster then a plaid.
