As someone who owns a Tesla I’ll have to agree! I would NEVER use smart summon in public! EVER!!! The only reason I use the feature is to take the car out of my garage so I can lock my garage and house, but that’s it and even then I don’t take my eyes off of the car. The feature needs a lot of work!
I have it also and have had similar experiences. It's a great party trick, but quite embarrassing when you need to go out in the middle of the land and rescue it :)
If you've seen older videos you would see progress. Major progress. Autopilot is more confident with pulling out of parking spaces and more aware of it's surroundings so it's not constantly stopping for people walking by that are a cars length away. It's also more confident with stopping and turning and doesnt move at such a slow speed like it did back then. And this is an SUV. The Model 3 wasn't close to being as confident as the Model X is.
@@mannyislikethat honestly, if this is currently "majorly progressed", I have to ask... did the old version do its absolute best to try to crash into absolutely everything in any way possible? this is laughably bad, it could only be worse if it tried to actively crash into things as opposed to avoiding them.
Smart Summon seems very expensive for the very limited use cases. With most crowded parking lots, there is so much chaos that I would think it would be incredibly difficult for the car to process everything that is going on around it. I really can't believe anyone would pay for this feature right now. Maybe Tesla should call it a charitable donation so at least you could write it off. I would be embarrassed to admit I wasted the money.
FSD had to make improvements also! ASS is "small" part of FSD. FSD is only $99/month,...very cheap. FSD is one of the best autonomous driving softwares available.
This video gave me anxiety 😂 I tried smart summon in a high traffic area as well, and I’ll NEVER do it again. Only in a low traffic area. I found regular summon a lot more useful
This function is VERY useful in case your car is got "stuck" and you can't even open the door to get inside the car. I saw a real story in Hong Kong how a Model S owner spend hours managed to move his car from a JAMMED space.... Life will be MUCH easier if this function is available at that time ;-)

They’ve had smart summon out for almost 2 years now…and up until now it hasn’t improved one bit and I still don’t see it functional on a daily use. They should prioritize updating this function to be more efficient. Hopefully, before the end of next year.

Bruh I swear the summon ALWAYS buggs out when other ppl are around. Hence why I havent used the feature fully in years. Now I just use it to pull further in/out of parking spots
My biggest issue with Smart Summon is I don't think it has a reason for practical use . Normal Summon ( the one you use to get out of tight parking spaces) does have a practical use because that happens all the time. But Smart Summon I don't see having a need for it. If you think about it I think you're supposed to do it if it's raining or bad weather and you don't have to walk to the car. But if you have to have the car in view , most likely you have to be outside anyway to safely. So you're standing in the rain to observe the car coming. Which in the same amount of time you could have just walked to the car. Right now it just seems like it's a neat trick you can show people but that's all.
You can use this like in empty or with no traffic streets, cause the processin is still slow to face like actions that requires quickness, but in sume it's pretty smart
I can imagine how embarrassing it must feel when it behaves the way it did on your video but please keep using and keep in mind that Tedla continues to collect our data in situations like this to better improve.
Yeah that was kind of crazy but it's still a good feature to me though can't know of a car do no s*** like that other than that Kia but That's going reverse and forward which Tesla can also do I like the garage feature when it just go in the garage by itself
What really baffles me is the fact that our grandchildren will be laughing at us when they watch these videos and find out what we thought was cool back then😅.
Here's our goal: with the windows obscured, observers can't tell if a person or the autopilot is driving. As a Tesla owner, I'm thinking it is ten years away. Really.
Have you driven with the newest fsd versions? Because it already is better than the average human driver. Yes you might still need to interdict every once in a while but in my opinion you already cant tell between human or AI.
I had FSD for a month by subscription and I tested the summon MANY times but it always did this 2:30 Always ended up running to the car and shoving in all the grocery in to get out of traffic asap
It would be nice to summon a vehicle miles away to pick you up like an Uber. Maybe the vehicle should just zero in on your cellphone or key signal. Perhaps in the future.
I think it takes safety Into consideration . When there are a bunch of diffrent things going on it takes safety first I think that is what's going on. All the cars and people moving around.
i dont have the car but surely using the pick up function wouldnt go weird if you didnt move, you kept moving so it probably did stop where you initially were
Not bad, but feel it needs the full self driving software to be a little more effective. I am fearful to try it in a crowded area because of pissing people off or curbing a wheel =)
The summon almost always fails in my driveway. I have a ramp at the end of my long driveway. I always like to back up the car all the way to the front of my vacation home so that I don't have to walk up the driveway. Yet, the back camera almost always treats the ramp as a wall behind the Model X and the Model X just stops and cannot go any further as I intent it to .... lol So much for camera-based autopilot and summon. I call it features with sure limitations. Luckily, I did not pay for the FSD, I bought my Model X as pre-owned from Tesla website and it came with FSD and it was already $18,000 cheaper than a brand-new one without the FSD.
He's in a Model X with Hardware version 3. Trying to use smart summons in the rain. He also kept moving from the original targeting point. You have to have strong cellular connection considering this tethered through the app on the phone. So, if he's getting 4G and 3 bar as an example; he is not going to get a good experience out of Actually Smart Summons (ASS).
Questions: - what happens if you keep pressing the button and there's traffic in front of it? - can you not just press the button once and just wait? - have you tried using it in a make shift, dirt parking lot (e.g.: imagine you go out of town and there's just a makeshift parking lot with rows of cars and it's not really a road so it's not going to show up in Google Maps or something)
If there's traffic in front of it or if the cameras/sensors detect pedestrians walking across the lot, it will wait for them to clear then continue. As far as the button I think it just depends on what your trying to get it to do. On mine if I'm having it park in a tight spot, I have to hold the direction arrow ( forward or back ) and releasing it will stop the car. But if I hit the smart summon ( go to target, or come to me ) I only have to press it once and it does everything by itself without holding anything. I honestly think it also has to do with which software version of Autopilot/FSD you have, and the vehicles surroundings
i find it super annoying, while it works well when no one is around... people walking always walk up in front of the car to see why theres no driver.. stopping the car, then wondering why the car is in the way and not moving....
