Rubio is just another example of someone who prioritizes his life more than playing basketball in his older years. Respect him for that, he doesn't have anything to prove.

The case of Kendrick Nunn shows how many players actually come and go in the NBA, because on one hand he was ballin' just a few seasons ago like you said, and on the other hand i actually forgot about him and he hasn't been out of the league long. I hope he gets another shot. I hope all of these guys do
Agree. I also think it shows how injuries that aren't necessarily considered super serious in regular folks' lives can absolutely kill a career that depends on quickness and explosiveness.
Kendrick Nunn was the first example of Heat Devil Magic (random ass role players going off every game) . We didn’t know what was happening back then but we are informed now.

As a Cavs fan, Rubio was instrumental in many cavalanches in those first months of 2021-2022. He was doing amazing things (I still remember his 8 3-pointer game against the Knicks), and he and Love were doing a great job leading the second unit. Following the injury, his 2022-2023 performances lacked the spark he had the previous year. Now, Love is gone, and I think that injury is it for Rubio. I would have loved to have seen what the triple tower system (Mobley, Allen, Markkanen) with a healthy Rubio could have done in a full season.
One of the things that hurt Kendrick Nunn was being a 25yr old rookie. Obviously still very young but had little time to be developed further

John Wall's story really makes me sad man. Me being from the DMV, Wall was like a superhero to me growing up. It was cool to have an arguably top 10 player play for your hometown team and he was very invested in the community here. Wish injuries wouldn't have ruined his career

Some of these guys are suffering from a bit of what some traditional Centers have gone through recently. Teams have less of a need for a PG if he can’t guard other (or any) positions really, shoot really well consistently or have a specialty some sort. The position is becoming slightly less important. For example when you have a Luka, LeBron, Booker and other bigger bodies handling PG duties, why would I need two small PGs on my team? A lot of teams are getting away with just one. Some don’t have any. Again, it all depends on the offense and why defenders they have but, almost none of these guys mentioned have one super special talent that makes up for being “small” and average. This is a business after all. Kyrie is smallish. Not a great defender. But, he’s obviously on a very different tier from these guys mentioned. 🤷🏽♂️

Curry still cooking. Although he is not exactly a PG in traditional sense. Plus he is a rare breed generational talent. But, yeah, nowadays playmaking duty have been taking over by bigger guys.
Statistically speaking - isn't it harder and harder after each draft to maintain a job as an NBA player?

The thing with undersized Guards they're only worth it when they're fully capable health wise and obviously talented. Especially undersized guards who rely on their elite quickness/explosiveness. They can't afford to have lower extremity injuries that zap their overall athleticms even 20-25 percent.
PG is probably to most stacked position on the NBA. It makes sense that a lot of good players fall put of favour quickly... such is life.
I remember Payton getting all the minutes ahead of Frank Ntilikina on the Knicks and doing nothing with them

Nunn is a more successful (basketball wise) Johnny Flynn. Both had massive potential but early injuries ruined them.
Nunn was literally undrafted, Flynn was in the top half of the lottery

When elfrid payton or as we called him the mop was traded to suns during a deadline trade to finish the season, booker got injured and whoever else was there at the time maybe tj warren and for theast 2 3 weeks of the season Payton played out of his mind
He got picked up out of the waivers and helped get 1 of of the guys out of the playoff race in our yearly fantasy league with 2 strong weeks and he stole the 6th spot, and in the 1st round he put up like 200 points and had like 3 triple doubles in 4 games

160 through 3 games maybe with 2 triple doubles but then the magic ran out as he only had 2 games in the finals but i think he still put up like 75 85, which for 2 games from a waiver guy is way more then expected if he had 1 more game this guy woulda won the league with a hail mary waiver pickup from a 4th option PG

Elfrid Payton was so bad that postseason for the Knicks. Thibs would start him and then yank him after a few mins for Derek Rose, who would then stay in for practically the entire game
I believe elfrid payton hairdo affected his shot view early in his career.

i feel like Wall is still a NBA player. he doesn't want to go to D.C because he thinks he can still contribute to a contender, which i agree with.
I like Payton’s game, but he moves a step too slow and is not bouncy. His shooting being as poor as it is makes this unacceptable in the NBA. But in a foreign league where everyone is a little less athletic, he will ball out. I also think he could coach in the NBA someday if he wants to.
As a lakers (and heat) fan, i was sad to see how just one season ending injury completely hindered KNunn's career especially after that Miami finals run. He didn't look the same after coming back from the injury on the lakers and was traded away
Never forget first time I heard about Rubio. I was in high school and I read in slam magazine he was the best 15 year old in world lol I was so offended as hooper because I've never heard of him lol

to sum it up, players that no NBA team wants have only themselves to blame. If Brook Lopez can train his 3 pointer, why cant any other players do the same? Its just whether they are willing to put in effort to train more.

Guard spots are very competitive in the modern league. It's even hard to not "snub" certain guys for All Star selections.
Yo Kendrick could come play here in Australia in the NBL. He would be a superstar and would move to a country that somewhat speaks english
Ricky Rubio always got traded to a bad team, when his previous bad team is showing signs of getting back on track.
Payton was drafted as elite defender, but his defense in nba was always dogshit. And ofc, he never developed any sort of jumpshot from any range.

Really didn't understand the hate Ricky Rubio got throughout his entire career people say he's a bust but I totally disagree. His greatest skill translated very well into the league and he played 10+ years in the league and is productive everywhere he goes so I wouldn't say he's a bust

neither improved at all and were on great teams where they 100% shouldve improved and on bad teams where they had extensive PT to improve if they needed PT over following by example. they both lucky to last as long as they did. pause

As a Heat fan, Nunn had an amazing regular season. Then Fell Apart in the playoffs. Then he left for a better contract in LA. Didn’t play much at all. N fell out the Nba after being in Washington.
