Love your videos. I’m living vicariously through you’re travels. I’m waiting for my partner to retire so we can do the same as both of you. I was in Chiang Mai just a month ago, and I thought of your clip on it. Is there a trip to Taiwan? I’m from there and think you would enjoy the experience. A lot more expensive than Thailand and Vietnam, but worth the experience, especially the street food and night markets that they’re known for.
Hi, Nancy. We are planning on getting to Taiwan next year when we return to SE Asia. We love the area that much!! Thank you for watching our channel!! Cheers!!🍻
I haven’t had a chance to comment in a while (work…), great Viet Nam videos - my wife is actually considering Viet Nam! I’m working on using up some miles with a stop in Hanoi (24 hours) on the way to Singapore, how much time should I plan on for traveling from the hotel (intercontinental) to the airport? Also - Da Nang or Hoi An? Thanks and enjoy travel over work!
The city center in Hanoi is about 30 minutes from the airport. If you only have a couple of days we would stay in Hoi An. The Hoi An video will be out next week to give you an idea. Thank you for watching and glad you are able to comment again!! 😀 Cheers!!🍻
Thank you so much for these videos. We are planning a trip to Southeast Asia in 2024 and you are providing lots of inspiration. Any chance you will be going to Bali as part of this itinerary?
That look like a hotdog taco at :45. At least look like sliced hotdogs or sausages in one of the tubs. OK and then it looks like you got a Nutella onion pop tart. Quang noodle? Hi, Dan. Vietnam compares very well with Portugal. It is less expensive, and the food is great. The only problem is that you can only stay for 30 days without having to leave to update your visa. Cheers!!🍻
very cool video. Looking forward to your Vietnam expense report. I am retiring next year and going to hit the road as well but given the state of the markets/economy at the moment I am researching more of my Plan B destinations (i.e. nice and cheap) 😅 Any plans to hit India, Nepal or Sri Lanka?

Another quality video guys. Good overview of the street food and beer scene in Vietnam. You are trying all sorts of new dishes in your travels. Any issues with any of them? Like sickness or food poisoning? Is this food scene better than Thailand? Always appreciate your insight.
Hi, Robert. We haven't had any problems at all. The street food in Thailand is amazing and we would pick Thai food over Vietnamese. However, we really enjoyed Vietnam and plan to return next spring for another tour. as always, thank you for watching!! Cheers!!🍻
hi new sub here, been to VN several times, even i avoid the street food abroad unless i see them cook right in front of me, my friend actually got sick n went to hospital from street food in 90s
Vietnamese and Thai food are both incredible, but Thai *street* food is better. There are often whole markets totally dedicated to food in Thailand, while in Vietnamese markets there's only typically a few random stalls here and there (as you obviously know 😂). I remember having that 7 Bridges beer a craft beer festival in Hanoi! I miss all the cheap craft beer there.
If you happen to be returning to Saigon soon I highly recommend Ho Thi Ky night market in Dist. 10. Its a whole street selling nothing but street food like in Thailand. There are several food markets around Saigon but you gotta go out of dist. 1 for them.
@@Huyenmeow That sounds amazing! We lived in the North, and explored mostly just Northern and central Vietnam while we we there. We actually somehow didn't make it to Saigon, even though we were there for a year. We will definitely add that to the list. We can't wait to go back to Vietnam again...we miss it!
Hi Carrie & Brian .. I love watching your videos, my wife and I are very similar age to you and we are hoping to retire asap but probably in about 3 years. When we retire we have calculated that we will have approximately £3800 per month, not sure what that is in dollars. Do you think that will be enough to retire on in Phuket and Da Nang taking into consideration all the flights and travel costs? We live in UK. Do you ever go back home to the US Or do you just travel in the winter? We havn't made up our minds yet..
Hi! Yes, we do feel that would be sufficient. Da Nang was considerably cheaper for accomodations, but Phuket had much more of the beach town vibe. We go home twice a year, typically house sitting and staying with family while there. So we do have about $2000 each a year in flight costs for those trips. Happy planning 😊😊
That coconut, peanut dessert looks delicious. I'd recommend taking a food tour like "Steph and Pete" did so they can show you how to find the best places and how to eat the food. The smoking ice cream isn't for taste, it's just for fun because you're supposed to breathe through your nose imitating a dragon blowing smoke out of it's nose/mouth...also, it looks like you waited too long to eat it as all the smoke was gone. You missed cao lau, which is what Hoi An is known for. They also have some of the best banh mi around (2-3 famous shops in the area).
We have a video coming out this Saturday and we highlight Cao Lau. We also had Banh Mi at one of the highly-rated shops but didn't add it to the video. There's just too much good food for one video!! 😀
BTW, what's you location plans for this summer? Our original plan was to spend June-Sept in South East Asia, but getting lots of inputs that eastern Europe, Middle East would be a better option at that time of year because of it being wetter in late sumner, then come back around to SEA in early 24 after Australia NZ?!? Thoughts?
Hey guys! We would agree with that. The best time in SE Asia is Dec. through May. We are heading to Mexico and the Dominican Republic from July until late November before returning home for the holidays. Thank you for watching and safe travels!! Cheers!!🍻

Do you have any problem with food? Even I am Vietnamese but I left the country 30 years ago when I was teen and haven’t come back since. My husband is American and is bit worry about food poisoning or being sick because of bad food. My kids probably would love to try some ice cream or banana pancakes when we are there. I have been watching a lot of videos recently to prepare for the trip. One interesting thing I found there are a lot Vietnam dishes now we didn’t have or heard of 30 years ago.
We haven't had any problems with food in Vietnam or Thailand and we eat street food almost daily. We do not drink the water or eat raw vegetables but everything that we have experienced has been great. Most of what you order is cooked and prepared in front of you. The kids will love the ice cream and banana pancakes!! Thank you for watching and safe travels!! Cheers!!!
Hi Carrie and Brian. I’m a lacto/ovo vegetarian but my husband isn’t. We will be in Vietnam very soon. Did you see many vegetarian savoury options both in street food and restaurants? (I know you both eat meat 😊) Pork and beef seem to predominate there, will I struggle, or will I be living on mostly fruit and desserts. (Sugar). Cheers. ❤
Hi! We did see vegetarian options and vegetarian specific restaurants. But being that neither of us follow a vegetarian diet we didn't really pay a lot of attention to be able to share how much would be available. I do know you can search for restaurants in your area in the maps app and you can specify vegetarian. Soon as I have our Airbnb address I always scope out everything around us ☺️.
My husband and I are excited to begin long term traveling in a year or so, but we are wondering. How is the travel in Asian countries compared to European countries? I know that's a huge question..but very curious.
We haven't had any problems with local transportation and moving from country to country on Air Asia has been very easy as well. Ryan Air is less expensive than Air Asia but the cost isn't bad. The train system here would be equivalent to the Balkan countries. 🍻
Do you guys know if they make any gluten free beers in Vietnam? Any tips for getting your laundry done in Hoi An? Hanoi? Any suggestions for best restaurants for dinner in Hoi An?? We are heading there in about 5 days with kids.
Hi Cindy! Unfortunately we won't be of much help on these. We didn't look for gluten free beer so wouldn't really know if it was an option. As far as laundry, there seems to be laundry services quite accessible, we always try to rent a place with a wash machine, so we didn't need to use them. Hoi An was fantastic and had so many highly rated restaurants. We find searching on Google maps for restaurants is a great way to find ones around you that are rated well. Enjoy, Vietnam is a wonderful place to travel. Cheers
Happy St. Patricks Day! I can tell from the Vlog that food is dirt cheap. Sorry Brian that the smoky ice cream didnt measure up to your expectation. Cheers!
