Local speaking here, I never bring a bag when I do grocery shopping. They often give you plastic bags for free. Never know a supermarket that charge you for it But bring your own bag does help the environment.

THAT IS a fair and right comparison, and see USA's store better or VN's is better? No chance, not even close, for VN in any comparisons, we're all know that
First, Vietnam has many different tier levels affordable to all kinds of income. Most of what is being sold in branded grocery stores can be found at much cheaper prices somewhere with no branding. All of it is sourced from the same place considering it's being locally produced. Second, Vietnamese people usually don't have one income, they're hustling many different way to make money & most of American style spending in the FIRE sector is mostly subsidized so their income is net take-home. GDP is a moronic figure invented by Westerners to justify producing nothing but consuming the world's resources through wars and imperialism. If it was simple as you claimed, you'd literally see people starving on the street like in the Philippines or many African countries 😂 You live in parasitic rent seeking economy so you don't understand how an economy can operate outside the thumb of greedy corporations. That's why in your mind, you have to go to these stores, buy branded products and spend / consume like pigs while being highly indebted. 😅
