I've been traveling to Europe for the past 30 years, never even considered Thailand or that part of the world until I saw your video. We came across your channel when looking at various Thai destinations. Just wanted to say thank you for producing the videos which are informative and entertaining. What we particularly like is that you are modest and respectful unlike some other channels, one in particular I saw the other day actually made me embarrassed to be from the same nation as the person presenting it, and I use that term loosely. Anyhow, I look forward to continuing following your journeys. Have fun and stay safe.
Good to see you both enjoying the Thai food, markets and prices. We loved Chiang Mai and ended up staying 2 months the first time and coming back for another month. I can't wait to go again. Love the food and massages. It looks really calm there from what we experienced.
I was waiting for you to munch on some of those crickets ! I visiting Thailand back in 2007 and sat in a bar with a cold beer and a tray of spicy, crunchy crickets. I can't honestly say they were good or filling but, I guess they're kind of like a peanut snack food to go with beer ! Cheers !
Excellent video, B&C! Loved the slow views so we could really get a feel for the market, and esp Brian being the spicy-or-not guinea pig. 🙂 Keep having fun, and looking forward to the next one!
Thanks so much for watching Marijka! We really appreciate your support and kind words. Brian is a great guinea pig for spicy foods 😂 which seem to be just about everything we try. Cheers 🍻
Okay I LOVED this video guys! I NEEEED that coconut smoothie and that blueberry donut thing! Yum!! We really enjoyed seeing all the choices y’all had and a big thumbs up for NO BUGS! 🤣🤣
Looking forward to Chiang Mai in a few weeks. Thanks for the preview! Squid is in season right now! We are currently in the Southern Thai islands north of Malaysia. Koh Lipe is fantastic, Krabi and then Koh Samui later in the week. Not sure if this area is in your plans, it is incredible.
We do plan on heading down to southern Thailand after our visit to Vietnam next month. We were not a where of Koh Lipe. We are researching now!!😀 Thank you for watching!! Cheers!!🍻
We can for sure see the draw that we kept hearing about Chiang Mai - loving it so far! The fruit is the best I've ever had, can't get enough. Thanks for watching! Cheers 🍻
Hi Carol - I know right! Unfortunately, at the night market, beer wasn't really a thing. We've already shot next week's video and rest assured two-thirty is in there 😊
Love your videos. Was wondering if you would do a video on how you remain health while traveling. Specifically what is your exercise routine and eating habits. Any information would be helpful. Am planning a 2 year round the world trip in next year or so. Thanks again
Hi Jennifer! We've had quite a few questions on that one, especially being here where eating out is what you do for most meals. For exercise, we either do workout videos online, use a gym at our condo when available, or make use of what's around us (like 18 flights of stairs at our condo in Split, Croatia). We also walk almost everywhere we go averaging 5 miles a day. For us eating out hasn't been bad since there are also so many healthy food options. Plus, we eat a ton of fruit! Staying healthy while traveling full-time (but still enjoying the wonderful foods around you) takes a bit more focus, but it's totally doable. Thanks so much for watching!
Hi Dan and Marj! Coming soon - in our next video we cover a bit about the beer scene here in Chiang Mai. Then when we wrap up our time in Thailand we will for sure be doing our cost breakdown which will cover at least three different locations, varying from big city to beach location. Thanks so much for watching! Cheers 🍻
Hi guys Glad you found kao soy , it is one of the best Thai food you’ll ever eat and not many Thais have tried it as it’s mostly in the north , try the Sai krok sausage also I saw it on the grill in your video, there are lots of different types and it usually comes with some raw Chinese cabbage some pickled ginger and some chillies , I love isaan food , enjoy your videos and have a good time Regards Davy 🇹🇭
We will defiantly try the Sai Krok sausage, Davy. We are really enjoying trying some new things, just not the bugs...😀Thank you for watching!! Cheers!!!🍻
Thai markets are the best! Super cheap, and usually quite a few options. The food can be hit and miss, but I don't think we've ever had anything "bad" at a Thai market. We remember having the best coconut ice cream and mango sticky rice of our lives at a random market in Bangkok though. 🤤🥭
Hi, guys!! We see that you have just started a channel of your own!! We will be sure to check it out!! We love mango sticky rice and will be having coconut ice cream very soon. Thank you for watching!! Cheers!!!🍻
@@BrianandCarrie We did, indeed! It'll be a slow climb for the first months for sure, so if you want to throw a pity like, comment or subscription, please do! 😂
Amazing food video and the prices are awesome! I'm a fruity too so I'd probably love all the fresh fruit too! Also, I want to see Brian eat a grass hopper! I know Carrie won't but I think Brian will give it a go! 🦗🤣 Love you both! 🥰
The prices are fantastic which makes it so fun to be able to try so many different foods. The fruit here, oh my goodness, it's the best I've ever had! We buy cut-up fruit every day from a lady right down the street from our Airbnb. Great idea for Brian to eat the grasshopper....I'll be sure to film that!! Love you guys 😍
Hi, guys!! Thank you. We are having a great time and looking forward to Vietnam in the coming weeks. We see that you recently started your own channel! We will be sure to check it out!! Cheers!!🍻
We have found English is quite commonly spoken and when there is a language barrier everyone has been so kind in trying to help us understand. Thanks so much for watching....much more from SE Asia to come😊
Wow! Great video B&C👏🏻👏🏻 All that amazing looking food🤤🤤 How did you not get overwhelmed by all the choices?! Looks like you’re having a great time. Cheers🍻👍👏🏻🙏🙏✌️🤙
We did get overwhelmed! 😆 There are so many choices you can't possibly try everything. We will be heading back this week to experience something new! Thank you for watching!! Cheers!!🍻
hey guys, I love street food as well, everything looks so yummy. I'd like to ask whether they give you fork and knife if you ask them (ofc question related rather to restaurants there). Thanks and enjoy thai food and life.
Hi, Karel. Yes, they do provide utensils other than chopsticks. The 7-11 will even give you little forks and spoons depending on what you are buying! Thank you for watching! Cheers!!🍻
Hi Brian and Carrie! Looked like a fun food market experience! I really am curious if everything is spicy there? If so,I would be a goner! My family jokes that I once said ketchup is spicy. Haha!
Enjoy Southeast Asia! Be careful of dehydration though. The humidity will sap the energy. I like to carry a bandanna around to keep the sweat from making my eyes sting. Great video!
Another great video guys. How are you assured that the "chicken, pork and beef" fried items aren't the "silk worm, BIG silk worm, grasshopper and BIG crickets"? Still waiting for Carrie to be eating insects on sticks! Interesting that English still pretty widely understood from the vendors. Kao Soy is excellent! I get that here in Toronto. Safe travels!
HA! As long as they don't look like bugs, we don't mind. 😀 You won't see Carrie at any point eat a bug 😂. We have not had any problems communicating with the locals. Everyone has spoken some level of English with us. Thank you for watching!! Cheers!!🍻
In Chiang Mai they add sugar to dishes that in Bangkok are not sweet at all. They even put sugar in Lard Na noodles! I went to the Traditional Thai Massage School at Old Medicine Hospital on Wau Lai Road across from the Thai Cultural Center in Chiang Mai. That was in 1999 and I did Traditional Thai Massage in Dallas for twenty years before retiring to Bangkok. I live far from tourist areas and get treated very well. Thailand is known as, "The Food Basket to the World" so there is huge selection of all kinds of food to choose from. Careful, the Thais will steal your heart.
Chiang Mai was such a wonderful experience and we are so incredibly happy we had as much time as we did there. We can totally see why so many come there to make Chiang Mai home. The food was incredible, but we will see our final top pick when we finish our Thailand adventures 😊. I imagine Chiang Mai will come in high on the list.
We are staying in the Nimmen neighborhood and would recommend it. Our Saturday video will cover much of the neighborhood. Thank you for watching! Cheers!!🍻
We have had no issues at all, KJ. Most of the time the food is prepared as we order. It is hot, fresh, and delicious. Thank you for watching!! Cheers!!🍻.
Great. Jeanette and I are in Mexico now but are planning a trip to Thailand late this year, God willing. We love street food too, but because she is seriously allergic to shellfish it would be a major concern as I suspect that they use the same pool of oil to fry everything, unless you have seen otherwise. Roger, Canada.
That's a tough one. There are plenty of food carts and restaurants we've been that fish isn't on the menu soo that would possibly eliminate the crossover. But fish sauce is a very common ingredient so that may be a tough one as well. Thanks so much for watching!!
@Brian and Carrie Thanks so much. She carries two epipens. Believe it or not, we have traveled to almost 70 countries worldwide, and the two countries where we experienced a couple of incidents were the USA and our homeland, Canada. Strange.
Hi, how did you get to Chiang Mai? I was in Bangkok in 2019 in the spring but the heat and high humidity were very uncomfortable. How was the weather when you filmed these videos? Take care 😊
We flew from Bangkok to Chaing Mai on Asia Air. The weather hasn't been too bad really. It is about 80 degrees with relatively high humidity. It cools down at night to about 70 and is very comfortable. Thank you for watching! Cheers!!🍻
Hey Brian and Carrie - How hygenic is everything ? In other words, do you guys ever get sick, like a stomach bug. I know gross, I am sorry for raising it. But do you guys take any preventive measures ? Like carrying an antiobiotic ? I ask because I have a sensitive stomach.
We have not had any problems at all. We choose food trucks that prepare the food as we order it and they are as clean as any restaurant kitchen you may go to in the rest of the world. Great question, it is a concern of many including ourselves before we went. Cheers!!🍻
Love all of the food options in the market. We have heard a lot of others say it's almost cheaper to eat out than buy groceries. We wonder if that is the case due to the types of food Westerners prefer. What is your experience so far?
Hi! So far we are finding everything we had heard about it being cheaper to eat out than cook to be absolutely true. Grocery prices are quite high here and eating out is easily accessible so it's been the way to go. But, if we wanted to cook in, we found the grocery stores to have anything we would need. Thanks for watching 😊
In generally, Thai dishes have two types : First, Single plate just like Pad Thai, Khao Soi ( Noodle & Curry Paste with Coconut milk), most of fire rice and any stuff of Noodle with or without Soups. Second, Shared plate is all about dishes having with family or friends (Most of Asian Culture that differ from western). Curries, thick soups, clear soups or fired meat, Stirred fired veggies are often ordered for having with rice. Because taste is too strong, too spicy for eat without rice. Just like we eat hamburger with no bread.
Glad you are eating the local food as it is the best! When you travelled in other countries you spoke very little of their foods which is a shame. Food is part of every countries culture and should always be experienced. Can I suggest that when you film try to not to rush past things because as the viewer you don't get much out of it.. example... the street food stroll was rushed until you focused in on the food you were buying. I love travelling in Asia and look forward to your future adventures.
Did you guys look at ACA(Obamacare) for your US coverage. I would imagine you could get a subsidy that would make it free to you(We declaRE $60,000 gross income and pay $3/month. I was just watching your video that mentioned healthcare and thought you might be interested.
That is actually something we are going to look into this year. It's a great option to have coverage when home and we could then take US coverage off our global plan which would save us. Thanks for the suggestion 😊😊
Hi guys please don't take this as being a negative comment, but I much prefered your European videos. I realize that you both just arrived in Southeast Asia and that it might take a little while to acclimatize. What is your accommodation like and do you think it is a good value for money? Also cultural differences would be interesting as Europe and the USA are very similar. One last thing how do you like the GoPro 11? Stay safe and I will keep watching. 😊
Thank you for continuing to watch. We understand that by moving from country to country some viewers will lose interest, so we really appreciate it. We will show our accommodations in our upcoming Chaing Mai video. We do believe that we got good value. We really like the ease of using the GoPro 11. Still trying to figure out the best audio but overall, we think that it is working great. Let us know what you think. Thanks again for the continued support, we understand that SE Asia isn't everyone's cup of tea! 😂 Cheers!!
I am a diabetic as well. I lived in Chiang Mai for nearly a year (in 2019). No problems whatsoever. First off, learn the phrase Nit Noy (little bit) or Mai Pet (my pet) which means No Spice. As for diabetes, theres is a ton of fresh veggies, fresh soups without noodles, and meats freshly cooked. Go to Salad Concept in Nimman and order whatever salad you like. If you live for a long time in Chiang Mai, you can hire someone to prepare your food for you (believe it or not!) and clean your home. Super cheap!
Got another little thing for you Brian as said things are spicy, which they can be, So if you say My pet.. My> is thai for no Pet> is thai for spicy So my pet means no spicy in thai Also Nit noy> this means a little bit in thai So if you want a little spice you would say Nit noy pet! Which again means a little spicy Also Chai is yes in thai so if someone wants to do something for you or asks you if you want something, you'd respond with Chai cup!! Which is basically , yes thanks Use Cup if your Brian and Carrie would use ka..or Chai ka.. yes thanks The man always says cup so hello is sawadee cup.. And the lady always uses ka So hello is sawadee ka.. Anyway thought I'd toss that out there ,you may already no this but if not there you go... Brain and I went to the same high school in bham
@@BrianandCarrie 👍 Your first 2 videos in Asia I think were the first without reference to. We've been watching in order from the very first, hitting that thumbs up all along the way. 😊 We're on the North Oregon Coast--more rain than your former Bellingham WA base.
One thing that most tourists do that look like having no manners when buying some food and standing there blocking traffic just to continue taking videos for TH-cam no care that they blocking traffic but see some of them buying food and then going finding some places to eat
Do you worry about eating fresh fruit, and smoothies? I read that they wash fruit with thier unfiltered water. I am curious if the ice for the smoothies is also unfiltered water. I will be coming Dec 2024 for my 1st time with a best friend from high school i havent seen since 1989. Im aware of the risks of traveling with health issues but after many months of proccessing pros n cons I decided to not live in fear. I will come prepared and educated n so excited. I live in Santa Cruz, Ca which is a gorgeous beach town, but looking forward to Thailand and Im overwhelmed at the many options. We have a decent budget to spoil ourselves but at the same time I love saving money as well Looking 4 recommendations, advise, n best places to go n do. At the moment I love the island hopping in the phuket area. I wanna do excursions esp. On the ocean. Also wondering best areas to spoil ourselves n a lil more luxery accommadations. Not looking 4ward to hard beds..lol Love the temples n Im only 3 days into watching videos n researching nessasaey info Oh ya- the ice 4 smoothies? Fresh fruirs? Do ppl get sick often from things not hot n cooked?

We also have a video on Maya Bay, an excursion worth looking into. Thank you for watching our channel and safe travels. 😊
Most soups in Thailand are eaten with rice. The more the soup is sour and spicy, it is necessary that you have to eat it with rice. Otherwise you may get a stomach ache. Because Thai food is designed to be eaten with rice.
That makes a lot of sense! We only wish they had offered rice as a side!😂 It was very tasty just a little too spicy for me. Thank you for watching!! Cheers!🍻

What neighborhood are you guys staying at in Chiang Mai? I heard Nimmen is a great area
We are staying in the Nimmen neighborhood and would recommend it. Our Saturday video will cover much of the neighborhood. Thank you for watching!
Cheers!!🍻
ยินดีต้อนรับสู่ประเทศไทยสยามเมืองยิ้มAnother food stable country in the world May you travel happily and safely in every route.
Thank you so much! We are very much enjoying your country. ❤
I’m so curious… are there no issues with the food sitting out?
We have had no issues at all, KJ. Most of the time the food is prepared as we order. It is hot, fresh, and delicious. Thank you for watching!!
Cheers!!🍻.
Any mosquitoe problems or is it pretty ok …thank u
So far we haven't had much issue. Sometimes in the evening a few come out but we've found some bug repellent for that.
หิว ข้าวซอย หิวHAHAHA
3.00 That's seafood sauce. We Thai eat it with Seafood dishes and Grilled Fish. 😀😃😄
Thai food is our absolute favorite! ❤😀
welcome to thailand are you happy?
We are very much, loving Thailand ❤️
On top of the dumplings is fried garlic.
Cheers!!🍻
@@BrianandCarrie Bonus points for replying so quickly :). Thanks guys. Good Health and safe travels.
Now that you have laid an appropriate food base, it's Singha time. Cheers! 🍻
Absolutely!!! Cheers 🍻
อร่อยมั้ยครับ
สวัสดีครับเพื่อนๆพี่ๆจากไทยแลนด์ครับ

Welcome to thailand 🇹🇭ประเทศไทยยินดีต้อนรับครับ🙏👍👍✌✌
Thank you!! We are loving it here!❤
🙋🤗
Love all of the food options in the market. We have heard a lot of others say it's almost cheaper to eat out than buy groceries. We wonder if that is the case due to the types of food Westerners prefer. What is your experience so far?
Hi! So far we are finding everything we had heard about it being cheaper to eat out than cook to be absolutely true. Grocery prices are quite high here and eating out is easily accessible so it's been the way to go. But, if we wanted to cook in, we found the grocery stores to have anything we would need. Thanks for watching 😊
@@BrianandCarrie 😀That's great to hear!
👏👏👏🍻🍻
Most of Thai soups or curries must have with rice because they cook very strong spices. Don’t try it alone, try eat with rice for good combination
Thanks for the suggestion😊. We haven't seen anyone else eating with rice but that is sure worth a try. Thanks for watching. Cheers 🍻
In generally, Thai dishes have two types :
First, Single plate just like Pad Thai, Khao Soi ( Noodle & Curry Paste with Coconut milk), most of fire rice and any stuff of Noodle with or without Soups.
Good to know!! Thank you for adding this to the channel! We appreciate the support.
ขอให้คุณทั้งคุ่ มีความสุข และ พบแต่สิ่งที่ดี ในประเทศไทยครับ
Thank you so much, we are loving Thailand ❤️
อย่าเพิ่งกลับบ้านนะครับ อยู่เมืองไทยนานๆ เลย🤣
We will be in SE Asia for 5 months, returning to Thailand again next after a stop in Vietnam next month.
Thank you for the advice, Rita.
Cheers!!🍻
Cheers!!
im cant handle spicy and im new diabetic, im screwed if i go 2 Thailand
You can ask for no spice. Everything is prepared as you order. You'll love Thailand!
Cheers 🍻
I am a diabetic as well. I lived in Chiang Mai for nearly a year (in 2019). No problems whatsoever.
First off, learn the phrase Nit Noy (little bit) or Mai Pet (my pet) which means No Spice.
As for diabetes, theres is a ton of fresh veggies, fresh soups without noodles, and meats freshly cooked. Go to Salad Concept in Nimman and order whatever salad you like. If you live for a long time in Chiang Mai, you can hire someone to prepare your food for you (believe it or not!) and clean your home. Super cheap!
Thai people eat soup with rice because rice can decrease the strong flavor especially the soup that sour/salty/spicy.
That is good to know! I wish I had known before I ordered! It was delicious but so spicy! 🤣
Got another little thing for you Brian as said things are spicy, which they can be,
So if you say
My pet..
My> is thai for no
Pet> is thai for spicy
So my pet means no spicy in thai
Also
Nit noy> this means a little bit in thai
So if you want a little spice you would say
Nit noy pet! Which again means a little spicy
Also Chai is yes in thai so if someone wants to do something for you or asks you if you want something, you'd respond with
Chai cup!!
Which is basically , yes thanks
Use Cup if your Brian and Carrie would use ka..or Chai ka.. yes thanks
The man always says cup so hello is sawadee cup..
And the lady always uses ka
So hello is sawadee ka..
Anyway thought I'd toss that out there ,you may already no this but if not there you go...
Brain and I went to the same high school in bham
This will be really helpful!! We will screen shot it and be using it daily!! Thank you!!
BHS alumni?!?! Do we know each other??
🥭🍍🥥🥑🫒 🍹 👍🙂
Thank you for watching, Ana!
Cheers!!🍻
No Beer?!
2 Thirsty is coming...stay tuned! 😉
No two thirsty beer breaks in Asia???
Yes, there were bunch!! 😁🍻
@@BrianandCarrie 👍 Your first 2 videos in Asia I think were the first without reference to. We've been watching in order from the very first, hitting that thumbs up all along the way. 😊 We're on the North Oregon Coast--more rain than your former Bellingham WA base.
We love the Oregon cost! Rain is OK in small doses! 😁 Thank you for watching and supporting the channel!! Those 2 thirsty's are on the way! 😀
สวัสดีครับยินดีต้อนรับท่านทั้งสองครับผมขอให้มีความสุขมากๆนะครับ
One thing that most tourists do that look like having no manners when buying some food and standing there blocking traffic just to continue taking videos for TH-cam no care that they blocking traffic but see some of them buying food and then going finding some places to eat
🇹🇭 love you 💕😊👍🙏
Do you worry about eating fresh fruit, and smoothies? I read that they wash fruit with thier unfiltered water. I am curious if the ice for the smoothies is also unfiltered water.
I will be coming Dec 2024 for my 1st time with a best friend from high school i havent seen since 1989. Im 53 yrs young and have had metastatic breast cancer since 2010. 6 recurrances n im currently doing chemo i.v. every 3 weeks. Stage 4. This dream vacation is my friends gift to me so Im researching n watching videos all day..
Love ur videos so far. We have a decent budget to spoil ourselves but at the same time I love saving money as well
Looking 4 recommendations, advise, n best places to go n do.
At the moment I love the island hopping in the phuket area. I wanna do excursions esp. On the ocean.
Also wondering best areas to spoil ourselves n a lil more luxery accommadations. Not looking 4ward to hard beds..lol
Love the temples n Im only 3 days into watching videos n researching nessasaey info
Oh ya- the ice 4 smoothies? Fresh fruirs? Do ppl get sick often from things not hot n cooked?
Also- we only have about 19 days inc travel from cali
We have never had any foodborne illness issues (knock on wood!). We have a lot of videos on Thailand and links to Expedia that will assist you with any accommodations you may be looking for.
Cheers!🍻
