Sir, Very well covered. Major challenge of Agniveers is reduced authorisation of leave i.e. Only 30 days and also no medical as well as CSD facilities to their dependents. It affects their motivation & making it at par with regular soldier will not cost much to the exchequer. Please highlight this issue.

A very interesting talk on the subject matter. The following thoughts came to mind:
For the Agniveers who qualify for long service at the rate of 50% retention there is a military career; and on the flipside, it is a disciplined youth who would be available for civil re-employment.
In addition to the para-military, re-employment even as a VDG in the village defence committees is a reasonable alternative; and all other civil administration functions (BLO, Tehsil, SDM and their related qualifying exams) in between. Of course, the VDC would require a relook and revamp.

There is a scheme of RBI which has asked banks to extend loans to AGNIVEERS, which was issued two years ago. The problem is that when they become due for the loan two years down the line, the letter would have been forgotten. RBI needs to remind the banks at the appropriate time and set targets or get feedback from the banks about loans given to AGNIVEERS. Banks will be interested because these guys will have a base amount of 12 Lacs in their hand

Isreal has an 8200 industry & startup sector of ex-forces. Agniveer could be the training for an Indian version of 8200, creating a pipeline.

Hope your optimism about corporates opening their doors for Agniveer is far fetched. In the end they will end up as security guards. Unless the govt especially the bureaucracy are serious their resettlement will not work, remember the lateral entry, which is still pending? Absolutely agree of opening a department for resettlement of Agniveer under esm resettlement department. It has to be a govt responsibility rather than a defence forces responsibility.

1. There is no doubt that Agniveer scheme was very well conceived one. The parameters like 4 year period or retention percentage ( from a low level of 25% to say even 90%), is something that can always be adjusted depending on the requirements of Army and as Army gathers experience with the Scheme. So if there is a move to increase retention percentage now, this should be seen as Army's well considered decision. 2. Having said all this, it must be said that one is amused watching Gen Kulkarni overflowing with emotions as he talks about resettlement aspect of Agniveer scheme!!!!

Is the agniveer intake 4x what the intake used to be (ie 25%, same number, stay on, whilst 75% leave) or is there a smaller total intake?

Sir ,Will we allow Doctor with 5 years to do operation , look for old Drivers to drive a school bus, Specialist vehicles to be driven, pilot to fly with 4 years experience . Why not have exam like IAS for Top ranks at 4 years of service

During the whole discussion the needle of the anchor was stuck at 5th Pay commission. The bureaucracy who are at the head of this commission need to have more participation from our DEFENCE . 7th Pay commission has been implemented in Jan 2024 and still people talk about 5th.
Then you do not know what is at stake….it is not the pay…it is the issue of non implementation by government…..
Namaste and yes I agree that there are issues with Pay commission's due to the BUREAUCRACY heading it and downgrading of equivalency but I would humbly request that office of CDS be used to address it or have a panel of BUREAUCRACY and DEFENCE representative to explain to the CIVILIANS as to the thought processes behind BUREAUCRACY's outlook and DEFENCE outlook.
