I grew up watching and loving Soupy Sales, Pookie, Hippie, White Fang and Black Tooth. Some of my very greatest memories of childhood. I'm now 73. I miss Soupy!
I dated Soupy. He was very good to me. He was wonderful fun and he taught me a lot. I have never laughed so hard in my life, RIP my dear friend. Here's a shout out to his good friend Paul Devere. Those were the best of times.
Soupy, White Fang and Black Tooth, Pookie and Hippy, Philo Kvetch and The Mask and Onions Oregano. The Words of Wisdom, The Soupy Shuffle, The Mouse....and the off-camera crew...and the barbs he would ad-lib toward them. Not to mention the knocks at the door with only the hands and the voice of the visitor... Pachalafakah!
Thank you. Really hit the spot tonight...a trip back my childhood and the Great Soupy Sales. Great to see his son so devoted to him. He must have been a terrific father...just like I thought he would be. Again thank you for making my night.
Two very funny guys. Soupy could throw a pie with great accuracy and his show made people laugh. Good fun shows like that are long gone. Gone are the days of the Little Rascals, Three Stooges, Soupy Sales, and GOOD Saturday morning cartoons.
I had the awesome pleasure of working with Soupy during his hayday. It was so funny to be in the studio when he did his show. I was about 10 feet from this awesome, warm, generous man. Channel-5 had some of the best children's show talent. I was glad to know them all. RIP Mr. Soupman
My husband and I adore Soupy Sales, grew up watching him in junior high before we'd met, ran home from work in 1979 to watch reruns our first year dating, and are now delighted in retirement to reach both the B&W and color shows. He remains one of my comic heros (my older brother turning me on to the shoe). In my heart and mind he is forever young, seeing him and Pookie brightens my day. RIP, we still love you!♡
That guy with him is Tony Sales, Soupy's son. He was the bass guitarist for Tin Machine with David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Todd Rundgren and so many others. A really talented guy.
Soupy Sales was a comic genius. I cherish the reruns of his show still funny and relevant today. He was the master of the deadpan. He could make you laugh just by his comic reaction to a situation (similar to Jack Benny).... A true genius legend a master of comedy. Wish he was still here...miss him. God bless Soupy Sales!
R I P Soupy. He gave me a lot of wholesome laughs as a young boy then, and also as a Senior Aged Man which I need now too. I am still watching his treasured show reruns in my older age now, that brings back so many good and happy childhood memories for me. I especially enjoyed the funny skits with White Fang and Black Tooth. I recently met an older woman who knew Soupy Sales name, but she never watched his TV shows during her childhood. When I told her more about Soupy’s great entertainment and Googled his shows to show her his videos, she was laughing hysterically when she saw his funny skits with White Fang and Black Tooth. She and I started mimicking and talking funny like White Fang and Black Tooth, blehhh, blehhh, blehh, and weh, weh, weh with kisses 😘😘😘after that scenario. As a young boy, I thought I was related to Soupy, because I had an uncle who looked just like him. Thank God that Soupy’s TV Shows and interviews have been preserved for us to continue his timeless classic funny unique style jokes and entertainment, even today!
I lived in Garden City then. I remember seeing Soupy coming out of some dive bar on Venoy Road and getting into this big purple Cadillac with a huge dent on the door. I was in awe. To this day I wish I'd said something to him.
We lived in Ypsilanti (west of Detroit), and would hurry home from school to watch Soupy while having lunch. What fond memories. Yes, late 1953, early 1954.
Not sure who published this, but thank you. I loved Soupy and of course I loved my dad. I was happy to see this moment of him and Soupy hanging out. Then you add Ed Asner one of the best! This is beautiful! Thank you Sandy Hackett
@Tennessee Steinmetz, "God's Little Acre"! Proved your dad was an incredible straight actor. Why he didn't go forth into movies like this, I never understood. Wonderful performance! So memorable.
Sandy - who didnt love your dad!? i live in NYC and bumped into him one day on 33rd and 2nd Ave. He looked great and was so gracious and pleasant. I thanked him for everything and all the laughs. What a great memory. Pretty damn cool. Peace, Ben
I remember watching Soupy Sales on TV when I was a kid back in the Early1960,s, So can Anyone imagine how Supprised I was, when I Started working as a Doorman at 240 E. 35st. On my first Night shift, On a Saturday Night, back in 1983, And seen Soupy, getting out of a Very Big Limousine(It was WHITE) ? I didn't know it Then, but later on that week, the Handyman/ Larry, from the building I worked in, Told me, Soupy Actually lived across the street at 245 E. 35st. Everybody that lived or worked in that area pretty much knew him, Exept me, But, that was Ok with me, I mean,I would have liked to have a friendship with "The Soup Man", but being Very new on the job, I guess, back then, Nobody Ever Noticed me. ANYWAY, As they said, In my job, "That's Doorman Bissness" lol Rest in Peace, Irv,/Soupy 😊😊😊👍
Tennessee Steinmetz Sandy your dad and Soupy made people laugh which is one of the greatest gifts in life .Your Dad made my father laugh so much he had tears when your dad did his Chinese waiter routine. Thanks!
Soupy was the greatest. I worked at WPIX Ch 11 at the same time Soupy was at WNEW. We had Chuck McCann doing his kids show. There was a friendly rivalry between the two. When Chuck found out that Soupy had started a soft ball team with his crew at Ch 5 then Chuck got us together and started his own team. We would play against Soupy at times on Sunday mornings in Central Park...To bad some of those games were not taped. They were a hoot and a lot of laughs...
After getting home from school, Soupy's Show came on, and He made Childhood a Joy, and when the show was over, on to homework! Soupy Sales and Sandy Becker!! Sorry, NYPD!! Those 2 were New York's Finest! Officer Joe Bolton and You Guys are Okay TOO!!😁
I have cherished a record from Soupy's children's show. I could still sing "My Leona" and "Vy you spyink on me." My parents liked him belittling the cold war and I loved talking like Black Tooth and White Fang. When I later read Jack London, I had to try to get Soupy's version of White Fang to recede for the sanctity of this new vision of White Fang! As a kid I only had that record followed by a Mary Poppins record, way up until 1977. The values of my childhood...
Soupy was so much fun to watch on TV. I saw him in person when he came to Long Island in 1966 and did a show at a local school. It was when his "Do the Mouse" song was so popular.
THANK YOU BIG TIME FOR THIS VIDEO.GREW UP WITH SOUPY AND THE GANG IN HUNTINGTON BEACH CALIFORNIA. White Fang wanted to marry.. Soupy told him marriage was a 3 ring circus.. the engagement ring, the wedding ring and the suffer ring... I laughed til I cried..
Kind of sad to see Soupy in this poor condition...In his prime hosting kids tv shows from NYC, he was the epitome of energy physically, and mentally was as sharp as they came
ICE House, Pasadena, CA about 1985. Soupy tells a divorce joke. All the women are laughing, along with a few men. He tells another. Same thing. Then he unloads: A man takes her daughter to the barber for her first haircut. Long hair. She is gobbling down a big cookie. After a while, the barber says "look little girl, you're getting hair on your cookie." The little girl looks up and says "that's nothing, you should see my boobies." I fell off my chair and onto the floor laughing. Not one woman in the room was laughing.
Soupy has/had a handsome son there. I keep seeing a strong resemblance to Mel GIbson, naturally from more of the earlier Soupy. But Mel has this crazy energy that's very similar to Soupy. Mel could easily play him. (forget all the jewish stuff you're thinking about). Hey, there ya go...Mel finds out he's Jewish. On the Soupy Sales show. White fang conducting the orchestra.
Why did I think I was the only one to see that resemblance?! Yes that would make a cool pic w Mel, who, btw, I believe was set up by the pedos in Hollyweird to make him look bad bc he outed them. I don't believe he said that stuff for one minute.

Would love to hear more about him. Bet he was fun to be with. You must have some great memories. 👍
