Judy had a tremendous sense of humor. Probably one of the greatest of all time. She loved to laugh, and make others laugh too. Quick story I read, Judy, Lorna and Joe were in London. She and the kids got back to their Hotel late one evening, and Joe noticed all the hotel rooms had shoes outside of their doors. Joe, asked his mom why were they there. She explained that they were to be picked up, cleaned and returned. Then JUDY had an idea. She said to the kids, what a mess it would be if the shoes got switched. SO THEY SWITCHED THE SHOES FROM SEVERAL DIFFERENT FLOORS, GIGGLING EVERY MINUTE. THAT HAD TO CAUSE A RATHER LARGE PROBLEM THE NEXT MORNING. That was the silly side of JUDY.
Great! Thank you for sharing this, very funny. Can you imagine the audience all excited thinking Judy was coming out, then Earnest appeared. But then when she did appear how fab! I think she had a bad throat for the Samny show so just as well she didn't sing. Mind you, even when she is not in good voice I think she is better than anybody else. I bet she loved coming on not having to sing and taking the applause, love her.
This is the preserved proof - even though it never got on TV - that we are truly living in a different time. I read some of the posts and found out the reason Soupy and Ernest decided to do the routine probably right on the spur of the moment. This kind of entertainment - sentimental to be sure, and filled with kidding around and star worshipping at the same time, would never go over in 2024. The variety show as we knew it back then is all but dead. Thank God we have people who post these shows! "A vast wasteland," yes, but Newton Minow is no doubt turning over in his grave.
Even when she is not there...Judy is Great! :) Soupy and Ernie...what a couple of characters! It's clear that they both shared Judy's wonderful sense of humor and had a good time doing this bit. ^^X^^
Yes, the story behind this brief appearance was that Judy was across the hall in another studio recording an episode of "THE SAMMY DAVIS JR SHOW", whereupon she flitted over to the adjoining studio to make this cameo. She can be seen (elsewhere on TH-cam) in a black & white Kinescope doing the "Sammy" show wearing the same clothing as this. It's such a shame that the "Sammy" show doesn't still exist in such glorious color splendor instead of this brief 30 second spot. (Still, it is good).
Ernie Borgnine was just absolutely adorable! It seems like a strange thing to say, because he had a huge career, won an Oscar, everything, but wouldn't he have been marvelous in Guys and Dolls --his dancing is right on, and the singing not bad at all.
Dear Batman4Oz: Wasn't she, though? Not there, at first, in person, but in heart and spirit! Now we know what her friend Ann Miller meant when she said, "Judy had a magnetic 'force-field' around her, as psychics call it, that could reach THE BACK OF THAT HOUSE [theatre] where she was performing..." How true your post is! And Soupy and Ernie---they don't make 'em like those two, anymore, either...!
Wow, I didn't even know this existed. Thanks for posting!! I wish someone had whacked those two bozos and just let Judy sing. Very nice to see her at the end, though.
Judy Garland was one of the most impersonated persons in history and the person here (probably Jim Bailey or it might even be Charles Pierce) is NOT Judy Garland.
@@frankiebowie6174 You'll never convince me that is Judy Garland. I have seen her too many times. She would have never just breezed on and off the way that person did for that particular show and dressed to the 9's! It was a gag as there were so many people who impersonated Judy Garland. See if you can't find that show and find out who the cast was on for that particular evening. I will bet you anything it does not list the REAL Judy Garland.
** Spoiler Alert** No Judy. Well, a couple of seconds at the end. But the entirety of the video is the host and googly eyed Ernest Borgnine. What a disappointment to expect to see Judy and just end up with those two goofs.

What year was this?or air date.
1966. It was never aired.
Judy Garland was one of the most impersonated persons in history and the person here (probably Jim Bailey or it might even be Charles Pierce) is NOT Judy Garland.
Richard McLeod
STOP IT!
That’s Judy Garland. It’s a gag. She had a cold and couldn’t sing.

I do believe that is Judy. And yes she would do something like that, with her famous sense of humor.
Charles Pierce or Charles Busche They're probably too young to play Judy Judy Judy
Her plane wasn't late, she was three sheets to the wind.
they had to stall she was late
But it was a written in the script stall. Judy was across the hall doing The Sammy Davis Jr. Show.
That's not Judy Garland, it is the female impersonator Jim Bailey.
That's what I thought.
How do you know that? I don't think you are right.
That was definitely Judy.
Here’s Judy in the same outfit, in the same studio, on the same day, starting around 2:40. th-cam.com/video/SwSbsPrgSLI/w-d-xo.html
