Before I started reading Mad Magazine, there was Soupy Sales. Soupy will always give me fond memories of my early childhood. He was the center of laughter. RIP Soupy.
Yeah, Soupy rocked my pre-teen world! He was just so cool, not like the other "Stepford" shows for kids. And he exuded a such a real happiness. Even revisiting these great clips as a senior, his beautiful expressions still make me happy, and the humor makes my day brighter. My childhood friend and I will ocassionally lapse into talking like WF & BT in public. And, of course, we understand each other. Cheers to all my fellow Soup-ophiles!
I used to walk home from school for lunch. So I could watch Soupy. He was the best. I always remember the Soupy shuffle he used to do. Willy the worm. Pooky the lion. Black tooth the nice dog. I could go on and on. Good old Detroit Soupy.
The beloved SS! I spent my childhood kneeling on the carpet and rolling around on the carpet with laughter as a little girl. He was pure happiness. I wish comedians today could be as spontaneous and warmly, absurdly funny. Bless you Mr. Sales. You and White Fang and the gang are having a ball up there!
As a little kid I would watch SS with his afternoon lunch show . Then as I got older I would rush home to watch his late afternoon show . Soup and pookie were the coolest show on. I will never forget the banana cream and mail the money shows .
You get the feeling that these guys were making a lot of this up as they were going along (not easy, by any means) and that's probably what contributed to the hilarity. They had a " Point A " and a " Point B " but the road between? A REAL TRIPPY EXPERIENCE...but always with a pie or two at the end. CLASSIC COMEDY AT ITS BEST.
My neighborhood friend was one of the kids that mailed those green pieces of paper to Soupy at WNEW TV. He never really got in trouble, but Soupy was off the air for a period of time
An icon of my sordid, twisted childhood. His insanity was the only sane thing about my life at the time. Bless his soul, wherever he is today. He'll forever live inside my heart.
Just watched two episodes of the old classic western “The Rebel” which starred Nick Adams. Soupy was featured in both, though, you would barely recognize him. He played a grizzled livery stable proprietor in one and a baddie in the other. When the credits came up after each episode was over was when I saw that Sales had appeared in those roles. He did these roles while he was hosting the “Soupy Sales Show”. So, apparently, Soupy did a little dramatic acting on the side. Interesting.
Does ANYBODY remember the lyrics to the Green Stamp song, Soupy was saying "fill up your green stamp book" and it went to the tune of the Camptown Ladies. I think he was doing this song in the late 1960s, talking to two of his puppets.
The sound is attenuated but this sounds like Clyde Adler doing White Fang. I thought in Detroit, White Fang had brown fur. Lunch With Soupy. They should've left it that. Hilarious. Grown up level humor mixed in, so, yes, my mom used to watch this with me.
Best joke (that I remember, anyway); if skirts get any shorter, women will have more lips to paint and more cheeks to powder. Yes, he really said that on TV!🤣

Crystal: I'm 63 & I'm laughing. Grew up on him in Detroit.
Crystal, if you liked Soupy, maybe you digged The Ernie Kovacs Show, too. I loved 'em both as a kid.

No wonder my sense of humor is so good, growing up with Soupy! Thank you!!!
I grew up on Lunch With Soupy Sales literally w/bowl of tomato soup & grilled cheese 😁
Same here when I grew up in Detroit in the late 50s and 60s.

CLASSIC COMEDY AT ITS BEST.
One of his funniest words of wisdom, “if you can’t make both ends meet, make one vegetable.” 🙏❤️😊
I always liked "Be true to your teeth and they won't be false to you". Maybe followed by a pie in the face.
Clyde Alder did the best White Fang. In this video, Frank Nastase did Fangs voice.
Wish I can go back to those days. Would love to be Soupy and his crew's neighbor. Would never be a dull moment. RIP Soupy you are dearly missed.
Couldn’t understand White Fang’s singing but didn’t stop me from laughing my head off. Sunshine comedy in a cloudy world. Thank you.

Yes he was suspended for a while, after that his shows were tapped. I was one of the recording engineers

Rest in powerful peace Milton "Soupy" Sales🙏

Beyond greatness.
That’s the greatness I remember.
He was the best. Even the crew couldn't contain themselves. Kids absolutely loved him. I was one. No special effects, etc. Just silliness.
You are so right the black and white ones made me laugh 😂 so much.
The B and Ws were so much better than the later Color episodes...
I loved Soupy Sales ❤️❤️so immature but funny ❤️😊
Hysterical and brilliant and my parents loved him too.

Never realized until now, but White Fang sounds like a US Marine!

White Fang: white fur.
Black Tooth: brown fur.
@@howardkerr8174 On "Lunch With Soupy" (Detroit, c.1957) White fangs fur was dark brown and the claws were black. Neither had white fur that I recall.
This was actually the great Frank Nastasi
This is great. Thanks
Ooh rah!!!
A few of these knock-knock jokes seem original.(Chuckle!)
Best joke (that I remember, anyway); if skirts get any shorter, women will have more lips to paint and more cheeks to powder. Yes, he really said that on TV!🤣
Remember we used to watch this
There was a certain episode of soupy messing around with a TV set, i would like to know what episode it was.
😂 Don't kiss 😂😂
Soupy was Pee Wee before he was Herman. I was shocked when he was suddenly off the air. Now I know.
I was waiting for the pie
Hot soup!!!
I'm dying 🤣
The crew was as much a part of the show...
be true to your teeth or there be false to you
He kinda looks like Mel Gipson.
yes! In a train wreck sort of way.
Is it me or does Soupy Sales kind of favor Gerard Butler King Leonidas
