Frank Nastasi was a real asset to the show. He brought life to Pookie. The look of horror on Pookie's face was hysterical. At age 67, I'm not embarrassed to still laugh out loud at this. In fact, I probably find it funnier now than when I was a kid. What a grungy looking puppet, I think the original Pookie was found in a trash can. The late 70's version with the newer puppet is just as hilarious.
Timeless humor and laughter...Comic relief..When ever I need a chuckel this is the place I go. The constant set up and delivery ' is classic. Thank you..
The loose, hip atmosphere, including the sounds of the set crew breaking up, was something no show had, save for one. I have a feeling that Steve Allen was an influence on the comedic genius that was Soupy Sales; how could they not have known each other with the similar wild, spontaneous humor they generated?
When I was in grade school, Soupy was my favorite. He also had a late nite show. Soupy did his show from the Maccabees Bldg which is across the street from the Detroit Public Library and Wayne State Univ. Sometimes he did his show on the sidewalk and would talk to people walking past. For a time, Soupy was pretty close with Frank Sinatra. I remember one show where Frank took a pie in the face. There was one show where the walls on the studio set were being pushed in. I found out later that several of the kids in my class were invited on set and they did that. One evening, my parents and I watched a show that Soupy did in the Grosse Pointe High Gym for free. Soupy was a naturally funny guy in a nice way.
I LOVED Soupy and all his buddies..White Fang, Black Tooth and Pookie. I get such a kick out of hearing his technical crew laughing it up in the background, lol. It was like a big party, every single show..such great memories! RIP, Soupy; you bring me smiles and laughter, even now in 2021. Thanks..love you! 🤗❤️❤️❤️
Always loved Soupy; I was a kid in 1958, watching him on telly in Detroit. Saw him years later in Savannah -- he still looked the same, and was hilarious.
Still laughing at pookie. Me too I lived in Detroit same year you up on Soupy Sales. I nickname my son was 30 years old now Pookie when he was little. I still call him that. He laughs all the time he's seeing some of the videos. Is it true story I went to a wrestling event and one of the big Arenas and Detroit. Can't remember which one. Before the event took hold. Soupy Sales steps into the middle of the Ring. And sis okay we're going to have a Soupy Sales Shuffle contest. So bunch of kids including myself got in the ring and did the Soupy Sales Shuffle. I won. It was a cheap little plastic trophy. But I was so excited. LOL God I wish I had that trophy still. That was my favorite show. And there was a black tooth and White Fang. Great memories huh?
Soupy had a group of fans at his live show at WNEW everyday. We sat quietly on folding chairs and watched in amazement. His crew was his laugh track. Everyone friendly and funny!! We had such good times back then. Soupy always spent time outside the studio with us and took pictures and talked and signed autographs. He was amazing!!😍🥰
Soupy was the best. Funny, silly, in-the-moment and inspired. Watched him in NYC in mid-60's. ( Also, Chuck McCann, Sandy Becker and Sonny Fox.) A few years later, I discovered the amazing nightly radio shows of raconteur/author Jean Shepherd on WOR am and my worldview was once again changed forever. Thank you gentlemen for your far-ranging warmth, humor, and philosophical influence.
Looking back, I see beyond his minor controversies (which also befell trailblazers like Lenny Bruce & later, Richard Pryor) to filter out the comedic gem that was Soupy Sales. Genius. Pure genius!
watched his show in the evenings with my father and sister back in the late 50's.Mom thought it was foolish but we laughed our asses off for the half hour he was on.We laughed so hard we usually had tears.
How many comedians touched as many people with absolutely harmless fun? My brothers and I fought for the best seat in front of the TV for his show. Thanks, Soup!!
Sometimes age works in our favor. At age 67, I laugh more now at Soupy Sales and The Three Stooges than I did as a kid. As a youngster, a lot of the jokes and the presentation were not fully appreciated by me especially with the Stooges. So now, I find myself questioning my maturity. This stuff is hilarious.

Unbelievable. Soupy we will miss you forever. I feel sorry for the kids who didn't get a chance to grow up with your show. Simply the best. No contest. Many hugs to surviving family members. You have so much to be proud for. He was the star of our neighborhood in Mahwah NJ in the 50's and 60's. A list & will always be. When you're classified the best by your peers, there is no greater honor. God bless.
I was able to talk with Soupy on the phone 20+ years ago while he was co-hosting on a local radio station in Toledo. I told him a few jokes and he asked me if I wanted to go on the air with him. I declined his offer because I am a big chicken but the point is that Soupy is a very generous man willing to share the stage, as it were, with others. This is evident on his tv shows. He always let his co-stars and staff get a laugh, often at his expense and he obviously loved it that way.
Ira I spend hours on You Tube watching Soupy Sales as if I was 8 running home from School to watch him.I'm now 61 but what memories,Thank you Thank you Bill Petillo

i loved the soupy sales show. i wish there were more videos left. i will always credit soupy for molding my sense of humor. i love you soupy and the gang.
As a child of the 50's and 60's, I joined the United States Marine Corps in 1971 at 17, I realized that Soupy was different than anyone else on T.V. at that time. Acid hadn't affected Hollyweird, (on the screen yet) but through life after listening to Flo n Eddy I now know Soupy was stoned. He had the best dope.
I watched Soupy in early 60s after school faithfully! Loved the show. One particular show Soupy grabbed Pookies hair and at the same time the puppet jerked quickly down ward. He accidentally yanked his hair off in his hand. Pookie popped up bald and Soupy and everyone else was laughing so hard. Loved it.
Pookie was jammin' to "Mumbles" (Oscar Peterson and Clark Terry). Pookie's take on "Boom-Boom" (the version by Eric Burdon and The Animals) knocked me out! Soupy and crew knew what clicked!
How I remember Rootie Kazootie I was 4 years old and watched this show before family came over from Brooklyn for ThanksGiving.1950s early T.V.was mostly Black and white and plenty of puppets

I would love to see more of Soupy's black and white New York shows from the 60s. They were just amazing. He had no budget and would just make everything up himself, except for Frank playing the characters.
It's sad channel 7 Detroit kept so few episodes of Soupy when he started out there. Those were treasures they let slip away. I watched him everyday in the 1950s and early 1960s. Every kid in The Detroit area did. I'm 71 now.
I'm 56 I loved Soupy, Pookie, White Fang & Peaches with the rings...Like Christopher Walkens "The Continental on SNL"!!! I would watch every day...The "Hair Pin" joke got Soupy in trouble & "Green Pieces of Paper"!
We had a summer home at Portage Lake and lived in Belleville! I grew up with Soupy too. I love him more now than I did then. RIP, you gave me my sense of absurdity.
was driving through brooklyn early seventies ..late evening.. on the right with a gorgeous blonde on his arm was Soupy! Had time to yell Hi ya Boobie! and he laughed and waved great moment!
I was one of the lucky kids who came home for lunch and watched Soupy at noon. I had a Pookie Lion and loved every minute of Soupy, Pookie, White Fang and Black Tooth.
Lunch With Soupy Sales. Jello was one of the sponsors. My Mom always had my lunch and Jello ready for the show.Soupy would always shake his bowl of jello to a wobbly sound effect and I would shake my bowl of Jello right along with him. No wonder I am the way I am now.One of my top 5 favorite shows of all time.
Growing up on Soupy and Bugs Bunny... kids today don't even know what they missed. Soupy, you will always be missed but will live forever in glorious black and white.
My half brother was a big fan of soupy sales. He love watching his show when he was a kid he use to do the voice of I think it was black thing like me being from the suburbs between Detroit and Ann Arbor Mr sales is from Detroit he started there soupy you rock rip
Pookie was the best. I remember one commercial they did. One of the sponsers was Sivercup bread. Pook was going to get some for Soups lunch. They showed a bunch of old clips of car, train & plane crashes then a boat wreck. When he came back to the window he & the bread were soaked. He started throwing all the wet bread at Soupy and as a 6-7 year old I almost peed laughing so hard. This was from his days in Detroit before there was any tapes Everything was done live.
Frank Nastasi was a real asset to the show. He brought life to Pookie. The look of horror on Pookie's face was hysterical. At age 67, I'm not embarrassed to still laugh out loud at this. I loved Soupy Sales as a child and it's amazing that this it totally entertaining to me as an adult all those many years later.
I'm 64 and my husband and I still love him and laugh like kids!
I used to watch Soupy all the time as a kid and enjoyed it. Watching now in my 60's I appreciate a level of humor I never saw as a child.

A severely limited budget and creative freedom made great TV, appreciated by adults as well!!! The crew were having lots of fun! Pookie one cool lion!
I love how the crew laughs with Soupy off-stage. Funny stuff.
Soupy had a group of fans at his live show at WNEW everyday. We sat quietly on folding chairs and watched in amazement. His crew was his laugh track.

Soupy always spent time outside the studio with us and took pictures and talked and signed autographs. He was amazing!!😍🥰

Teenage fun with Soupy Sales! Boy those were the days!
was driving through brooklyn early seventies ..late evening.. on the right with a gorgeous blonde on his arm was Soupy! Had time to yell Hi ya Boobie! and he laughed and waved great moment!
I had forgotten that Animals song. This was great. The way the crew laughs in these sketches adds to the hilarity.
You'll never see anything this good on the teletubbies or barney or anything by disney...
gonna miss ya Soupy.
Loved to watch as a kid. It's still great!
Nicknamed my Wife........"Pookie".....Love Soupy...........
I was one of the lucky kids who came home for lunch and watched Soupy at noon. I had a Pookie Lion and loved every minute of Soupy, Pookie, White Fang and Black Tooth.
It was the best kid's show at lunchtime. Listen to the music Soupy has everybody listen to.
"Thanks for the memories" Soupy!
May a better world become of them.
A big fan as a kid and adult! White fang cracks me up with Soupy!
I loved mumbles....when we final got one ...lunch time TV with my mom &.. soupy....a true funny dude. Heloise and silver cup...detroit TV 1960 ish

AND,
"I'LL NEVER GROW UP"!!!
