Such a great memory of coming home from elementary school every day to watch Soupy Sales in the afternoon. Absolutely loved White Fang and Black Tooth. Soupy was a comedic genius, and sadly was quite underrated by TV critics of this day.
I discovered Soupy in the early 60's and to this day, he still brings a smile to my face. I loved 'Pookie" (pet name for my wife), WF and BT were typical of rebellious youth in the 60's and so was Soupy. Thanks for the memories...
In the 50's, we used to watch Soupy when he was still in Detroit. In addition to the kids show at noon, he also had a live late night show which featured a lot of great music ; the humor was definitely more adult but still wacky & off the wall. Our parents usually didn't let us watch it but we could hear them laughing.
What a blast! I forgot how much fun it was to come home from school and enjoy watching Soupy and all his sublime silliness. I feel bad that kids today don't have anyone like Soupy to keep them company. RIP to an old friend (and thanks for the autograph!)
LEGEND!!! He was one of the best. A truly nice man as well. Met him after a performance at a comedy club several years ago and he was genuine in his love of his fans. Thanks for all laughs and great memories. Heaven is smiling!!
Wow. A lot of Soupy's adult humor went way over my head back then. It's great to see this stuff again now - it makes me appreciate just how well he was able to appeal to kids and adults at the same time.
Sure glad we still have some of these great clips and complete shows in the archives. They don't make 'em like Soupy anymore. Rest in Peace. I'm gonna miss ya, but have great memories of "Lunch with Soupy".
Grew up with him first with "Lunch with Soupy" and then on the insane "Soupy Sales Show" on WNEW Ch 5 in NYC. These clips on TH-cam are only a tiny snippet of his genius and most all of it is better than anything on TV today. RIP
I also grew up with Soupy first on"Lunch With Soupy Sales"and then..the Friday night "Soupy Sales Show"on The ABC TV Network..and his WNEW TV Ch.5 NYC tv series.
The episode with Fess Parker just aired today on Comcast Channel 288 (JLTV). What a coincidence! Loved the sound of the pie hitting one's face! Rest in peace Soupy, you made the world a better place!
Believe it or not, I actually SAW the infamous "little green pieces of paper" bit he did on WNEW-TV back on Jan. 1, 1965! I didn't send him any money because I didn't know what "Puerto Rico" was. Rest in piece, Soupy!
Rest in peace Soupy. I am truly sad today but you gave us so much joy when we were kids. What a wonderful show. We used to have his album, "Spy with a Pie" somewhere in the house, can't find it now :( I saw the "green pieces of paper" show too, thought it was really funny. Bless you Soup.
YES! I remember that song. I was searching for it earlier today. Anybody? PLEASE! I'm in that privileged group of Boomers who got to watch the show when it was brand new. Soupy, we LOVE YOU!
Hia Pok!, Hia Bubbie! No one can ever replace you soupy! No one will ever forget you! You are the shining star in the sky tonight! Will always love you!!
i remember one show where pookie got a pie and i laughed till i got a headache always love soupy and even saw him once as i ddrove through brooklyn yelled out hey boobie and he laughed and waved
1 of the best show of my era [the 60s] was a kid of 8 years old..when he[soupy] wason to hear he died at 83 man!!!! thats a lot of years now tears...R.I.P. THE KING OF SILLY . WE WILL MISS U . A FAN OF THE SHOW
Here in Australia,I'd only known about Soupy Sales by seeing his 1966 movie 'Birds Do It'. I then saw him on a 80's Dick Clark/Ed MacMahon TV special regarding a practical joke played on him during a taping of his show. Thanks for letting people elsewhere in the world aware of Soupy and his rather anarchic 60s kids show!
Haaaaaaa.....LoL--- Pookie's Funny retort to Soupie...."...yeah, But she couldn't come Today..."is still Damn Funny---50 years, down the road.....Love Pookie...
Soupy Sales later recorded an album and released a single on Motown, called "Muck-arty Park" (a parody of Macarthur Park) in 1969 - I have that single on CD, and it sounds fascinating - RIP Soupy, you will be missed-
i was born in the 70's so i didnt have the privilage of watching soupy sales. i grew up with the Wallace and Ladmo Show here in Arizona. But as my uncles and father have told me soupy sales was a true genius and for all ages. pure entertianment. HEY CAN SOME ONE confirm for me if they have soupy sales on DVD? if so i want it get it for my dad make a great birthday present thank you blessed be RIP SOUPY SALES other generations can enjoy watching you as i have done.

This is New York Soupy. Detroit Soupy from our childhood had the really big bow tie and broken top hat. This man had a lot of input into my sense of humor and the person I would become!
I remember Soupy came on around 5 or 6pm in the NYC viewing area. Pookie was always the show-stopper. Pookie used to do "mumbles" by Clark Terry. My mom always got a big kick out of that.
In Detroit it was Lunch With Soupy (even better). Pookie was smaller and I think only whistled. White Fangs arm was dark brown and Clyde Adler's voicing was lower pitched, and more gravely. "Do Not Touch" was the very first thing I learned to read.
THAT IS EARLY STEVE WONDER, you can tell by that little high note harp thing he does occasionally, together with his "ha-ha, ye-ah", which is a signature Steve sound.
+stuffs & things & things & stuff Little Stevie Wonder recorded this Tommy Tucker/Robert Higgenbotham (actually it is Higginbotham) composition for Tamla Motown in 1965. Due to his prolific songwriting talent and track record I guess many people assume today that most everything Stevie sang was the product of his own hand but that was not always the case.
A lot more ironic than people might think... at one point, Soupy was signed to Motown as a recording artist, and one of the musicians in the Motown "Funk Brothers" rhythm section (Joe Messina) worked on Soupy's ABC show!
Pafalafaka, Pafalafaka, they whisper it all over Turkey. Pafalafaka, Pafalafaka, it sounds so romantic and jerky. Oh I know that phrase will make me thrill always, because it reminds me of you my sweet. Just the mention of that tender word of love, gives my heart a jerkish, Turkish beat. Is this not the flip side of the Mouse?
High Heel Sneakers was first performed Tommy Tucker. Not Tony. Steveland Morris's version (Stevie Wonder's real name), used here, was mostly a Detroit area release.
Soupy: so do you have a little number for us today Pookie: yeah but she could'nt make it! Can you imagine trying to get away with that today? LOL Soupy, RIP
I was a huge Soupy fan back in the day. When the network was going to cancel him, I sent them a letter and they answered me back explaining the cancellation. I still have the letter. Nobody does kid's TV the way Soupy did. Okay, Seseme Street is a close second.
A lip-synching lion puppet and a manic host. Didn't take much to entertain us kids in the old days...this looks so innocent and sweet now, even with the double entendres. Still makes me laugh.

His brand of innocent slapstick humor is something we"ll probably never see again. I"m glad I was a kid at that time and got to enjoy it all.
We are enjoying today, thanks to these videos!❤❤❤❤❤
One of the greatest shows ever and always great music.
What a wonderful memory of my childhood. Soupy and Pookie were the best!
The best part of all this is that they were having as much fun doing this show as we had watching it!
i guess I'm kinda randomly asking but does anyone know of a good website to stream newly released tv shows online?
@Lucian Kannon Lately I have been using Flixzone. Just google for it :)

I am so glad I grew up in this era..
Long live Soupy!!
The best. Soupy deserved so many awards and accolades.
I hope that Soupy will eventually be inducted into"The TV Hall Of Fame"..God knows he deserves to be in there.
@@kevins.butler3402, I completely agree. He deserved the recognition when he was with us, but his contributions are immortal.

It's amazing! Pookie sounds just like Stevie Wonder! Soupy and Pookie were the greatest!
As a 4-year-old fan long ago, this makes me happy again.
What a blast! I forgot how much fun it was to come home from school and enjoy watching Soupy and all his sublime silliness. I feel bad that kids today don't have anyone like Soupy to keep them company. RIP to an old friend (and thanks for the autograph!)

I have such fond memories of watching Soupy's show in Detroit as a kid. Loved Pookie, White Fang, and Black Tooth; I still do the arm and voice thing.
Pookie had great taste! One of Stevie's early classics.
Sure glad we still have some of these great clips and complete shows in the archives. They don't make 'em like Soupy anymore. Rest in Peace. I'm gonna miss ya, but have great memories of "Lunch with Soupy".
Soupy had the perfect costume. That sweater and bow tie!
Watched this everyday at lunch time in Redford, MI on WXYZ.
I was watching in NYC.

Anyone remember when Soupy sang"Pafalafaka" (sp)? What a great song! I'd love to hear it again!!!
AAN
I have the original 45 with "the mouse" on side "A" and "Pafalafica" on side "B"
It was made by Paramount records

Love love this show. a classic.
This guy had Soul and so did the Pookie and fang. Forever the BEST.
This and all the other shows were and are great. I wish my kids and grand kids could have seen these showsin their entirety.

Joe Messina, who was part of the Legendary Motown's Funk Brothers session band, started on The Soupy Sales Show as a house band member.
Soupy Sales, Zacherley, such fun t.v.. Very odd as afternoon kid's show now that I've seen these again, but I still see this as nostalgic!!
Soupy was unknown in Britain so I only became aware of him through TH-cam. And I'm glad I did. One hell of a funny guy!

Soupy was AWESOME! 🤗❤️❤️❤️
kie was the best and knew his music

BEST SHOW on tv when I was in h.s.
Somewhere in the attic-I have a 33LP called "Pie in the Sky". I think it was the soundtrack from a Soupy Sales movie. Anyone out there remember this?
RIP, Milton Supman!
This was a wonderful children's show, but my late mother used to howl at Pookie's antics!
Folks, that Stevie Wonder singing High Heel Sneakers way back in 1965!
The Pookster rules!
Man, that little lion sock-puppet could really play some mean blues harp!
THAT IS EARLY STEVE WONDER, you can tell by that little high note harp thing he does occasionally, together with his "ha-ha, ye-ah", which is a signature Steve sound.
who's knocking them. I love it!!!
that version of "high heel sneakers" is from my main man, Pinetop Perkins......"Class dismissed!".....the duke

My father got such a kick out of Soupy Sales show.. I can see why!
Do you mean "Spy with a Pie?" It had a great photo of Soupy in a spy trenchcoat with Pookie at his side. We had it too! Can't find it though.
Is he singing to Little Stevie Wonder? I didn't realize as a 12 year old how hip the music on Soupy's show was!
AGREED-where else could you see a sock puppet lion scat singing Stevie Wonder while the "host" dances along??
That joke was funny and clever.

I thought he always wore a black turtle neck. I guess it's the monocle monopoly man phenomenon.
I kept waiting for Pookie turn around and do his little "booty dance." Do you guys remember that?

Hi ya Bubby!
Does anyone remember "Philo Kvetch"? Or "Onions Oregano" haha
Where's the biggest and meanest dog in all Detroit?
The soup loved Stevie Wonder 😊
The original Pookie in Detroit didn't talk. Just whistled. That was better for some reason.
I'm pretty sure you could get away with that, yea.
Hi Folks, Who do I hear? That's 'Little' Steavie Wonder, eh? I love the Soup. Check out Cifford Brown video on TH-cam. Jay
