Love this!! I’m a Navy vet my husband is a retired Marine. When we travel I drive the motorhome and he chases me in the car. I’m the navigator but he is excellent at “making a hole” when I need to change lanes both important jobs. He lovingly calls me the “Nagigator” so I tease him about the little sailor girl always has to tell the big tuff marine where to go. 😂 Teamwork makes the dream work.

We have a travel trailer so we cannot speak to a motor home and toad traveling separately. However, to quote Top Gun: "Don't Ever Leave Your Wingman". We would keep each other in sight so as to make the mistakes together...

I can't even believe I'm going to say this, BUT until you pointed out the big billboard with the campground name on it, I didn't see it. Its coloring is similar to the vegetation around it. So...I kinda get how Phil missed it. I enjoy the channel and have been a subscriber for a long time.

Many years ago I was a Program Manager for heavy maintenance at Dee Howard Aviation and managed some work on a Shuttle Carrier. If I remember correctly we were doing some aging aircraft SB's but I do vividly remember talking to the crew that flew the aircraft and it was a fantastic conversation about the flight characteristics with and without the Shuttle on board. Basically it flew the same but no big surprise that the throttles were much more forward with the Shuttle on board. Everyone should visit that museum. What a great aircraft.

Military convoy, never lose sight of the other vehicle. You should always be able to see the other person. Also giving driving instructions could be touched up on. Stacy did give two different instructions about how many stop signs there were. First she stated there was one and then later changed it to two. This can be confusing especially when someone is already getting frustrated.

Phil & Staci, real simple. Why did Phil not just follow Staci? The lead car does NOT get out of site from the following vehicle. Lead vehicle owns this. A lead car normally slows or stops until the following vehicle catches up.

When in the Houston area you should purchase Houston City Passes. They have them for adults and kids. You get to pick 5 attractions for one price. After visiting the first attraction you have so many days to use the passes. It is the cheapest way to sight-see. Many cities have the City Passes.

Little things are just not worth the energy and just cause issues then and in the future. Not worth getting upset over spilt milk as they say.

What I do to get the exact route and not miss an entrance is to use Garmin's BaseCamp software on my laptop to build my route on the laptop using waypoints at key locations. Then I upload the trip to the GPS. With waypoints the GPS will tell me the exact spot that I have reached my waypoint. I normally do this just before the entrance so I don't overshoot it. Works great on long roads with no signs or row of palm trees to mark an entrance.

So the problem DH and I have is DH doesn't know left from right or even driver side and passenger side. To keep myself from getting totally frustrated by him not understanding those things when I say them, I just let him figure it out for himself.
I know that sounds mean, but the frustration level for both of us is much lower doing it that way.

Whenever we decide not to hitch our Ram 1500 to our 40 ft DP and travel separately, I lead.
I am in the truck with the Garmin RV with our RV spec. I attach our phone to CarPlay and call my husband in the RV. He hears both me and the Garmin,
…and yes, we preview the trip before we leave
…but we still have had moments of quick thinking when a new road or bridge shows up.
Garmin RV appears to update every two years.

If you are not in the same vehicle, do not get separated! I only saw 'big orange sign' after stop sign. "You go thru 2 stop signs" is a little misleading. Maybe, "You turn at the 2nd stop sign" would have been better. The sign on the right says, yada yada. We have not traveled enough to separate the vehicles. And we are not real handy at getting toad hooked to Coach! ;)

A couple of years ago, we were heading to DC. One of our stops was Cooper Rock State Park in PA. We got off the Interstate and saw a sign saying Cooper Rock Office and an arrow pointing one way and a second sign saying Cooper Rock State Park with an arrow pointing the other direction. Well we figured we have to go to the office first, so we went in that direction. We went up a long incline driveway and found out that the office was the maintenance office. There was no place to turn around and cuz we were on an incline, we couldn't unhitch the toad. My wife had to steer the toad while I backed up the motorhome. What a pain that was! Using Google Maps for every stop now. Thanks Stacy.

Ok I have to come to Phil's aid... If I heard Stacy right, she said for Phil to go through two stop signs, which he did. Shouldn't he have been told to turn right at the second stop sign? We try to review the driving directions together even though we have the RV data in the Garmin and Waze running on another device. You both got there safely and that's the most important. On another note, we live and worked in the Central Florida area. On my way into work one morning, there was this 747 flying really low - and OMG there was a Space Shuttle on it!! Unfortunately, it was before the days of cell phone cameras so I don't have a photo to share but it was SOOO cool to see that!!

We always ride together with our 5th wheel or in our truck camper; no toad vehicle. With today's road conditions and traffic it takes four eyes, four ears, and two mouths to navigate safely. Usually we both get familiar with the route, but the passenger becomes the navigator reminder for exits, turns, etc. Teamwork. From "The Frisco Kid" - keep your eyes right here on the horses' rump!

In our 43ft Dutch Star (towing an Expedition), I am the driver and navigator. I use the Garmin GPS as primary navigation and compare it against Google Maps on ApplePlay - both have been known to incorrect. But all our trips or repositioning is reviewed and double checked the day prior, and then discussed casually to ensure we hit highlights or skip things in which we have no interest. My wife has too many other responsibilities and does not need yet another thing like navigation on her plate. And it helps that I'm a pilot...

For many years, we have Vacationed at a few campgrounds, normally Provincial Parks. Therefore, we rarely need to worry to much about getting lost as we have been there multiple times. Sometimes staying in the exact same site!
This summer we start the adventure of travelling greater distances and to new places. Our plan is to circumnavigate Lake Huron (we live in Ontario).
Only two of the parks have we visited before, so your video is timely about making sure we both know where we are going. One of the parks in Michigan I (not my wife) stayed at when I was 10 years old.
I plan our trips and my wife will navigate when necessary. She is a good map reader. Yes, we still often use Official Paper Maps! I will make sure she know where we are going and how to get there. I like your use of Google Maps to show you the turns into a campground. We will use that method.
We were coming home from Myrtle Beach (without Trailer) and the Paper Map was more accurate than the GPS. A new Highway had opened and I had not updated my GPS before leaving home.
The GPS got very confused as we drove through fields. LOL.

We do not get lost we take the scenic route. In San Francisco, we had to cross 7 lanes in 1/4 mile or less , Couldn't do it so we went around a few times to get all the way across . That was a car not an rv so your rig would never have made it.

Phil, I think she may have been right on the directions. But I understand how you may have been confused, one time we we’re going to northwest Georgia and Google took us through a residential neighborhood very narrow road for a 42’ class A and the others with us were in 45’ fifth wheels.

LOL so glad we aren't the only ones who do this. We get lost sometimes too. We've only driven separately once when it was under an hour to get to the next stop. We used our walkies to communicate when we needed to. I ran RV Trip Wizard GPS in the car while I set the hubs up with the Garmin but something ALWAYS happens right?!

We use our phones. However, I will drive the car if it is a short drive 1 hr an under, unless I’m not feeling well. Because I hook it up an do all of that so it just depends!

I Phil ya, I have a total love hate relationship with my GPS.. As soon as it says turn I look at the Map and see a road almost immediately and turn then realize I should have turned at the next road that is 1/2 a block away. As soon as I decide not to turn immediately I drive past the one I needed. And last year our Garmin took us to Hot springs AK and for some reason decided to take us to the campground by routing us past the lookout tower first. If you have been there you will know the road up to the lookout tower has cars parked on both sides and is very narrow for the last 4-5 blocks before the turn to the tower which is one way and you don't see the max 30" sign until you are too far around the turn to back up. We obviously were able to navigate the road but the pucker factor was ant max until finished the loop. The next day I bought a Lenovo android tablet and we now run RVLife GPS and Garmin side by side.

No toad for us, so every travel day is a full hookup day for us! 😂 Yes, with two, being on the same page is crucial. BTW, we really appreciate that you put your mistakes out here on TH-cam. It’s not all sunshine, lollipops and rainbows.

We stayed there a month ago. I can understand the confusion. We arrived at dark (big mistake). That highway construction was difficult to deal with and then the road/ramp before you turn off to go to the campground was confusing. Somehow we missed all of that construction on our way out of town. Did you see the parakeets?

It really is a mess with construction. We have not seen the parakeets yet.

We just went full time the end of November '23. So far we have traveled 3,480 miles with 28 stops (campgrounds) but have never moved without flat towing the car. My wife has the Garmin RV1090 on her side of the RV and I have the Garmin RV890 on my side. She calls out the turns and I can see which lane I need to be in and exactly where to turn on the Garmin. Love the channel and I don't miss a video. Been watching since before we purchased our Class A over two and a half years ago. Care to tell me what campground it was at the beginning of your video with all of the buildings that were elevated? I'm working on adding the Seabrook area to our itinerary for our travels through TX next winter. TIA.

Hahaha.... seems the shorter the travel day the more problems. I'm also the navigator and my hubs will hook up our toad just so I can be in the rig navigating even if we're only going 2 miles! LOL (I'm exaggerating a little here 🙂 But not by much....

Just wondering where you stayed in Seabrook, TX? And, would you go back to that C.G. again? Thanks for the video. We've got plans to be in Houston in May, looking for a good place to stay. Hope the SWC has gluten free options also.

I prefer Google maps when traveling. What gets me in trouble though; is when it says "in 1000 yards, turn right". Unfortunately I can't always judge how far 1000 yards is and usually there are at least 2 right hand turns. 🥴🥴🥴. Which one do I need??? Usually it's the one that I just passed....
    Safe travels.

I have some friends who like the Jamaica Beach RV Resort and the whole Galveston Island area. We have been there several times.
I can relate On my move from the FMCA rally in Tucson to our AIM rally in Las Vegas. We spent a night in Wikieup AZ on 93 there are 3 RV parks side by side. GPS said we are there at the first one but it was the third one. Fortunateley I had room to pull in and turn around.
Have you done a AIM rally?
