When are using the pumps are so fast it's because our tanks are huge each tank can average between 50 gallons to over 100 gallons on each side. Most of the time when we pull up to the yellow line We tried to run in go to the bathroom and grabs a snack or something to eat coffee and get back out as fast as possible. Sometimes it takes a little longer because they might be aligned cash register.
Totally agree! Im in Canada so his weather forecasts dont even concern me most of the time but when theres crazy weather in the US I watch Ryan Hall Y'all!!
As a truck driver I thank you for the respect you show to us. The general rule of thumb on the yellow line at the pumps is the fact it is not a parking spot, pull up run in use the toilet get a bite to eat and leave. It normally takes around 15 minutes to fuel a truck so I try to keep it around or under 15 minutes to be considerate to others
As someone who has lived in Texas for 14 years and a native midwesterner this year’s weather is not typical. This has been the most active storm season in many, many years.
18 former years in Minnesota, now Georgia, Alabama and Florida are our primary areas, especiallyfor RVING. YOU'RE CORRECT, it's been very UNPREDICTABLE CONDITIONS everywhere recently. Safe Travels to You and Yours ALWAYS from "Harm's Hand". SHALOM (PEACE AND FREEDOM).
Our daughter and 2 of our granddaughters live in Texas. One of them is a Paramedic. She was transporting a patient to the hospital and got locked in when the Tornado hit. Her husband was home with her 2 year old and 6 month old, they watched a roof blow across their backyard and her husband hearded them all into the bathroom where they hopped into the tub with pillows to be safe. Luckily all they lost was their big, beautiful tree in their front yard. Glad you guys are safe!
The length of time "at the line" varies by how busy the fuel lanes are. Fifteen minutes is the MAXIMUM when someone is behind you, but try to limit it to ten minutes. (Trucker 11 years and counting.)
I'm a retired mechanic. Try not to let your fuel tank rum below 1/4 level. The injectors on diesel and gas engines use the excess fuel that doesn't get injected into the cylinder, it helps keep the injectors cooler. On extremely hot days it might even be good to fuel up a little more often. If you touch you fuel tank after driving a few hour the tank will be very hot. Keep on trucking..... Very much enjoy you humor and travels.... Since you are travel nurses, might be interesting to show an basic first aid class. Maybe how to set up a basic first aid bag to a trauma bag. In the past I have given them a Christmas gifts, and family reunion prizes.
MANY YEARS AGO I LET MY GAS TANK RUN EMPTY BEFORE I SWITCHED OVER TO THE SADDLE TANK (96 F150 TWIN 15 GAL TANKS) AND THE FUEL PUMP SUCKED UP SEDIMENT AND CRUD FROM THE BOTTOM. TRUCK RAN LIKE SHIT FOR FEW HOURS TILL THE LINE CLEARED.
My husband is a truck driver and he says 10 mins is a good time frame on that line! We appreciate that you are considerate of the truckers and how hard they work! And for not taking up space and time in the fuel islands or taking parking spaces for a lengthy time! You guys rock! We love you❤
We were camped at Woolly Hollow State Park in Greenbrier Arkansas last week and a tornado went right over the park. The park ranger came through the park with blue lights on over the PA speaker informing the campers to get to the bath house. The tornado dissipated just as it reached the park then reformed after it went over.
Several years back we were in an exact situation in Alabama. At a State Park between two Bluffs. The Rangers came, full lights and Loud Speakers on "TORNADO! Shelter IMMEDIATELY!". It was out-of-the-blue, everyone was blindsided since the TORNADO dropped down suddenly from low hanging clouds. Fortunately it jumped right over us moving from Bluff to Bluff! Had we not been in a low laying area we would have been in a DIRECT HIT. We still remember it and always keep an 👁 eye level view of what the clouds are doing. Glad you made it safely through your experience too! Safe Travels to You and Yours Always. SHALOM (PEACE AND FREEDOM).
As a truck driver I go with 10-15 min rule. That gives you time to use the restroom and get food and drink. Most big trucks are getting between 130-160 gallon of fuel plus def.
As a truck driver I appreciate your respect for truck drivers. As far as sitting at the line you’re right, it’s to run in, use the restroom and grab your fuel receipt. However many drivers do their mandatory 30 minute break at the line. There is really no excuse for it, makes the wait to fuel sometimes close to an hour.
Glad you guys made it safely 🙏. We learned quickly to watch the Big Rigs when bad weather approaches... if they get off the roadways in numbers... we do too! Period. We travel mostly between GEORGIA, ALABAMA, and FLORIDA. Occasionally to MINNESOTA and WISCONSIN. We always keep a Powerful CB for listening to what the Big Rigs are doing during any hazardous conditions... they know their own roadways extremely well and know hiding holes if weather gets really ugly! And their own company Dispatchers help to route them away from hazardous conditions too. More than once, they've been our best ❤ Road Angels 😇 ❤.
Hi, Kyle and Renee this is Jermey McGuire hurricane beryl hit Matagorda, Texas early this morning. In Santa Fe, Galveston County where I use to live. The entire town lost power I didn’t get no bad weather from hurricane beryl down here in Alice Oak County near Lake Corpus Christi, on the other hand I’ll be getting thunderstorms tomorrow through Saturday. I hope it rains I was let out!! BTW I’m new to your channel I subscribed and turned on notifications!!
Thanks to the Hanks, I learned of, and was watching, Ryan Hall Y'All during that same storm as we were camped in Northwestern Kentucky. On Tuesday, the severe weather went just north of us, and on Wednesday, it went just south of us. Don't know how we got so lucky, but that channel definitely helped us stay calm and make good decisions. All your hard work putting out content each week continues to be so valuable to the RV community - thank you!
Enjoy life while you can and stay young and healthy the both of you hope to get back on the road again. The old gear head I'm 68 and still have dreams even though I move slower lol.
All I can say about tornados is if you see the sky low and turning keep your shoes on. If the storm goes from bad to quiet I mean eerily quiet and still that's a good sign you'll probably hearing roaring soon seek shelter. When you pull up to a place to stay inquire if they have a severe weather plan. It'll help you decide where to seek shelter and if to seek shelter. If you plan on traveling it wouldn't hurt to invest in a weather radio and a puzzle mat.
Good luck with the tornado thing...because as you come into Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana & Ohio your heading into Dixie Alley another alley for tornados
As a former trucker and someone who hauls horses with a 55' rig, that pull forward yellow line is so that you can run in, get your receipt, snack and/or use the bath room quickly. Anything more than that, park the rig and take all the time you want.
idea for puzzles while travelling - get a poster board a few inches bigger then your puzzle - take a picture frame liner that goes around picture in a picture frame - tape it to your puzzleboard - tape your puzzle board to the table surface :
Been a long haul driver over twenty years, fifteen minutes is the eighteen wheel rule but some are very inconsiderate. Watch ya every week 😊 Twister Collins
As an RVing truck driver. Truckers don't mind an RV being at the truck stop pumps. And thanks for resizing that yes, we do have to get back on the road quick. So thanks for being respectful to that. 😊
I love how recognizable you are when arriving or leaving. Did you see the folks who were waving goodbye on your way out. I hope one to see you on the road. Stay safe with all the crazy weather!!!
Oh my goodness, we felt SO bad. I didn't realize they were waving until I was editing the video and saw them in the background. We hope for this as well! Stay safe 😊
You guys get along so well and the laid back nature of both of you is not only enviable but very enjoyable to watch. I only wish I was half as calm as you guys appear to be as we need more people like you guys in this world. When that trucker swerved I would have said we have an idiot driver but Kyle gave the guy the benefit of doubt. That takes a special person to do that. Thanks guys for being who you are and thanks for sharing your adventures with us.
You both did the right thing by getting away from the bad weather. It sucks to give up a nights stay. I am glad youire ok. We like you a lot. God Bless.
You were at the rest stop east of Monroe, LA where I broke down with a missing tire and broken leaf springs on my 5th wheel. Thank you I-20 in LA, the worst road in the nation! Safe travels and have a great Rally! Rick N.
I love it! I'll definitely look into getting one. Any idea on what is considered too "hot" when it comes to checking the brakes? We appreciate your support!
Basically you are looking for one or more tires that are considerably higher than others. Pressure, road type, outside air temp all affect tires temperature, but you would be looking for a higher tire temp over others. Btw, you should be using that temp gun with your Blackstone as well :-)
Love how you both work so well together, or is that just great editing? I really think you both do really work good together. Love seeing your videos come out. Be safe.
We have the Open Roads card also. We fuel up and then find a spot to park. Then we would take care of stretching our legs, walking the dog, eating, and anything else. We didn't even go inside the truck stop. Oh yeah, I have a 1999 Ford superduty with the 7.3L turbo diesel, the first time we used the truck lanes was when we figured out that we had the smaller diesel filler tube. Filling the truck was a real pain in the but. We got the filler tube changed to the bigger one as soon as we could.
We stayed at Quilly's in Vicksburg, MS in April. Loved the manager and how clean bathrooms and laundry room was. We were on a spring break trip with teen boys, so visited the Civil War battlefield.
Thank you! I usually have always made it quick, to wash the windshield or check oil. Any longer, and I pull over to the side, making sure I leave room for everyone to get by.
I’m a truck driver. Depends on how busy the truck stop is. If it’s really busy bathroom and leave. A lot empty pumps or 3 am you and nobody is around take as long as you need.
We live in the thick of where the storm hit. We rode it out under our basement steps as multiple tornadoes hit our area. Thankfully, no one received significant injuries. Be careful out there. Things are replaceable, you are not.
I am a Louisiana resident and been all my 56 years. If y'all came through Shreveport then y'all were about 65 miles north of me. I live in Sabine parish and we have been having storms the last couple of days, so good that you kept going but if ever you this way and need a place to stay reaxh out to me. Stay safe
Thanks for the kind words about us truck drivers. We don’t get it often. My rule is 5 minutes at the line if I go inside. Sometimes I’ll sit in the truck until I notice the person behind me is hanging the fuel nozzles up. Then I know it’s time to leave.
I've been through three Tornadoes, countless severe T'storms. I'm a Retired Deputy, it was part of the job to patrol and observe the area's that the NWS & NOAA gave as the highest possibilities of severe storms and tornadoes. I have had my patrol car slide sideways during one, a interstate road sign fold in half 10 feet from my car. You know you're in for a fun night when a NOAA portable Doppler Radar truck pulls up along side you. I enjoy storms though, whether it's severe T'storms, tornadoes, especially blizzards............it's life in the upper Midwest! By the way, get a infrared heat laser thermometer to check wheel temps.............$15-$30.00 on the big A
So when we travel with a puzzle we use Saran wrap and wrap it over the top and under the table. This keeps it from moving or bouncing around. When we get to our location we just get the scissors out and cut it. All good. Keep the puzzle fun going.
Stay at the yellow line 15 min max or less. Also Carl if you pull up just far enough for the diesel to reach back to your tank you will be able to fill your def at the pump too. The deff is on a reel and can reach across your truck to your def tank on the passenger side under the hood.🤠 safe travels you two!
Thank you for all your videos about leaving on the road. Planning to start our full-time rving in a year. Today owning 19th foot traveler trailer and occasionally getting it out to the road. Your videos are very encouraging and helpful. At this stage planning to buy a truck. Any chance you have a video about your track? What kind of track do you own?
We really appreciate your generosity! Thank you for your wonderful support 😊 Congrats on your upcoming start to full time RV living. We do have a video where we touch on the purchase of an old truck (regret) and our current truck. I'll leave it linked here - th-cam.com/video/pDMEvt-KfJk/w-d-xo.html
@@HappilyEverHanks thank you for your prompt reply. From the video I learned D is 2019 GMC 2500 HD. Any chance you might share exact details? E.g. Bed length, suspension etc?
Love your channel & humour but just wish it was longer. I’m 72 & do all the RV driving with my 37’ Jayco 5th wheel & dually (I retired my 44’ toyhauler lol) but hubby doesn’t really like leaving the horse farm to travel😢. So watching you young uns’ is my travel too. We live in Canada just 2 hours north of Buffalo & got the Tornado warnings too. Very scary but we have a 150 year old brick house with a cement basement to hide in. Stay safe & keep RVing with me shadowing along❤
Thanks Hanks for your truckstop educate. 20yrs trucker, long time subscriber, '25 GD 337RLS owner. It's probably better if you just pull off the fuel island and park (pull-thru) Less anxiety to be rushed to move. If you're ever in the Princeton, Tx area, we're at Vista Rv Community. FM982
I have a job where I drive a 39' Diesel pusher. I carry a lazer temp gun in my tool kit to check tires and hubs for high temps. They are not expensive and can take the guess work out of whether you have a brake or bad bearing over heating your wheels and tires. Also works great to see if A/C is putting out cold/heat in all vents.
We live in western NY we were at Allegany State Park when the rangers were going to each site warning people about an potential incoming rain/ wind storm. We have really never ran into that before but due to the fact that there is really no cell service there may be part of that. We have gone 10 days before no power no cell but awesome waterfront site, the generator tops off our batteries when needed and it was really refreshing to totally disconnect. We explained to family where we were in case of emergency the rangers can come relay a message.
I was watching that guy's you tube last week with the bad weather through IL. Well, I was at home. I just thought he was cool. We have been getting a lot of high winds the past month. The park I work at had a tree come down in one campground that just missed a camper parked there. Then I found out later in the weekend a limb came down and hit a lady who had to cover her baby to protect him. That tree and a few others came down yesterday. The park super and his team took them down. Lots of work. Stay safe out there people!
Rene, don't blame yourself for the puzzle. I20 from Shreveport to Monroe is the worst HWY I've ever driven on. Many, many, many years ago, LOL. I worked in the oilfield. I drove an 18 wheeler. Cab over. That road would beat me senseless. Love your channel. Someday my Wife and I would love to go to one of your meetups. God Bless you both for your channel and for being Nurses.
Not a trucker, we're just bumper pulling, but I've seen a fight almost break out because a few truckers left there rigs up there for over 20 mins. There were PA announcements, lots of shouting, etc. We were like three back in line and only caught the tail end of it. Yeah so, we just try to keep it to less than the time we took to fill up as a general rule.
With drum brakes, 140°-160° after a stop. At 200°, your brakes would begin to fade. 600° will damage your brake components If you could stop at all Disc brakes can run up to 1600°. NASCAR Rotors can glow cherry red on a short track and still stop the car.
That happens. I kept changing directions for Florence... Ended up in KY, then headed north and finally ended up in Florence IN when it was there... And then on the way back South, had to deal with Michael! Crazy year
As a retired truck driver the time you spend on a few island after you, Fuel is no more than enough time to use the restroom and maybe grab a cuppa coffee. Do not hold anybody up behind you because everybody has electronic logbook now.
Without fail we run into severe weather whenever we travel. Several legit tornado warnings and microburst. It's not enjoyable but when you live in the east and want to travel west it's hard to avoid. Safe travels!
I'm a full-time RV'r and have been through the south a few times now and I absolutely love the place. Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana are some of my very favorite places. Forget politics and embrace the people. I stayed at a park next to the talladega race track for 4 days when I was just passing through and was only going to stay 1 night because the owners were just so nice. I stayed at a harvest host golf course in Mississippi just outside of Memphis and they let me take my dog out on the course with me. That's pretty common in the UK, but unheard of in the US. The whole gulf coast, (Floribama, redneck riviera) is just wonderful. There are 12 Waffle houses on the coast road between Biloxi, MS and NOLA just in case you want to count them like I did. Go there. Be surprised. Have fun.
15 minutes on the yellow line is the trucker rule. However, there's some rude ones out there. Taking their 30 minute Dot break, showering... Etc.. I always try to keep it to 10 minutes at most. Receipt, bathroom and leave. Thank you for your inspirational videos. You made me quit trucking after 10 years. I'm currently a school bus driver so I can be off for the summer and RV travel with my kids for the summer 🏝️. Maybe we'll run into you guys in pigeon forge!
About your puzzle, we used to take about a yard of green felt or any color felt and put our puzzle on that. Then, when we were done putting it together or got tired of working on it, we would roll it around an empty wrapping paper tube. You kinda wanna make sure that the tube is fat enough, so you don't bend the puzzle pieces. I mean, you don't want to do it too tight. Just snug enough to keep it secure. put a rubber band on the ends and in the middle. That should keep it from coming apart, and it would hold it in place until you're ready to start working on it again. You could probably use a PVC. Pipe, too.
We were in Oklahoma in early April when a forecast of a tornado warning and SOFTBALL sized hail was coming in. We finally decided to get the heck out of Dodge (or in this case, Norman) and drove east to Arkansas to get away from the storm. You have wheels...use them.
Thank you Hanks for the Bushwacker idea!! Mmmmmmm good! We’re on the waiting list for this June 2024 get together but I hope we’ll eventually get to see you! Have a great time all!
My husband Justin is a truck driver. He says 10/15 minutes. That he doesn’t want to take up anyone’s time. Nor does he want people taking up his. He says some just stay in the truck stop!
I’m a truck driver for old dominion and there really isn’t any set rule on the line but out of self respect quick in the store maybe restroom break or snacks is good enough so roughly about 10 minutes just my opinion though keep it real Hanks love the content and hope to see you guys out there sometime
Interesting how I am viewing this Jun 3, Sunday, and you showed Ryan Hall, viewing him on April 17th... now I know the difference in time between videoing and publishing.... yes, this year has been one BIG CRAZY weather event..... stay safe...
Just an FYI. I tried to sign up for Open Roads card and they informed me that they only allow businesses to apply now. Thanks for all the Happily Ever Hanks content.
Y'all should check out Wehle Conservation in Headland Alabama. It's free hookups for water and power and in the spring and fall they are open Fri-Sun. Lots of sites and most folks are there with their horses camping so it's really peaceful.
We stay on the yellow line just long enough to run inside, hit the bathroom, grab a snack, and get back to the truck. Usually you should spend no longer than it takes the normal truck driver to fill up and clean his windows. 🐾🐾
LOVE LOVES! There are double slots that are not near the pumps or truckers overnight spaces where I overnight. Food, drinks, gas, propane, dump station. I dont drink or cook with the fresh tank water so I fill from the hose by the pumps. Buy purified water either at Lowe's or Dollar General. Today I found a vet for my laundry pod chomping brand new mama kitty (two day old babies!) was a Dollar General Market next door. Amazing place. Fresh meat and produce. And like every other DG from Arizona to Maine was sold out of spice drops!
As a trucker for 28 years, I greatly appreciate y'all's respect for truckers. It means a lot. Y'all be safe. Hope to run into y'all one day.
Truckers are the best drivers on the road. They are Pros. Only a few are not. The safest place is to stay back from behind a trucker You will be safe.
We are the same at truck stops. We know you guys are on a tight and quick schedule so we are always in and out as fast as possible.
Another great video. I'm glad yall found a safe place to stay and I'm looking forward to seeing the next place.
Truckers make our lives possible. I respect them and the hard job they have.

Kyle get a temperature gun and check the temps often when you stop.
your tire press monitor will give a good indication of a hanging brake. tire temp gets higher.
Worth the $25 bucks or so off Amazon. Especially if you're driving in the mountains over passes.
Yes, I use heat gun, I use to feel tb3 hubs.
Btw, you should be using that temp gun with your Blackstone as well :-)
I’m retired now but thanks for the respect for truckers. I would pull up to the yellow line to use restroom and usually get ice in my big cup
Ryan Hall Y’all whoop whoop!
We stayed at Quilly's in Vicksburg, MS in April. Loved the manager and how clean bathrooms and laundry room was. We were on a spring break trip with teen boys, so visited the Civil War battlefield.
16 year veteran long haul truck driver. Unspoken rule is about 15 minutes at the pull up line.
Thank you! I usually have always made it quick, to wash the windshield or check oil. Any longer, and I pull over to the side, making sure I leave room for everyone to get by.
Thank you very much for your response! It helps to here it right from the source 😃
Thank you for answering. We have often wondered ourselves.
RadarX will give you great weather info. As our rv navigator, I am also the weather gal. ☺️
I’m a truck driver. Depends on how busy the truck stop is. If it’s really busy bathroom and leave. A lot empty pumps or 3 am you and nobody is around take as long as you need.
As a trucker hauling new RV's to dealerships all over the country, I listen to Ryan Hall y'all as well. Great channel.
We live in the thick of where the storm hit. We rode it out under our basement steps as multiple tornadoes hit our area. Thankfully, no one received significant injuries. Be careful out there. Things are replaceable, you are not.
I talk about tornados
Good call! Do you like to save the saran wrap for the next time or are ya'll using some fresh wraps every time? 😀
@@HappilyEverHanks I must admit sometimes we reuse it and just add some painters tape. I’ve been called cheap every now and then. lol 😂
@@Bunkysworkshop I would do the same! :)
Thank you for sharing a little of what it has been like being out thereon the road in the midst of the bad weather threats!
Just love watching you two. Besides being entertaining you always have such good information. Happy travels and hope you keep out of the storms.
Thank you very much, Marilyn! This makes our day ❤️
Nice choice on choosing ryan hall yall as your weatherman. He is great!
FM982
What?! A Cliff-Hanger?! Great episode. Can't wait for the next one.
I love Chester’s chicken! In my book, that and Lee’s Chicken are my favorites, then Popeye’s! Great video!
I WATCH RYAN HALL Y’ALL!!! I DID NOT KNOW YOU DID TO! 😮😮😮😮
Thanks Hanks for showing the weather issues facing RVers and thinking how to avoid the severe weather
I will pray for your safety 🙏🏽
600° will damage your brake components If you could stop at all
Disc brakes can run up to 1600°. NASCAR Rotors can glow cherry red on a short track and still stop the car.
I love and trust Ryan Hall Y'all and his crew. They are the best meteorology team. Glad to know you guys rely on him too! safe travels.
I LOVE ❤️ that y’all squad was on your radio! It’s all I listen to during storms!
Nana, I talk through my driving out loud to my dog, especially when I'm backing our rig into the driveway. ☺️
Have fun.
I see that the “Hanks” spent the night in Vicksburg, MS. You were not far from where I live! Welcome!
Another great video. Thanks Hanks...... Chester's Chicken is very good. I've only seen it available at Love's ........ Safe travels Y'all ......
Pipe, too.
Waiting to see the next park....See you next week I'll have popcorn and a drink.
😮 love's bathrooms and showers are spotless!!!
Have a great time all!
great to see you two. stay safe
Great to hear from you! Thank you so much
Yes that weather has gone crazy
Thank you so much for sharing your adventure. There have been a lot of storms. Stay safe.
👋🙂, wow. You guys have really gotten good at editing. Love it. Good work.
There is a great puzzle board that zips up to keep your puzzle safe and intact while travelling. I have an RV van and it works amazing!
Love Chester’s Chicken 😋
I was an OTR Driver for 30 years. I’ve seen drivers pull up to the line , go in get a shower and then go park ? Imagine that ?
My husband Justin is a truck driver. He says 10/15 minutes. That he doesn’t want to take up anyone’s time. Nor does he want people taking up his. He says some just stay in the truck stop!
Love our Open Roads card and the DEF pump hose reaches!
I’m a truck driver for old dominion and there really isn’t any set rule on the line but out of self respect quick in the store maybe restroom break or snacks is good enough so roughly about 10 minutes just my opinion though keep it real Hanks love the content and hope to see you guys out there sometime
About 5 miles further east from Quigleys RV was a Cracker barrel, spent the night there 2 months ago.
Fun times. Thank you for the VOD. Safe travels.
Love traveling with the Hanks. ❤❤
You go girl doing all that driving and he got a break from driving enjoy it man glad to see that axle work held up.
We do too! There are some great amenities that they offer 😊 Thanks for watching!
All of this is great to know for us road trippers too. Thank you!
